Why is downloading so taboo here?

Exactly. If you don't like the story such as Ultimatum. If you still download it you screwed over David Finch, the inker and the colorist. It's just not the writer who gets ****ed over. -___-

I see downloading movies, music, comics, etc. as the same as borrowing a friend's copy of said item and watching/listening to/reading it, or should that be illegal too?

The difference is, your friend PAID for it. It's not the same thing. Download all you want to, I don't care, but know you're stealing.

And knowing is half the battle.

So you're saying you download Loeb's stuff even tho you don't like it? Are you forgetting the pencillers, inkers and colorists who also worked on the comic? :cmad::doh:

It's either d/l or beg you guys for a summary of each issue. I just refuse to pay for it anymore

But if you weren't gonna buy it in the first place then nobody gets "screwed over".

If I bought everything I read, I'd be a poor man. And I'm already dropping $30-$50 each week on average

So you just steal then? Thats fair.

The whole point of previews and reviews is that you can from those decide whenever to buy it or not. Nothing justifies that you just outright steal.

Hey man there is worse things than stealing. Like listening to the Jonas Brothers, making donations to the Saddam Hussein Remaining Family Members Fund and eating bacon with maple syrup.

What's wrong with eating bacon with maple syrup? I mean, if i'm eating pan cakes and bacon and some syrup gets on the bacon, i'm not gonna throw it away. It's f**king Bacon. :o

But somebody DID pay for it, how else were they able to scan it to put it on the internet? They just have a lot of friends.

And if I'm stealing, which I wouldn't consider it to be, it's not a big deal to me. When all is said and done, it doesn't mean a damned thing.

And maple syrup on bacon is good dammit! :cmad:

I think there is a middle line with the downloading thing. You can make an argument either way to support your line of thinking. On one hand people do work for a reason. Even if the story is trash, the creative team is doing this for a living, so they need to be supported. You also have the fact that the comics industry isn't as booming as it once was, and new readers are dwindling in numbers. The saying "support the industry" really carries weight here.

On the other hand comics are very expensive. It's nice to support the industry when you can, but sometimes things just get so damn hard on your wallet that you do what you gotta do to keep up with the stories. Couple that with the fact that there are way too many crossovers that are heavy on your wallet even further, and you've got yourself a downloader. I know people say, " Oh but you don't have to read every issue in Marvel's 1459683th crossover this year." Well that may be true, but it you could read them for free you'd probably do it as opposed to spending an extra $30 this month to keep up with the story. Either you're going to split buying the noteworthy issues with a friend or friends, or y'all are going to go find it for free.

The good thing is that Marvel does have a cheap digital comics site that gives you a ton of access to stories for only $10 a month. That's not bad when you need to catch up on things. You can support the industry without spending too much to keep from getting left behind. Of course you can't blame this site for not wanting people to talk about downloading. They're just covering themselves, so it's no harm as long as it's kept to PMs.

I don't download comics. Mainly because I haven't figured out how to use Torrents yet. :o

Bacon...and maple syrup? That **** is just nasty. You have sugar with your steak too?

:D

I rarely eat steak at any rate. Cows are disgusting animals.

They sure taste good though! Nice and rare, so I can mop up the blood with my chips and onion rings.

After taking Parasitology, I will only eat uncooked food for two reasons.

1) I'm starving and I need to.
2) I forget that I said this.

:funny: I eat uncooked food all the time. Raw bacon, raw eggs, raw potatoes, raw chicken. And I'm ok.

Many internal parasites are non-pathogenic. They don't want to kill you because you're such a great place to live.

I'm not saying it's not stealing, just that nobody's getting screwed over like you think.

That Trichinella is scary stuff

This is the same site that censored the letters LSP (Le Soft Parade) for awhile. I don't expect too much sense in what they do here.

You guys are amazing. "Who cares? It's only stealing. It's not like anybody getting hurt."

Yeah, the economy is bad. Comics are just too expensive. I can steal 'em instead. Wait...I don't have a car to get to the comic store. I better steal a car, just cuz, ya know? I should be able to have one. A Neon though, because, Neon's are crappy anyway and they DESERVE to be stolen because they're not worth paying for."

and all hail BACON & MAPLE SYRUP !!

Downloading comics isn't the gateway drug you're trying to make it out to be. If I GTA any cars in the near future, I'll be sure to let you know.

I know that you meant that partially in jest, but nobody's putting a gun to anybody's head making them buy the product, so nobody's stealing your money, as you have made it perfectly clear that you're avoiding the more expensive comics....

Though it would be nice to have some kind of breakdown as far as what's considered a cost and what's profit when it comes to comic prices...

Then I should reword the concern... they aren't stealing my money, they're stealing away my stories and the enjoyment I used to get from them.

Better?

And Hobbit, you're telling me that when, whatever, Trading Places is on VH1 and all the swear words are edited out, you enjoy that better?? You'd rather see Eddie Murphy say "Kiss my hand" than the way it was originally meant to be. That's crazy talk. That's when the terrorists win. Sorry, but I hate censorship with a passion. I'm an adult and I can handle "dirty" words. I don't need anyone telling what I can or can't see or hear.

Actually, yeah, I would enjoy that more. There's movies that I like but won't buy (I've actually never downloaded a movie) due to the language (typically... Iwon't buy Rated R... or even watch) but still, if I find out they're on tv and edited, I'll DVR them so I have them in a way I prefer to watch them.

I can handle cursing and such, I just don't like it.

And come on, you have a free copy on your hard drive but you're gonna buy it anyway? Sure you are. :whatever:
You're making a blind assertion here. Do you think reviewers don't buy comics too, just cuz they get free copies? People read digital copies (legal or otherwise) because they love comics. So if they're good, they'll buy 'em. Just like with music.
The only difference is, with music you can hear it beforehand and then buy it, whereas with comics, before digital I'd spend $50, go home and realize $20 worth of it was crap.
Now my process is, read my review copies, wait til whole storylines hit tpbs (my preferred format) and then buy what i liked. That way marvel gets rewarded for the good work they've put out, and i don't get screwed again by buying something where they put out a couple issues then with a couple years before finishing it... or don't bother ever finishing it at all (New Universal).

Don't get me wrong, I download music too. But I know it's stealing. I just don't care. But don't try to justify it, call it what it is.
Debating tip: Admitting hypocrisy rarely results in victory :cwink:

You are joking right? Do you know how much Die Hard sucks without the cursing?

F**k Die Hard, try watching Good Fellas or Casino, or Friday.

"You motha freak!"

"You got knocked the HECK out!"
