Gods & Men: The Ancient Myths RPG: Chapter 1 OOC Thread

I'm just having my bard continue his tale until things get moving again.

Gods & Men: The Ancient Myths RPG: SEASON I

Screen Name: SuperFerret

Character you have created (include known alias or nicknames here as well): “Beardless” Brottor Balderk

Race/Culture (What race is your character, and, if human, what culture does your character hail from, for example is your character Roman, Athenian, Celtic, Norse, Spartan, Persian, etc) (GMs must approve of any race not part of the big 5: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Halfling, and Orc): Dwarf

Racial Traits (traits specific to your race; a list can be found in the second post of the OOC thread) (For races not listed, GMs must create traits for that race first before player approval): Darkvision (able to see in the darkness up to 60 feet, but in black and white only); Toxin Resistance (dwarven toughness allows them to resist most standard poisons, but it does not make them immune to them. They are just not as affected as strongly as a man would be, and large doses can still prove fatal); Stonecunning (due to spending most of their lives under the Earth, dwarves have a natural affinity for stone-workings and the like. Thus they are able to notice unusual stonework if they are close by it, such as stone traps, non-magical stone secret doors, unsafe stone surfaces, shaky stone ceilings, etc); Depth-Sense (Dwarves have the innate ability to sense how deep they are underground, but this is not accurate and usually falls in a window of a few miles); average life-span of 150 years

Character Class (Somewhat similar to the classes in the CAH RPG, but with some differences) (Choose One):

Paladin (these holy knights are champions of their chosen deity and are able to wield low-level Protective magicks to compliment their martial prowess. However they must remain pure and true to their god and their god's doctrine. Any wavering, no matter how minor, will force them to lose favor with their deity and thus lose their spells. Once favor is lost the paladin must seek atonement to regain favor with their divine patron. Evil Paladins are called Blackguards and wield low level Necromantic spells instead of Protective magic; Paladins cannot be of Neutral alignment)

Patron Deity (only required for those under the Paladin heading or those who are a priest, cleric, or other divine agent; others may choose one if they wish to flesh out their character more) (Your Patron Deity MUST be from the pantheon significant to your character's culture, I.E. no Odin worshipping Egyptian Priestess) (Elves and Dwarves have their own pantheons which are briefly detailed under the Mounting Heavens of Celestia with the race's evil deities mentioned in the Nine Hells of Baator): Brottor heeds the call of Moradin, chief god of the Dwarven race.

Magic (if your character is a Mystic, choose one of the following schools of magic to specialize in. NOTE: A player will only be able to cast spells that deal with their school, forsaking all others, so choose carefully) (Descriptions of the schools can be found in a reserved post in the OOC Thread): Brottor, like all dwarves dislikes the use of magic, even though he has some minor power in the Protective school.

Speech Color and/or Font (actually say what you're using, i.e. Arial Black; don't go "Like this", or what not): Slate Gray Arial Black

Character Alignment (Good/Evil/Neutral): Good, like any self-respecting paladin.

Character Personality (Give information on how your character acts, what he/she believes in, how they handle situations): Brottor is a fairly typical dwarven paladin in most regards. He is honest, loyal, honorable and serious. However, he does have the ability to laugh at himself, and he is also very humble, two things that not many a dwarf or paladin can say of themselves.

Origin Info/Details (don't be blunt, be as thorough as possible):

Brottor is an oddity. The Dwarven race is known for their beards, a trait all of their number, even women, share, yet Brottor Balderk, who was once known as a great hero to his race, lacks his whiskers. The story of how Brottor gained his ‘beardless’ status is a long one, but it is worth telling for sake of exposition, as well as showing how Brottor, a proud Dwarven warrior, wound up as a blacksmith who had a human wife and two half-orcish children.

Our story begins with a much younger Brottor, who still had his long golden beard at the time, while he was on a mission with a Dwarven war party to raid a nearby camp of hobgoblins. This bit of history is crucial, as it is the event that lead Brottor onto the path of the paladin, a path that would render him beardless one day.

Byron Durmin, the dwarf who was leading the raid, had concocted a plan to oust the hobgoblins using subterfuge and stealthy guerilla tactics. Brottor, being almost abnormally honorable, refused to go along with the plan, and thus strode out alone into the middle of the hobgoblin war camp, challenged the Goblinoid chieftain to a duel and slew him in one on one combat. After his battle with the hobgoblin leader, he was beset upon by the rest of the warband, and despite his companions timely rescue, Brottor was gravely injured. While recovering from his wounds, Brottor was visited by a high priest of Moradin, and told that for his bravery, he was to become a paladin.

