I mean is there actually a personal reason as to why they do what they do?

For Example:
Batman fights crime because his parents were killed.

Spider-Man fights crime because he let the burglar get away which led to the burglar killing Uncle Ben.

Do they fight crime because of something like this or they just do it because they just feel like it?

Sorry if this is a stupid question. I've just never understood this.

They dont usually fight "crime" per se... they're usually opposed against world-threatening situations (Doom, Galactus, Skrull Invasion, Atlantean Invasion, Negative Zone invasion, etc.,)...

They got special abilities and they use them to fight evil.

I Think In Reeds Case Its To Make Amends For Causing His Friends To Be Irradiated And Causing Ben's Disfigurement.he Already Knew To Use His Abilities Wisely

its the right thing to do

Actually they decided to use their abilities to "help mankind"( see FF#1)-although critics note that "mankind" in practice means the United States of America, its allies( although they've saved the world- including as it does US hostile Governments such as the USSR and Soviet bloc, Cuba, Libya and Iraq) literally scores of times- they're not cops!

Because it would be a boring comic book if they didn't.

ha there really isn't much reason

They are more known as explorers than crime fighters, once the world found out about their exceptional powers, they are asked in many instances to help stop this or that villain.......and many of their villains, end up not being villains at all, just misunderstood alien-beings....:yay:

So, their true motive is while exploring new worlds, they have the strong and ever present desire to do the right thing....

That's more Waid's recent recast (and a good one).

The reason why the FF fight evil is because they truly are a throw back to a better, simpler time. They fight evil because it is the right thing to do. In today's me-first society, where most of us would need substantially more motivation than "it's the right thing to do" it's easy to be amazed by or lose sight of that as a motivation.
Thank God there are plenty of people like that in the Police, Military and Firefighters of the world. Some of us do good because we remember that it is our responsibility as humans to do good. To have great power only heightens that responsibility... kinda reminds me of a quote I heard somewhere.
