Who is Sadie Sink playing?

Recent Marvel promotion for Black Cat:

Black Cat was featured in the animated LEGO Avengers show on Disney+ (really a movie split into two for legal purposes - Sony has the rights to feature length animation featuring its movie rights characters). It was split for the same reason Zombies was split for Spider-Man.

Her character is being teased for inclusion in the Marvel Rivals game not only in the video game but in the Marvel Rivals comic series, both in the variant covers and within the stories.

Hulk also features a lot with Spider-Man in the newest Spider-Man merchandise if you sort through Amazon's newest arrivals.

One example:

ApocHorseman, Nexus Point News: "X-Men is not casting yet. Jake Schreier hasn’t even officially signed on yet. Plus they’re likely going to be younger" (May 16, 2025)

Sneider (warning) claimed they were looking at casting Daisy Edgar Jones among others for X-Men's Jean Grey, later leading him to say:

ApocHorseman [RE:Elle Fanning passed on Jean Grey:] "They are not casting the X-Men [right now] lol." (July 18, 2025)

ApocHorseman: “Unfortunately I don’t have info on Sadie’s role [in Spider-Man: Brand New Day]” “X-Men script is being rewritten (classic Marvel) so it’s kinda early [to comment on casting/characters]” “Not sure who the leads are [for the new MCU X-Men] but they want them to be much younger. Teens/early 20s. Script is being rewritten tho” (December 25, 2025)

Sneider and others have also claimed
Famke Janssen signed on for Avengers, though X-Men writer Chris Claremont has also claimed to know that Famke will be Jean Grey in Avengers. Famke recently denies involvement...but then again, so did Chris Evans for himself as Steve Rogers, who now shows up in official Avengers marketing as returning. Dafne Keen has also downplayed knowing about any Avengers involvement...and yet her stunt double has been listed on Doomsday's IMDb for a long time.

How even legit on set gossip can be misinterpreted - in part due to character reinvention Sony (I say Sony because look at all their projects including the ones they farm off to Marvel Studios) feels the need to do the casts:

No offense to Sadie, but I would be impressed if she can pull off that bikini.

THR: Looking past Stranger Things, you’re also starring in the upcoming Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day. When you first learned you were going to be joining the Marvel universe, specifically a massive franchise like Spider-Man, what was your initial reaction?

Sadie Sink:
Oh, it was crazy. I found out while we were wrapping up season five [of Stranger Things]. Spider-Man has always been my favorite. I love Spider-Man. I love Tom’s Spider-Man, especially. To be a fan of something and then join it is a familiar feeling for me, because I was a fan of Stranger Things before I joined the show, but I was super excited about what they had planned. I also worked with the director, Dustin Daniel Kretten, in one of the first movies I ever did when I was 14, so it’s kind of a full-circle moment. I had an amazing time working on that film. I can’t wait to talk about it more. There’s so much I want to share. That’s why I feel like keeping Stranger Things secrets are kind of easy because I have so many Spider-Man secrets I’m sitting on that feel even more secretive.

Do you have a dream role or genre that you would love to take on in the future?

I’m kind of open to whatever. At least right now, I’m finding myself gravitating towards challenges, which is good. One thing that’s important to me is to really tap into every side of myself as an actor when I’m choosing a new project. The first thing I look for is: How is this going to push me in ways I haven’t been pushed before, which is a good period to be in right now because I’ve been doing this for a very long time, but I’m still very young and there’s so much more to learn as I grow older and step into more adult roles. So there’s no specific genre that I’d like to do. Although I feel like in a couple of years I’m going to be like, “I just want to do a comedy or something really light,” which I’ve actually been saying for a while, but I still gravitate towards darker, more demanding things.

When you’re with a show like Stranger Things for such a long time, how does that impact the way you look at future projects you want to take on? For example, would you ever do something with that much commitment again? Are you more selective about which projects you want to join?

Balance is something I’ve been really keeping in mind, especially with the show ending. One thing that’s so nice about Stranger Things is that you film for a year and it’s very intense commitment, but there’s also so much security in that and it allows you in your off seasons to go and either take time off or try new things. I liked that structure, so I think I’m going to continue to find the balance of a bigger project or a franchise that’s more of a long-term commitment, and then also allowing that to sprinkle in whatever other projects I want to do, specifically theater, because I really learn the most when I’m doing that.

I hope its Black Cat. A X-Men character would not sit well with me. They shouldn't be Spider-Man supporting characters in the movies, well except for Iceman.

At this point, I'm leaning towards Jean Grey , even though I dismissed the idea when it first came out.

It seems more likely to me at this point, particularly after seeing the leaked trailer.

I don't think it's Shathra .

She'll probably turn up in wacky Sony spin off film, but I just don't think Marvel Studios is gonna use that character in one of their Spiderman MCU films.

As much as I would love for Black Cat/ Felicia Hardy to appear , at this point, I think Sadie is playing The MCU Jean Grey .

Peter's heart is still gonna be with MJ , and it looks like they aren't going to give him a romantic alternate like Gwen Stacy, Debra Whitman, or Carlie Cooper, in this film at least.

That's what I'm thinking as well. I balked at the rumor months ago but now it's the only thing that seems to make. Especially with the report that she's in Secret Wars as well.

Jean Grey would be a terrible choice and would spoil my enjoyment for the film.

Do you guys think her character will be revealed when the trailer drops or are Sony and Marvel gonna subject us to more months of speculation lol.

They're saving it for the movie. They wouldn't be so hush hush about her role if it wasn't integral to the plot. They're gonna use Punisher and Hulk to sell the movie.

Well, I can't fault you if you're disappointed by that potential reveal .

I mean, I would be okay with it, Jean Grey doesn't exactly get me more hyped for the film .

