Superman Returns Why Don't Some Superman Fans Like Superman Returns?

Honestly, do you know what an opinion is? I honestly don't know why you're in this thread. You loved the movie apparently, but this thread is called Why don't some Superman fans like Superman Returns? This applies to anyone who liked the movie.

Apparently you didnt read my post again, as i said NO ONE's opinion is irrelevant whether you agree with it or not, so i obviously clearly have a grasp of an opinion and those of others.

And as for the bolded part, yes i did like the movie, so i am in the right thread according to you.

You know who you insulted. It's been pointed out already. You're also putting words in my mouth. I never said it was a fact.Try reading it again. It seems you're the one who lacks reading comprehension skills. Point to me where I stated it as a fact. I know you can't, so this discussion is over.

Point out to me who i insulted? If you mean X-M he insulted people who like the movie first. And i'm not going through post after post looking for what you said, i have neither the time or patience. You had no need to join the argument anyway, and you were the one who put words in MY mouth when you tried to point out that i said people's opinions dont matter, its not nice is it? I have never said nothing of sort, least of all in that post you quoted.

This argument is getting us no were, so lets just drop it and get back on topic.

Nope. Wrong again.
Again, it's wrong from the beginning to be expecting something from a movie, it twists the vision of the film. Even more if you follow it closely with spoilers. If they were expecting something, sure, they were deceived. Fans demanding amore realistic superman ? while most of them ask for a more bright suit ? a real blue with a real red ? Fans asking for a darker Superman ? They can't even like this one. And IMO he was dark enough. everyone knows that Singer is a fan of Donner's. Yet WB would have take him in persistently believing he's going to do a re-start ?
Personnally, I didn't find that his film was a "digital film version of a 70's movie". I think it's a sequel. With differences, just like a comicbook.
A re-start is so easy to make. I think the difficulty is to create on smthg already existing. I find that SR has done his job, now it is time for B.Singer to move on and give his own ideas.

Well said Clarky, with SR, many people got what they had asked for, yet still didnt like it, we got a darker Superman, with a more modern story, so what more could Singer have done.

I still think SR is a superb Superman story anyway, the Superman in SR is the same one as in the comics IMO and we got a great movie out him. I hope we get MOS which will be even better IMO.

Yet the fact that there is so much disagreement about it, there is no sequel already filming and WB have waited so long to move forward pretty much proves that SR failed to do what it was intended to do. The fact is not enough people got wahat they asked for, and I don't think there was anything modern about SR.

What more could SInger have done? How about read a Superman comic book? How about be original in his approach, how about make a film that isn't boring? How about have a coherent story? HOw about not go over budget? How about lighten his pallette?

BTW, who wanted a darker Superman?

Superman isn't supposed to be 'dark'. I don't mind him being conflicted over the discovery of Krypton and wanting to go there but I don't see that as 'dark'.

Nearly 2 years have gone by and not as single word about a sequel which rather odd for a movie where people claim it to be great and a success.

Indeed a disturbance in the force :(

Before the movie came out, MANY on here were requesting a darker Superman that more reflected our times. Thats what they got, and it seems they are getting that in the comics now also. The Journey, For Tomorrow, Sacrifice and Ruin Revealed were all pretty dark, Redemption looks dark also but i havent got around to reading it yet.

Singer did read a few comics, the movie wasnt boring, the story was coherent and he didnt go over budget either.

Terminator was a great success and didn't have a sequel for like 7 years. T2 was more successful and didn't have a sequel for more than 10 years. :o

Not every movie get a sequel like Batman Begins or Spider-Man, you know? Again, Terminator, Aliens, etc. all made sequels several years later than 2 or 3 yrs. after.

Oh yes he did. That is without question that he went over budget. I know you like to cheerleader this film to death, but when a film is budgeted at 185 mill, and comes in for nearly 250 mill, that is over budget.

Exactly, it has been the same with many franchises, even Terminator 4 is coming out 5 years after T3.

The budget was offically $204 million Bugg's, Showtime posted an article that stated this, and WB allowed him to go to that much.

Still had a bit of an over spend though yeah.

ACtually the official budget is 209 after 30 mill in Ausie tax rebates, as reported by the official guy who oversees acounting for the WB back in the sumemr of 2006. There was a link in the old box office thread. he explain exactly how much it cost before and after the tax breaks.

and they still got 30 mill in tax breaks so the film,e en if 204 mill cost 234 to make an not 185 as was buddgeted so he did go over. REally your passion on defending singger is getting old.

