I would say the 60s because of its infulece. I mean bands like The Beatles, The Doors, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Rolling Stone and so much more. Hard to top those.

I would say the 90s comes close, but the latter part after Cobain died ony had a few shining moments.

the 50s and 80s for me.
50s for real rock and roll.
80s mostly for the birth of hardcore.

This thread would be awesome with a poll :o

And I say the 60's!

80s, no doubt.
I am working on my 80s collection right now for my Zune.
90s were ok.

00s

or whenever disco came along

i love my funky house so i love my early 00 tracks.

then again i love my 90s r n b.

it all depends on the genre of music you are into.

Quoted from another thread:

I look at the first 20 years of rock and roll (thoguh not just limited to that genre), from 1955 to 1975, the longest and most consistent era for popular music as a whole in history. The bredth of quality recrodings we had from that period is astounding.

Also the 1990s' sucked. There were some isolated moments of sheer greatness in the early 1990s'. After Cobain died, we were met with an endless stream of blandness that has only intensified in the 21st Century.

The 2000s', however, have been the most culturally uninspiring decade since The Dark Ages.

I mostly listen to rap so I have to say the 90's....36 chambers, the chronic, doggystyle, ATLiens,Me against the world..Too many classic albums to name. The music from the late 40's early 50's is arguably the most influential music ever.

1930's. Harlem Renassiance. A lot of new ideas sprung up not only from black artists, but artists all over the world.

60s and 70s by far.

Things started to get good in the 50s, peaked in the 60s and 70s, the 80s were terrible, and music has been trying to recover ever since. 90s were okay, 00s are good outside of the mainstream.

60's-80's

Today while I respect they'e music, there's no talent in hip-hop.

Think of playing a guitar or voicing a rap song. People are going to saw wow to the person playing to the guitar. Because that takes actualy talent.

And don't give me a bullcrap answer about rap, "Oh, well tey have to rhyme and write the songs!"

Oh please, I wrote a damn poem in seventh grade and most likely they don't write the songs.

to say there's no talent in hip hop is as naiive as saying there's no talent in heavy metal or dance music, or opera, techno, happy hardcore or any other genre of music.

guitar playing can be a very simplified thing with just one single repetitive chord being played through a track. It all depends on the artist. A legendary guitar rift is just as memorable to some as a legendary verse of rapping in another.

swings and roundabouts but let's not go off the thread topic.

I must say, I'm partial to the 80's. I was too young a lad to appreciate it then, but I have an extensive collection of hits from back then in my library now. Fun times.

Non mainstream was great in the 80s.

Its between the 60's and 90's. The 00's have just been awful

easily the 60's. without a doubt. but as said above, 55 to 75 was some serious golden years. the music produced in those 20 years are mind blowing, and nothing else can compare.

Definitely '60s and '70s. '60s gave us The Doors and The Beatles, and the '70s gave us Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd (which was around in the late '60s too), and Yes. The '80s and early '90s weren't bad, I guess...some pretty good metal and grunge happened around then.

Why does music today suck so much? :/

I'll let you in on a secret...music of today doesn't suck. It's just as good as the music from other eras...the problem is that a lot of the music that we're forced to listen to sucks. There were people in the 70s that were all into the funk/rock thing and they despised disco as we despise the stuff that's played on the radio now. There was an article in the Sun-Times from a teacher who printed some old letters from his students talking about how disco sucks and how they would rather hear KISS, etc. dated from like Chicago schools in 1974 or some **** like that.
