True.The resemblence is pretty uncanny.
True.The resemblence is pretty uncanny.
You know, not to put words in Sinewave's mouth, but I'm guessing he is put off by a public official, one who wants the nation's highest office, wearing his religion on his sleeve in a nation that supposedly seperates church and state. I think that is what he is getting at and not "I hate him because he is Christian!"
So, the reason you no longer support Huckabee is because he is a Christian? So, the only reason you are not supporting him is his religous beliefs. Way to be tolerant.
I agree with everything you've said about the above candidates, my only issue is that the underlined statement is like almost everyones opinion on Dr. Paul. If everyone that said I like him but he won't win actually votes for him, he should win by a landslide.

not at all. i've known he was a baptist minister since i first heard of him and i've never had a problem with it in general. if you re-read my post you'll see the turning point was when he made a political ad with a heavy-handed christian message in it. he was basically pulling the old "war on christmas" crap by emphasizing christmas and chrstianity and downplaying other religious holidays that occur at this time of year. i only caught it once so i can't remember exactly how it went, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. the lines between church and state have been blurred enough over the last few years, i'm not about to support someone who wants to shatter them completely.
Ok, I can understand that. I don't believe that if elected Huckabee would or really, could do anything to blur that sacred line between church and state. Presidents set the agenda, Congress would be the one that would have to enact it. I don't believe that if he would be elected, students would start being forced to pray in the middle of class or anything.
While the candidate who's views are in line with mine, Kucinich, is on the far left wing, I totally understand and agree with what you are saying, Sinewave. Its the reason why I like Richardson and Edwards as president. We need someone who will actually bring everyone together in a normal atmosphere. Its easy to unite a country when its been attacked, but difficult when there is nothing.
exactly. there's far too much divisiveness in modern politics. religion just exacerbates things. i'd love to see someone get elected who didn't just cater to a small base, but the entire country. someone who will re-establish america's good name and not pit the rest of the world and half the country against it.
I can agree with that, but how do you go about those things? No Democrat has said how they plan on fulfilling those promises. How can you run on "I want to take america back to being great"? What is their plan on getting there? And who's defination of America being Great?exactly. there's far too much divisiveness in modern politics. religion just exacerbates things. i'd love to see someone get elected who didn't just cater to a small base, but the entire country. someone who will re-establish america's good name and not pit the rest of the world and half the country against it.

When I went to get my papers taken care of to travel to china in a few months, I was always told to dress down the fact that Im an American. No baseball caps, no sports jerseys. Now, Im fluent in french, so anywhere I go outside of the country, I pretend Im french.
How sad is that. I love this country, but the fear that comes over me when I hear of kidnappings overseas is horrifying. Its that reason why I want new blood. I dont want a Clinton. I love Richardson, but he is the only candidate that has national experiance that I dont hate. Edwards is my guy. My real choice.

I made up that line, but the intent is there. How do you vote for someone that isnt willing to tell you how there plan works?
How can you vote for someone that is willing to take more of your money that you earned and give it to someone else? Universal Health Care, Social Security, Welfare.
McCain is the only republican I like. Paul's ideas are too crazy to put in place without others who think like him in congress.
I like McCain too, as a Republican. But I'd vote for Bill Richardson or John Edwards before I'd cast my vote for McCain.
Yeah, I've always been kind of wishy washy on McCain because of the whole war thing, but he was a POW for what? Seven years or something? I have a hard time believing that he of all people would be willing to commit young men to combat. I think he may have been saying what conservatives wanted to hear in order to get elected (not that that is anything to brag about either) rather than honestly wanting to send troops into a fate as bad or worse than his own. But this is all a guess, which is why McCain slips lower and lower off my radar with each passing day. But of all the Republicans, he seems to be the only one who cares about the environment and that is very important too me.i used to like mccain until he let bush and rove trash him in the '00 election and then resorted to going back on his word by kowtowing to the religious right. plus, you know, the whole supporting the war thingie.

Well, let me explain myself on the McCain comment.
Compare him to the other candidates on the republican side. Thats the reason why I like him.
I didn't support the war, but I feel McCain is sincere about his support for the war....the surge has reduced violence in the region, so you have to give him some credit. He ws a POW, and he supports banning torture, but being a POW that doesn't make one a pacifist..
I want to know why people voted for Paul. Now Norman, Hippie Hunter, and Fire I know from reading their posts. Most of the others, however, I want to know their reasoning. I ask because I see Paul as the guy that bandwagoners jump for.
