Who has better developed characters: DC or Marvel?

Marvel. By a way the heck looooooooong shot.

Characterization is, like, Marvel's schtick.

This thread is stupid. They both do. And anybody that says differently is a racist.

Let me ask you something, what does Spider-Man like to do in his spare time?

Pete likes to socialize with friends, do something science-y, or eat wheatcakes. Duh.

And if you mean "What dose Peter as Spider-Man do in his spare time," then I'd say that ditches the webs and tries to live a normal life, because unlike a lot of DC hereos, the costume isn't the real character. It's the face behind the mask.

What do you think he does? Drink himself silly?

See, you don't know what you're talking about. Your opinion is automatically biased, because if you read a bit more from other characters, you'd know that DC characters are the same way.

Batman collects first edition books and hangs out on armature detective message boards.
Superman loves Beef Bourgeois with Ketchup.
Hal Jordon is terrible with money and is always bumming cash off of people.
Guy Gardner owns a bar.
Jack Knight is an antiques collector.
Hell, freaking Copperhead, collected transistor radios.

Not well developed? wtf are you talking about? Can you say the same for Doc Ock? What does the Sentry like to do besides be crazy? Do you know how many stories have been done on Supes, Bats, WW, in efforts to explore their psyche? Your opinion doesn't count until you've proven you actually know what you're talking about. :p

Anub-owned. :o

It amazes me how this myth of DC's characters being nothing more than shallow imitations of real human beings outside of their costumes has persisted for so long.

I gave DC heroes a try, and the characters just seemed...hollow. Except for Batman, who at least to me seemed to have more driving force behind him...vulnerability, mabye. Oh, and "O Captain, My Captain!" is his favorite poem.

It's just my opinion...I'd probably feel different if I'd been introduced to DC before Marvel, or maybe I wouldn't. Partly, it's because I like the fact that Marvel attempts to keep its stories "grounded" or more bound in reality, whereas DC likes the "cosmic" themed, larger than life stories. All depends on your preference of storytelling.

I was just saying characterization was Marvel's thing that they themselves promote. Not that DC has no characterization. I'll openly admit that I read little DC other than Batman. I'm no expert on the subject.

BTW - Are you saying Doc Ock isn't well developed?? Ock's one of the better developed supervillains. Check out the "Doc Ock's Lair" thread and you'll see what I mean.

Which is also a bunch of bovine excrement. Jesus, do all of you zombie bastards read from the same book?

Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova, Manhunter, Detective Comics.

Besides, if you can't get into cosmic and fantasy stories, it shows a severe deficiency in your imagination anyway.

Haha, what does it mean if you can't get into grounded street stories? A deficiency in your grittiness?

I like DC characters better, but I must admitt Marvel does develope their characters a little more thoroughly.

Are you trying to tell me that Ock sucks balls?

What book are you reading?

I say Marvel attempts to be more problematic in their civilian lives, but both have equally developed characters.

All of spidey's villains suck, especially doctor fatass-old-lady-humper. Just because you love them so.

And that was the sound of Anubis' objectivity cred going out the window.

:whatever: :whatever: :whatever:

:oldrazz:

Never once have I claimed to be objective. I'm right and he's wrong.

Bang super-models. :word:

Personally, I don't think Peter really has any "spare" time... when he's not dealing with life's normal problems, he's on patrol... constantly, and then he goes home to sleep.

But claiming that Bruce Wayne is a better developped character because a writer decided to make him a book collector as a side note is not real development... and truth be told, Bruce Wayne is only the facade that the Batman uses when he's not busy being the Batman.

:yay:
