...discredit the existence of the Sidhe and other such beings, when there is evidence of their possible existence?

In the old Celtic beliefs, the Sidhe and such beings were fond of abducting human babies and leaving their own in the place of the human baby. There was proof that was supposed to denounce the existence of such creatures:

"The reality behind many changeling legends was often the birth of deformed or ******ed children. Among the diseases with symptoms that match the description of changelings in various legends are spina bifida, cystic fibrosis, PKU, progeria, homocystinuria, William's syndrome, Hurler's syndrome, Hunter's syndrome, and cerebral palsy."

^These are the basic "signs" of a changeling, simply covered up in high falutin medical terminology. Instead of denouncing, this is only proof that such supernal creatures may still exist.

You say, "well, if the child is born with those symptoms, how could they be a changeling?"

Simple: the Sidhe or similar being would invoke a sort of spell that would steal the unborn child from the womb, replacing it with their own.

Think about it.

Lay off the drugs...

Yeah. After my grandfather past away, I looked into his side of the family and found he had some Celtic ancestors way on down the line. Curious, I looked into their beliefs and what not. In effect, I formulated a crazy theory that I will one day write a paper on. From there I will achieve levels of controversy Darwin never dreamed of.

@CyberFaust: You read Lovecraft, too?

@SWAT: No drugs involved. Just a musing.

i read demonology and old lore, hellboy, and i live in Romania the perfect combo to know such things, you should see some of the old lore around here, it'll make your skin crawl:woot:

Demonology huh? Sounds a bit too heavy for myself. I'm funny about stuff like that. Could you send me a pm with some of that old lore?

not really, because most of my collection comes in non-digital form, luckly for me, there was a really big cultural thing over here in 1848, when everyone was writing stuff that copy the french of that time, exactly and then some people decided to give us some cultural identity and started to write about things that went on here, istoric novels and such, even fairy tales based in popular myths and lore, people went all over the country and gathered these stories from village to village (this was even done closer to our time, i have a book published in the 70's with popular lore gathered from elders)
anyhow, although there is some variation, most have the same core, and the same malevolent beings.

hahaha, here's one:
you know those beautiful fairies in the woods that are said apear as dancing maidens. yeah, well, it is said that if yo see them dancing they will either rip out your guts and stretch them ofer a mill of a fence, or sripple you for life if your lucky

another is that babies that are still born or die before baptising transform into "mormoi" these are like vampires, killing people and animals

on your part, with celtic lore, things are just as wierd and freaky, the Sidhe even have their own episode in hellboy, i forget which number though

So you're saying that the physically deformed and mentally ******ed are proof that fairies and monsters exist?

Tinkerbell was a naughty minx who deserved all the spanking she got

(God I wish I had a gif of that right now)

You uh....you want a moment alone, there? :)

@ SuperFerret: Anything's possible, though the Sidhe certainly aren't your average fairytale faeries. :yay:

@the_ultimate_evil: No. Who's thesumofgod?

What? This holds about as much water as Darwin's theory imo...

Why don't you ask whatshisface to build a time machine so you can go back in time to take pictures or something? :dry:

Time travel and the science of it makes my head hurt. Plus where would I get the plutonium? :oldrazz:

this makes me think of Cat's eye and it is trolls that in fact steal children's souls and not the cats!! I agree with you!

Hey, I'm all for theories that support the supernatural, but this just sounds terribly offensive. "Poor Jimmy's got Down's Syndrome." "No he doesn't. He's not human." :huh: It's frogged up if you ask me.

So you're saying that the physically deformed and mentally ******ed are proof that fairies and monsters exist?

That's exactly what I was wondering...

I really don't understand what his post proves, as there's no real connection to anything. He simply said, "People believed this, so this means it can be true now."

Uh... Proof?

the position of the superhero hype board, crackhead and stoner has already been filled.
