Secret Invasion #8 spoilers

OK, if you read SI #8, you will know that Norman Osborn has taken over SHIELD now. But how will this affect Spidey? My guess is...not much. Just like after civil war where Norman became the leader of Thunderbolts, it took quite a while for Spidey to face Norman in NWTD, and it didn't really have much impact on both Spidey and Norman too.

So, I was wondering, is there anyone who hopes that Spidey will become someone more, important? Maybe it's the style of the ASM now, ASM titles now seems quite self contained, largely uneffected by what's going on the Marvel Universe. And when Spidey appears in other important titles (New Avengers, SI), he's just there to crack jokes. Can't he maybe gain more respects in the MU, instead of become the loser every time, and play more role in events, especially now that his nemesis Norman has risen to power?

What's your opinion?

thats a good point Spideys their flagship hero yet they treat him like an X-book. except with x-books there are 3 X-men titles, X-force, X-factor, Cable + 3-4 limited series and one shots.

But really this has to effect Spidey its not just some guy its the freakin' green goblin.
But how did OMD effect the rest of the marvel universe I feel like it hasn't at all.(other than the obvious part) But they altered reality thats a big thing.

Unless the event has some direct ties to him, (Dark Avengers possiblity)...no I don't want Spider-Man to become more important than he is in the grand sceme of things in the Marvel Universe.

In Universe wise (not our Universe) the Big 3 are Captain America, Iron, Man and Thor and they should be more important than Spidey.

I think Spidey should remain a loner...
He should be more reminiscent of his former days, where seeing Spidey in another book meant he was "necessary" instead of only being added to add comic relief to a plot.

He's become a D list side kick in his appearances outside his own comics and this has been for a while....I think Bendis has had too much influence on the character. I think his Ultimate Spider-man is perfect. No one could write it better....

but when it comes to writing an adult Spider-man he comes off a bit weak sometimes.

I really like this new development. Having Norman with this power has so much possibilities.

And as long as Norman still has an obsession with Spider-Man (unless this whole devil deal screwed that up as well), this would prove to be a HUGE problem for Spidey. I would like to see this effect his books for a while.

By the way, Norman not knowing Spidey is Peter is something about this OMD/BND thing that does not bother me. Norman was prone to amnesia in the past. This is an interesting twist where he remembers he is the Green Goblin, but not Spider-Man's ID.

Anyway, I like this development in the MU. It really raises Norman's stock as a villain across the whole MU. I just hope he doesn't forget our little Spidey!

I suppose as head of Shield he could actually use very little of his new resources to just find out Spidey's ID again.

:whatever:

Its about time that someone from Spider-man's world plays a major role in the marvel universe! Spider-man is marvel's flagship character and yet he pretty much stays out of the rest of the MU's affairs for the most part. There's never been a marvel event that centered around spider-man or anything in his world, this should be very interesting indeed.

He's called the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man for a reason. It seems that so many spiderfans want to change him to a completely different character.

I don't want to change him. But, given Norman's new position and his obsession with Spider-Man, it would be interesting to see Spidey as the focus of the MU for a little bit. After all, you know this will eventually end when the world realizes what a mistake this was.

And isn't it ironic that this all came about because of a Skrull Invasion? An invasion of evil green guys with pointed ears?

Yes, in fact; i specifically asked Bendis (on his Myspace page) to make sure that when the dust clears, and all is said and done, it's Peter Parker who ends up taking Norman down.

While it was fun and cool having Luke Cage clobber Norman way back in an early issue of The Pulse, i think in a storyline of THIS magnitute, Peter should be the one responsible in ending the threat.

He and Norman ARE arch-enemies, after all...:spidey: :gg:

Agreed! :applaud

Spider-Man, being unlikely to take down a huge organization effecting the whole MU, defeating Norman would be great! And totally fitting!

Something like that could lead Norman to a straight jacket in a padded cell.

Yes Spider-Man always was a loner and always should be. Just don't count 150+ issues of Marvel Team Up. Spider-Man being an Avenger was way overdue when it happened, and with his sense of responsibility he should've been more aggressive in joining before.

Actually in upcoming previews they get in to Osborn being Spider-Man's villain and Pete feeling obligated to take him down. Although I think this is one of Marvel's tactics to salvage the character.

I like how you used the emoticons incase we forgot who you were talking about. I really wish this board would do away with those things.

Marvel Team up basically was a Spidey book.
I like to think of it as Marvel's very own "Batman: the Brave and the Bold."

For the most part he was still a loner in those stories. But the characters needed each other, now that's a team up. These days Characters are thrown into each others book constantly for the cool factor.

Look at how Wolverine was featured in Brand New Day. Take him out of that story and you wouldn't have noticed a thing. :oldrazz:

Thanks for pointing that out to him Cap....and I agree. Nothing against the other heroe's but he's Spidey's very own "personal" villain.
Every time they fight there is personal tension on the pages.

They had Luke Cage clobber Norman? I love Luke but he's turn into Silver age Superman lately...every other day I hear about him displaying more powerful feats than he used to....I think it's cool that he's becoming big time again. I always thought he was an underrated character. (The tiara held him back)

But its a bit weird at how Spidey and him fought to a standstill back in the day....they respected each other, and Spidey made him reassess himself about using his abilities for money, now Spidey is the annoying sidekick. :csad:

Actually, no. Spidey beat Luke pretty soundly in their initial meeting...twice in one issue, in fact.

But yes; Luke is far more powerful these days then he was back then.

Ah yes. After the "ambush" and during the party...(was it a party?)

I mean I have no problem with other heroes's holding their own against other heroes.
But I guess what bothers me the most is how Spidey is a bit of this "annoying loser" to him. Spidey was the same guy that taught him something about the superhero game.

I don't think Spidey should be at the top. But he should be respected better than he is currently.

Even in the DD issue of Brand New Day....Daredevil was finding Spidey a bit annoying. Aren't they supposed to be close friends?

It was good to see Spidey handling all of the thunderbolts on his own in NWTD.

DD only found Spidey annoying because of the way Guggenheim portrays Spidey. Guggenheim's spidey is extremely annoying even to the reader.

:woot: Seriously. If anyone here has a problem with me, or how i post, then put me on "Ignore", because i'm not planning to leave any time soon.

Actually you care enough about what I said to put so much significiance in a comment I made then forgot about the second I got off the puter.