And your passion for complaining or bashing SR everytime is getting old too. Kettle meet pot.

Showtime should post a link again that show he is correct.

No.

Check the first post and intention of the thread. It is not about complaining but to understand from a civil debate why people who dislikes the movie didn't like it.

The opener of the thread likes the movie and his intention was a frank desire of a true understanding so stop your bashing yearning.

Kind of like your constant having to reply to anyone that posts anything negative about SR. Or the fact that you have to constantly defend it. Hypocrissy. Look it up and learn the word before you post such things as you did above.

You know, it is written as plain as day. I will let you in on something. See, someone who used to be a Singer defender until the movie came out, and theh left the board in quiet disgust apologized to me before leaving. In their apology in IM, they let me know about what is going on. See these guys want this board to be a pro SR board, so they actively hijack every anti SR thread to get them removed, or to flood them with pro SR posts. they actually plan this stuff. If there is a thread they really dont like (ie the "I hate the suit" or "I hate hate the movie" thread") they hijack it. Even though there are sticky's stating clearly "if you like the suit don't post here" or "if you like the movie don't post here" they would feign ignorance and psot pro suit or pro movie stuff anyway. When confronted by a mod why they are in the "I hate thread" they would play stupid and say 'But I do hate. I hate the fact that there are people who hate the suit" or "I do hate. I hate people who hate the movie" and they would cause enough trouble and start fights to the point where the mods would close the threads. The mods are fully aware of what is going on, and the little things that they are doing. And trust me, they will deny it, call me paranoid and crazy, but this is directly from someone who used to be one of them. See, they are so desperate that they are compelled to do this. And it is really sick as I know that we who hate the movie don't do this stuff. I mean how pathetic is it do do that over a movie. And remember, following this post, they will post how I am lying and paranoid. But I have seen screen captures of the privates they had planning this stuff, and it is pretty pathetic if you ask me that they feel compelled to do this stuff. And what is really pathetic is they have been doing this since 2004.

It is also pathetic that they have to resort to covert, new low type of actions to defend a film. That they are compelled to defend it.

No.

So then why aren't the explanations simply accepted? Instead, too many Singer / SR champions feel a need to tell us why we're all wrong. I'm glad that some people liked the movie, I genuinely am. But I am truly sick of hearing why I should like it too. In fact, I've been driven from my Superman forum home because of it.

Oh, and Iron Man is making SR look so damn pathetic. What you see in the previews are what should have been in SR. And brought in on a budget of anywhere from 135 mill to 186 mill

Even if "Iron Man" (which cost $135 million to make) grosses $50 million in its first weekend, it will be headed toward profitability and have everybody at Paramount and Marvel beaming.

With the budget over run on Valkerie, I hope they don't let Singer near the sequel.

Exactly. There is no civility about what is going on a lot of the time, which gets me going.

So then why aren't the explanations simply accepted?

Because they're called discussion boards?

Instead, too many Singer / SR champions feel a need to tell us why we're all wrong.

Count the number of detractors doing the same in every thread.

Nobody in here can place himself into the victim position.

I'm glad that some people liked the movie, I genuinely am.

And I would never stop someone from posting his disliking for the movie.

But I am truly sick of hearing why I should like it too.

As I am of hearing why I should dislike it too.

In fact, I've been driven from my Superman forum home because of it.

Well, opinions are opinions. You cannot think that the only way to stay in a discussion forum is if everybody agrees with you or the right number of members does.

I've seen members saying they liked the movie but they're gone because of the bashing.

As the mods say, nobody's forced to stay or read. But as long as people are not being insulting, flaming or trolling, their opinions are valid to be expressed.

The bold part was referring to people who liked the movie. You're in a thread about fans who DON'T like the movie. I'm just wondering why anyone would come in here if they liked the movie. Not judging you...just wondering.

I didn't mean to jump on you. It just seemed from your post that you implied that. I apologize and I'm finished arguing. Once again...I have to ask...what did you expect from this thread? X-Maniac doesn't like the movie, so he's voicing his opinion just like everyone else is in here. He didn't like the movie just like a lot of people in here didn't. If you really read your post, it was sort of implying that the negative opinions don't matter just because the movie got critical praise. I was clearly wrong, so once again I apologize. Now that that's finished....is there anything you didn't like about this movie?