Over the next three decades Brottor grew into his new profession as a protector of innocents and honorable combatant of evil, and he was heralded as a legend among the dwarves. Brottor was happy with his lot in life. At least, he was until the fateful events in a small human village in the British Isles.

The town was called Cottington, and when Brottor arrived it was under siege by a group of orcish bandits. Riding to the rescue, Brottor turned the tables on the raiders, slaying them to the last, or so he thought. An hour after he had defeated what he had thought was the last of the orcs and had begun to give aid to those injured in the raid, Brottor discovered two orcs holed up in a cottage on the edge of town. They had slaughtered the family that had lived there, aside from a young maiden, whom they were violating as Brottor had found them. Flying into a very uncharacteristic rage, Brottor killed both orcs with his bare hands attempting to rescue the girl. But he was too late already, she had been repeatedly raped, and was already pregnant with half-breed children. Brottor, in his way, felt that through his failure to prevent the girl’s rape that he was the father of the soon to be children, and swore to help the young woman raise the children.

Now seventeen years later, Brottor, aged seventy, is married to the woman, who is named Elena, and has raised the twin half-orcs, Einkil (his son) and Diesa (his daughter). He works as the town blacksmith in Cottington, and lives a generally simple life. Little does he know that fate will soon throw him once again upon the path of the wandering hero.

Attributes (Select one from each category) (some races are greater or weaker than a human in specific categories and will be noted below or in the racial traits section of the OOC thread):

Strength Level: Peak (Dwarves in peak condition are slightly stronger than a man)

Speed/Reaction Timing Level: Weak (Dwarves are slightly slower than a man in peak condition)

Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort/Durability: Peak (Dwarves are more sturdy than a man in peak condition)

Agility: Weak (Dwarves are less agile than a man in peak condition)

Intelligence: Above-Average (All non-human character races described above are treated normally, although keep in mind that an Orcish super-genius is a truly unique character)

Fighting Skill: Mastered

Resources: Average

Notable Equipment (Items your character has on them of relevance, such as thieving tools if they're a rogue, holy items if they're a priest, magic weapons and/or armor, magic items, etc; we assume you're character has basic stuff, like rations, waterskin, and a torch or lantern; be as specific as possible as well as realistic as possible, I.E. if your character is carrying a ton of stuff their mobility and endurance will be sorely hindered; also keep in mind that magic items are rare, expensive, and difficult to make) (For ideas for notable equipment, and magic items, check out the link below the app): Brottor wears masterwork half-plate armor, and uses common mundane equipment, all of masterwork quality. His one and only magical item is his Holy Avenger Warhammer, named Th’Rak (a Dwarven name meaning “Hammer of Oaths”). Th’Rak has a powerful enchantment on it, which not only helps Brottor hit harder and more often in combat, but also protects him and those nearby from all but the most powerful magical spells. Th’Rak, being a blessed weapon also harms unholy creatures such as demons, devils, and the undead much more than a similarly enchanted, but unblessed, weapon would.

Weaknesses (If your character has any specific weakness, such as a vampire's weakness to sunlight (among other things) or a Faerie's weakness to iron, list them here): Brottor has no actual physical weaknesses, but his strong sense of loyalty and honor can be used against him.

Supporting Characters (Does your character have a significant other? A mother? A Friend? Who are they, what do they have to do with your character?): Brottor has a wife, Elena, and twin adopted children, Einkil and Diesa. Elena is human and the twin are half-orcs with Einkil taking after his orcish heritage and Diesa is more human than orc.

Describe using proper English grammar what you think you can bring to the RPG: If I wrote out that whole history up there, do I really need to answer this? I can bring a vast knowledge of fantasy worlds, and years of role-playing experience.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As many as life allows.

Do you know how to post pictures on the hype boards: Aye.

Sample Post (Minimum Four decent-sized paragraphs containing dialogue):

“Okay, lad, now ye got to turn it over.” Brottor said to his ‘son’ Einkil, who was holding the heated piece of metal that would become the boy’s very first sword.

“Like this, father?” Einkil asked, respect filling his gruff voice as he turned the soon-to-be sword, then using his muscular forearm to wipe some sweat off his sloping brow. It sure was hot this close to the forge.

“Aye lad, just like that.” Brottor began to pound the metal flat again, sending small sparks scattering with each landed blow.

