Why are so many killer spider films lame?

I guess the answer is in the question....but when they work well, the menace of giant spiders is obvious. Look at Shelob, or the 1950's movie Tarantula.

Also Arachnophobia is great, although has disapointingly small spiders.

And then everything else is terrible. Eight Legged Freaks tried to mock lame B-movies and became one itself. There are some DVD movies like Arachnid and Spiders which are somehow even worse. I've never seen Kingdom of the Spiders, the legendary Shatner vs spiders movies, but it's on my list. The giant spiders in Harry Potter and the Chambr of Secrets are fairly lame.

Everyone is scared of spiders. I mean, I'm not scared of spiders, and even I'm scared of spiders.

Dammit, I'm beginning to sound like John Peters.

I thought Eight Legged Freaks was good. It wasnt meant to be scary it was a B-movie like the ones they realeased in the 50's.

There is only one killer spiders movie you or anyone should ever watch...and thats Arachnaphobia...end of story. Don't waste your time with giant spiders...at its best...Eight Legged Freaks was only ok.

Those B-movies are supposed to be scary.

Eight Legged Freaks is supposed to be funny and scary. Fails at both.
