The earlier, Rock N' Roll version, or the Experimental Beatles?

Experimental Beatles. Thats when they matured into artists. Early Beatles were like boy bands.

Somewhere between the two... not the lovey dovey stuff they did in the beginning and not the truly weird stuff they did near the end (Happiness is a Warm Gun :wow:) - Twist & Shout era is the one for me.

I agree with Red Marvel. Some of their best songs were in 67-68 plus get back was a tribute to their rock n roll roots.

I like Rubber Soul, Revolver, and Sgt. Pepper. That's my era. I wouldn't call it the true experimental era like The White Album, but it wasn't the early period. I'm also a pretty big fan of Abbey Road, but that wasn't all that experimental either. For me, The Beatles can be divided into 3 distinct eras.:

The Pop Beatles: Please Please Me - Help
The Psychedellic Beatles: Rubber Soul - Magical Mystery Tour
The Experimental Beatles: The White Album - Let it Be

The mid one is my favorite.

They had some good stuff in their early days, but the studio albums are when they started making great stuff.

i like the Beatles before they got that lame-o imposter to replace Paul.

The one's that played instruments and sang and ****.

I like the Rock n Roll Beatles more than the experimental Beatles

I like the early Beatles....

....but the later Beatles are much cooler. Most of my favourite tracks come from this period. And the fact that they stopped wearing exactly the same suits and haircuts helps a lot, lol.

i prefer the later years....but i dont think those years were any less rock and roll than the earlier years. they were merely redefining what rock and roll can be....rather than continuing to pander to mainstream pop that they made their career on. but, the early years were fantastic as well, dont get me wrong.

I like both. I'm going to have to go with the latter. Their maturation really started in Rubber Soul.
They could easily be divided up into more categories but this is a good topic.

And I agree with Motown Marvel. They weren't any less Rock and Roll they just redefined it. Prog rock, obviously psycadellic rock and even metal can be traced to The Beatles.