“Poppa?” came a melodic voice from the entrance to the shop. Both the older dwarf and the younger half-orc looked up in response. Unlike her twin brother Einkil, Diesa got most of her traits from her mother’s humanity. The young half-orcish beauty shared the slight greenish skin tone of her brother, but she had a human’s features and intelligence, and most of all, her voice was heavenly. Brottor was sure that the girl was to become a famed singer one day, just as he knew that Einkil’s immense strength and rather dim mind would lead the boy down the road of the warrior. “Poppa, Mother wanted me to tell the two of you that dinner is done. We wouldn’t want that mutton getting cold.”

Einkil did a double take, looking back and forth from his sister, his father and his new unfinished sword. “But, what about..” he stuttered.

“No need to worry, lad.” Brottor said, laying down his hammers and snuffing out the forge’s fire, “we can finish after dinner. The metal’s not going anywhere, and your dear mother’s mutton is nothing to put off until later. Let’s go eat.” With that, Brottor Balderk walked with his two adopted children down the road a bit to their home.

This is a fairly good representation of what Brottor looks like, with the following exceptions: he should be broader and stockier, be wielding a hammer instead of a sword, and also a DWARF, not a GNOME (it was hell looking for a non-bearded dwarf).

Approved. Welcome back.

So, since our little party to Theebes has slowed down to a crawl, would it be okay to just skip ahead to Theebes?

I'm ok with that. Like I said, just gonna tell my bard til everyone seems to be ready to move on out.

Yeah, I'm cool with that. All I ask is that give Twy today to respond. If not, I'll bunny us through the owlbear encounter and back to camp.

Ok, lets get our sorry asses to Thebes.

And, Byrd...a Hilarion post would be awesome too.

Ok, lets get our sorry asses to Thebes.

And, Byrd...a Hilarion post would be awesome too.

Kk. I will do a post, halting the continuation of my tale, and I guess get us to Thebes? I get off in 3 hrs so I can work on it then the latest.

Did some trimming off the roster. Removed Amun, Gunnar, and Liam from the heroes, and Archilaus from the villains.

So, should we write Amun and Gunnar out of the current story or what? Just not ever mention them again?

So, should we write Amun and Gunnar out of the current story or what? Just not ever mention them again?

Not sure. Can either have them stay with us as NPCs, are just have them go their separate way from the group.

I sent out a couple of PMs to both Sensei and Carnage, and neither replied or acted on what I told them. So I don't think they have any intention of retaking their characters.
Still, I'm not for killing them off, just in case they decide to come back.

Personally, I think we should just have them split up from our group and do their own thing. Maybe have them join up with an early expedition force that's heading Northwest to fight the undead armies at Dusseldorf?

Oh, I never meant to kill 'em when I said to write them out. What you suggested is what I meant: something to get them out of the story. Because while I'm down for NPCs...since it's not my characters and someone else within the RPG created them I feel weird were I to use them as NPCs.

So my vote is to somehow send them packing.

Right on. Hopefully do that then before we leave Thebes. Just have to figure out the best way to write them out of the group.
And need to find out what Twy's status is in this game. I sent her a PM as well, but have yet to get a reply.

Maybe Charaun's War on Humanity has struck at the core of Gunnar's, Amun's, and if need be Aithne's homes and they leave the group to travel back home and fend off the evil forces?

A couple of characters are in the bar at Thebes, right? I'll have Xxymryx get himself a drink too. What better way to make new friends than in a pub? :D

I prefer the group hearing word of the undead army marching on Dusseldorf and sending whoever's dropped out to go and hold them off there.

Well, we'll be heading to that fight, eventually. But sending them away with the first army heading that way would work. Maybe make Gunnar and Amun a little on edge, ready to get after the undead now instead of wasting time in Thebes? That way, when a warband comes marching through, they can part ways and join up with them?

So, not that I really have to say this, but I'm out of the game.

Sorry, everyone.

Wieg, Xxymryx looks human, correct? No signs of his Drow heritage at all?

Yeah, I modeled his appearance on Raistlin. With the exception of some sensitivity to light and fighting back some very dark tendencies, he has all the best parts of both races.

2w5nfdk.jpg

Right on. That's what I thought. Wanted to be sure if he looked like a ****** elf or not though before posting.

So, since we're getting ready to leave Thebes, I was thinking of just mentioning that Amun and Gunnar had left the group when Twy and SF arrive?
Make them having gone to join up with the Spartan warband that was passing by or something.

Or, if you all prefer, we could have them come with us and just lose them in the chaos that will be the Battle of the Rhineland?