If we're talking X Men characters to be in a Spider-Man film, I'd prefer Rogue or Kitty Pryde than Jean Grey.

I think Sadie Sink is a good actress , and I'm sure she'll do a good job, but I'd much prefer Black Cat or another Spiderman related character with the film already featuring Hulk and Punisher .

I'd rather see an Spider-Man supporting character, getting a role in a Spider-Man movie. Well we already have The Punisher and the Hulk, for the cross-over, there's no need to add more.

Save all the cross overs in Avengers movies, or end credits/cameo roles.

She mostly plays characters that have a sharp tongue/attitude problem/chip-on-the-shoulder with conflicts primarily with men (father, brother, male peers, etc.) but they're not evil.

Romeo & Juliet starring Sadie Sink & Noah Jupe – Behind the scenes photoshoot video released

A chunk of Sadie’s filmography also has strong romantic or M-F relationship elements. Stranger Things, Odessa, A Sacrifice, Dear Zoe, and the Taylor Swift All Too Well video. Though you could probably say that as well for actors and actresses in general after a certain point.

The leaked teaser conveys the idea that her character has taken an interest in Spider-Man/Peter Parker - she’s by herself wearing a hood inside what appears to be Parker’s domicile. She’s reading something with the clothes washer/dryer from an earlier teaser shot to her left shoulder on the right side of the screen. Parker’s computer monitors appear on the left side of the screen. Her warning voiceover seems to indicate conflict-differences of opinion at some point perhaps early on.

“I didn’t expect to jump back into theater so soon,” she says, “but I got the bug again. Shakespeare has always fascinated me as a challenge, and Romeo & Juliet is one of the most famous stories in the world. It’s endlessly adaptable. It felt like a meaningful thing to take on, as I close the Stranger Things chapter.” She adds: “I’m in a learning phase right now. I don’t have a list of dream roles—I just want to be challenged, and to keep growing.”
Sink has also been cast in an as-yet-undisclosed role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the next film in the live-action Marvel franchise starring Tom Holland and Zendaya. “I had a good time—that’s everything I’ll say,” Sink tells me with a twinkle in her eye.

I didn't know Felicity Jones was cast as Black Cat.

Black Cat was intended for the spin-offs and/or sequels they were planning but in TASM2 we just get Felicia with very limited screen time. Amy Pascal and Jones have talked about this. They didn’t intend to hire someone of FJ’s caliber just for a minor role; same with Shailene Woodley as the new MJ that they ended up cutting out of the movie. Garfield Peter Parker was going to move on with his life after the loss of Gwen.

Amy Pascal (2019) said:
[Which Spider-Man villain I want to bring to the screen the most is] a good question. I like Black Cat a lot, I think she is a really great character. We had her a little bit in the Amazing [Spider-Man] movie, but she’s kind of that character that we didn’t really turn into the Black Cat yet. I think that’s a really great character.

TASM Producers Avi Arad and Matt Tomlach confirmed future intentions for appearances:

Furthermore, there's also a brief role for Felicity Jones, playing Felicia Hardy, in the new film. Felicia Hardy goes on to become Black Cat in the comics.

So: is this coincidence?

We asked that question to Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad. Specifically, we asked if we should be reading much into the fact that they've seeded Black Cat and the Spider Slayers in the new movie? "Definitely", Avi Arad told us. "Everything you see that makes you think about the comics, I think you should read into it". Matt Tolmach added that "There are no accidents". Arad noted that "when they'll be implemented, that's food for thought".

Felicity Jones (2021) said:
“[What] I always liked about that character was the physicality. I thought it would be amazing to explore that side of the character. Black Cat has that incredible way of moving and that's what made me really excited about it. I mean, I think it's a fab role and, yeah, it would be amazing to do.”

This is where I am at as well. As for who the main villain is, I'm guessing it'll be Tombstone who fills that role, though I'm thinking the stuff with Jean and the Hulk will get more focus.

Yeah, that's what I think as well , and if one of the alleged recent plot leaks is true ,which I actually suspect it is
The new head of Damage Control played by Tramell Tillman
will be kinda a secondary villain with Scorpion / Mac Gargan being an obstacle
that Spiderman faces .

I would have much preferred Mr. Negative as the big bad , and he would actually fit pretty well with the characters they already have in the film , but, he may fall into the category of " one of the cool characters " that Sony won't let Marvel Studios use , for the time being.

Jean still feels weird (cause why introduce her in a Spider-man movie) but, I guess they do only have so many movies coming out before these {X-men rebooted} character(s) start coming into play...

and there's been little to no sit up/reference to mutants in the MCU up til this point

leading into DD / SW there's so many concepts and elements that are needed for those stories that they have to get into play or establish in the bigger picture universe

so, they got to start somewhere

A line of Sadie’s in the leaked teaser references something the director (Cretton) brought up back in March.

March 2025:

Director Destin Daniel Cretton said:
But there is something about this character for me, when I was a kid, my obsession stemmed from Peter Parker's humor, his insecurities, his imperfect, messy humanity that made me believe that the hero behind the mask wasn't so different from me…

…We’re all just daily nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event, an emotional story, and a ride that we haven't really seen before.

The lack of Mr. Negative is a surprise to me for several reasons. I was convinced for awhile that it'd be him playing that role until filming rolled on with no casting news for him.

It feels weird to me as well , while Hulk and Punisher, at least , feel a bit more like a natural fit in a Spider-Man film.

No question, Spider-man has had history with the X Men in the comics and various cartoon adaptations, but Jean Grey in a Spider-man film, still feels like an odd inclusion.

Her presence no doubt fits into the story they're telling, but as I said in the thread before, Jean Grey doesn't really get me all that hyped for the film , even though I think Sadie is a great young talent, and actress.
