The Amazing Spider-Man Who Should Direct The Reboot?

He has directed a lot of music videos. Before people scoff at that a certain David Fincher started out directing music videos. I'm sure a lot of other directors have too. It's a great place to hone a distinctive visual style.

Or it might be because he just directed a critically acclaimed movie about teenagers this year?

What? So even though Webb directed a critically acclaimed coming of age tale featuring teenagers that didn't descend into sappy melodrama, you think he would be a bad choice? And again, just because he is mainly known for music videos doesn't mean he is a bad director. David Fincher started out directing music videos and anyone who says he is a crap director needs a slap.

But he hasn't done action before so that's why I too would prefer Vaughn.

I'm worried we will have more teen angst and melodrama. I will laugh my arse off at all the people who petitioned for a rebooted because of the melodrame and we got MORE melodrama with the reboot. I'd laugh and then weep uncontrollably

500 Days of Summer was far from a melodramatic piece. It was highly funny and a really good look into the minds of young people. If Webb gets it I think I have complete trust in him.

serious question to all the people who wanted a reboot;

'hooray, now spidey will be done RIGHT'

has it never occured to you that sony may want the new franchise (the 2.5 BILLION franchise) to have a similar feel as the old franchise?

No because then that would completely defeat the object of rebooting it.

If it was all about money and if they wanted the same feel, they would of just made SM4.

not really, sony may have rebooted the franchise because the the director and actors were getting way too expensive. sony also may be rebooted the franchise because to grab a younger audience. I'm not in charge of the facts but to dismiss the above is nieve.

If they wanted that they would've just made Spider-Man 4 with a new director and cast. It'd still have been cheaper than keeping Raimi and his crew around.

Your logic is not really making sense on this one, neil.

true they could have moved forwards with a new cast and crew but wouldn't have made the may 2011 so put plan B into effect. well this is just specualtion at this point so I'll stop here but when this movie comes out we'll see have far they stray from the themes and tone of the OT.

Yeah, you know he's been talked to. Look at how he acts for God sakes.

Fincher also made the adrian peterson nike commercial

how would they do that w/o there star Tobey said he was only coming back because Sam was same for Kirsten too

that is why the reboot script was made because all 3 publicly were not sure they wanted to come back

I'd be happy with Webb. Haven't seen 500 days yet but I've heard he handles the whole teenager thing without getting all mushy and melodramatic. But I still think throwing a guy who has never down action before into a Spidey film is like throwing a baby into the deep end without arm bands.

My first choice is Vaughn, but like I said, I'd be happy with Webb and it seems I'll have to be.

Webb did great with 500 days of Summer. I hate romantic comedies, they are predictable, they are so cliche, and they are usually hopless romantics, with such fantasy attached to them.

Not 500 days of Summer. I remember seeing that and agreeing with most that saw it, that 500 was how it REALLY goes. How Love really treats a person, and its not a love story, its more about getting over Summer, and it deals with expectations, obsession controlling, behaviors.

The funny thing is its the only movie like that where I said..yep that's how it really goes in the real world of love/romance.

So to me yea Webb won't bring melodramatic"ness" to Spidey at all. The opposite, he'll bring a grounded reality to how things really go about in the real world.

But Vaughn would be great too.

yeah i heard 500 days of summer is more of a story about love than a love story is that a good assumption?

Yea that would be a way to put it. The first part well, its really non-linear. But it has a small portion of it being him falling in love with some one that really does not want to be with him, and is kinda being a confused/unsure/tease of a girl. But the rest is him trying to get back with her, trying to get over her, and so much more. It was a deep film that sadly most people have faced this kind of situation.

It really was a real world drama kind of thing.

he handles the whole teenager thing

What teenage thing? Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zoey Deschanel are in their `20s and play characters that age in the movie. (500) Days of Summer has nothing to do with teenagers. It's about adults and real relationships not puppy love high school stuff.

for me I think its important for the director to understand superheroes. yeah yeah sure characterization is important but the superhero is a character as well. yeah sure nolan did an amazing job with batman but spidey is a little,

(1) he wears a mask for his character has to shine through even though you can't see his face and
(2) peter parker happens to be spider-man, batman happens to be bruce wayne.
I think the former is harder to pull off than the latter and I think you can only pull it off if you understand the dichotmy of superheroes.

I'm speculating here because I haven't seen any of webb's work but my fear is out of costume webb may indeed nail the complexities of a teenage PP but in costume the complexities of a care free, wise cracking hero may be lost. you don't have that problem with batman, batman IS bruce wayne, bruce wayne IS batman.
