Comics Who here still buys spiderman comics

I'm definitly going to get it, and the other Stan Lee Meets...books. But FNSM looks to be a nice classic type of story, plus featuring the seeming return from the dead of the original
mysterio
Well duh! He was on the cover to the latest one! LOL I am going to get Stan Lee Meets Spiderman, Doctor Doom, Silver Surfer, and any others he meets that I like. I won't get all of them, I can't afford the Civil War as is!

I ONLY buy the essential or masterworks books. I read the other ones just to keep up and know what I'm talking about.
My problem with the don't buy boycott is that if sales of SM drop Joe Q and Marvel, will come up with even crazier and "stupider" schemes for the character.

They will use the low sales to say that SM is no longer popular, and that will put SM even further down in status.
he's been made into sidekick level now, if sales go any lower he won't even be that.

IMO, we need to communicate to marvel our displeasure and why we are no longer buying. We need to DEMAND that they respect the character and give him his proper dues.

I'm thinking a petition.
Oh and it's not just SM, many of the MU heroes are screwed up right now.

I like where your head's at, man, but you need to understand who we're dealng with here.

Read some of Joe Q's past interviews on Newsarama, (called "Joe Fridays") and tell meif you think it would matter to him. He simply says tha tthe book is selling and promises the fans that there are "exciting times" around the corner, and repeats that "message boards and the internet don't count".

Hell, he and JMS have both said that there is an "echo effect" on the internet, and that what looks like hundreds of people on message boards who hate an idea is really about 10 people under different screen names on different message boards. They ACTUALLY said that in one interview (I think it was JMS, not sure).

Petitioninf them is pretty useless....and they don't put much of a letters page in the back of the main Spidey-titles anymore (I'd imagine post-"Sins Past" issues would have been murder) so writing in won't make any difference...

As long as the books sell, he's going to remain on the same path. Things'll have to get MACKIE-bad in terms of sales before they change anything...and even then, it probably won't be the change the fans want.

Drop the attitude on mysterio. Mysterio (original) is dead. There are others running around. One is supposed to be the original but probs won't be - he's dead. He was ill and then he killed himself. He's dead.

The current Spider-Man books are very well written. What a stuck-up, judgemental thread. Judging something they don't even read. tut tut

I think you should cry about it.

that wasnt the original on the last cover, that was an imposter that was mainly in the issue till the last 2 pages or so

There are other titles that people forget...

Peter David has been writing Marvel Adventures Spider-Man, recently, which has been enjoyable. The stand alone stories featuring a young Peter.

I have been surprized by how much I am into Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane! If you judge a title by the smile it brings to your face and the degree to which you can't wait to find out what happens, then THIS title is at the top of my list.

I never did pick up Mary Jane - just sounded lame - but I heard good things about the writing/art team (kinda like Spider-Girl), so with issue #1 of SMLMJ, I decided to check it out. After issue #2 I was hooked and went back to get all of the MJ books. Yeah, it's mostly high school angst and drama with a little action, but even in the 616 universe, that's the kind of stuff that people remember and talk about years later.

I also like Spider-Man Unlimited. I'm just not sure if it's still in production.

Not enough Spider-Girl love in here. The book rebooted for all of your sins! :spidey:

I buy them because I dont mind a lot of the recent stories (The Other being the exception). I dont want to bother hunting for TPBs or back issues.

no you're right. I see where your head's at too. I didn't realize Joe Q and JMS said that. Man how stupid can you be when today's sales are a fraction of what they were 20 years ago?
you're right I guess forum posting and mailing won't make a difference with this group. besides often times "fans" will fight against you too when you demand better.

The ONLY thing I could think of is a petition of people with their names, not their forum tag but actuall name.
If we got like 100,000 names saying fire JQ and fix marvel, maybe THAT might make a difference. but that's probably a pipe dream too.

man this is sad

I love that quote on the bottom of your posts. the one about intelligent comic readers and change. brilliant.

I know, but it was Mysterio or "a" Mysterio. But anyway, I didn't have an attitude with Mysterio, so I have nothing to drop thanks. If I meant it insultingly, I wouldn't have said "lol" at the end.

I don't read any Spidey titles anymore. Instead, I buy back issues of good stories that I will enjoy.

If people want to buy them, it's up to them, they have their own minds.

I have a pretty simple rule in buying comics: I buy what I think is good. For now, that's SSM, FNSM, and USM(in trade). Admittedly, I'm sorta on the fence with FNSM, but it seems to have some...quality that's keeping me from dropping it.

Honestly, I think the only bad Spider-Man book is ASM. Overall, I'd say the writing on the Spider-Man books is just fine; it's really the editorial stuff that's pretty crappy at the moment.

I think you should shut up commenting on a book you don't read any more. But it never happens.

USM is the only one that has trades. Maybe FNSM but ASM only has a few trades.

^where'd THAT comment come from?

ASM has made trades of every single important arc since the boom in trades started a few years back.

I'm not razing you here dude.....just want to clear up a misconception....."not buying" does not mean "not reading"

Oh and Ultimate Spider-man as the answer to the initial question

what -- so you read them but don't buy them? Hows that work? Or you buy them then don't read them? Seriously, why would you do that?

...

This thread is making less sense by the second.

Ultimate Spider-Man is the answer to WHAT question? He just randomly stated ASM had no trades and then... then... I'm gonna go lie down.

Actually, ASM has trades collecting JMS' entire run. There's like 15 of them.

You look at them in the comic store. Lots of people do it. Its how you keep up with what's going on while not putting any money in Marvel's pocket :)

I read them at a local drug store.....

MyPokerShirt said:

I wouldn't.......you told Doc Destruction he shouldn't talk about a comic he doesn't read anymore.....my point was, I don't think he ever said he didn't read it....why is that so hard to understand?

...

I was simply mentioning the Spider-man titles I "buy"....like everyone else was doing in this thread??

Really? generous shops. You should really buy them if you wana read them... but whatever, i'll download odd comics, which is miles worse. Oh and the INITIAL question wasn't what titles but whether you still read them. *defends self pedantically* Ultimate Spider-Man would have been an elaboration of the answer "yes", but is a confusing thing to just say to me tagged onto my quote.
