why is the fortress dead?

What will Clark do without Jor-El's concil?

Find out again next week.

Same Supe-time. Same Supe-channel.

Mayeb this another one of Jor-El's tests?

I liked it that it seemed that jor-el gave up what little was left in the FOS to save Lois and Martha...

He's not such a bad guy after all.

So how will the Fortress be revived?

that's too far-fetched for smallville.

If Raya was one of the beings that escaped the PZ then maybe she could help Clark resurrect the Fortress.

I loved how Jor-el was speaking really slowly in his scene with Martha, showing us that the fortress was running out of power.

guess it would have been a bit too much if he'd started singing:
"Daisy, Daisy, Give me your answer do...I'm half crazy, all for the love of you..."

Why do I know that song?

(probably because I'm old. :p)

Actually, its because you are young!

Us old fahrts remember HAL9000 in Kubric's 2001 A Space Odysey (sp?) that sang it (while slowing down) as 'Dave' worked feverishly on disconnecting him.

"Daisy, Daaaiiiiiissssssyyyyyy, gggiiiiiiiiiivvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeee mmmmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee yyyyyyyyyyooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrr annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr tttttttttrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrruuuuuuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...."

(still never really understood the whole star child thing)

Well, I figure the fortress acts as a door to the phantom zone. In one episode, Brainiac used a black crystal that I believe was a part of himself and had Clark jam it into the console. The place went nuts, started collapsing I think, and Zod began to emerge.

So maybe when Brainiac was stabbed with the dagger, he made another connection to the fortress, and this time succeeded in destroying it, thus giving Zod a window of opportunity to escape.

Jor-El will be back. He said the following to Martha:

"The dagger is part of this fortress, plunging it into Fine destroyed all copies of him but it also damaged this structure and released Zod"

He said damaged, not killed or destroyed or anything of that nature. If the fortress is only damaged, my guess is that Jor-El will be gone for the time being while the fortress repairs itself but once it's back to 100% Jor-El will return

I also think that Fine might turn up at some point as well because Jor-El did say that the dagger destroyed all copies of him, so the original might still be out there

Were'd we hear that at?

And I figure the Fortress is "dead" for the time being cuz...it helped to hammer home that feeling of "the times, they are a-changin'" at the end of the episode. It wasn't completely random. As it's been pointed out, things were kinda...effed at the FOS after the S5 finale, evident in Martha and Jor-El's scene. The FOS will be back. Considering how important a role it played from time to time in S5, it needs to step out of the way for a bit to remind us...this isn't S5.

James Marsters said it, or one of the producers said it
someone, somewhere, brought up Marsters returning

besides, Fine is the one who crashing Martha's plane and then vanished...

As posted in another thread, when Lionel is sketching out symbols, one looks very much like the Erdaicator from the comics. I think THAT is what will bring the Fortress "back to life". Right underneath it, he writes out POWER.

Coincidence? Time will tell......

Hmmm. Point out where and I'll believe it. Last I checked, a bunch of us were still hoping that Marsters would come back. Hoping...not "waiting for his return this season".

Also...

Jor-El said that when Clark turned the dagger on Fine, it destroyed all copies of him. Hence the non-appearance of any copies of Fine after the plane went down.

I think that all thats left of Fine, Brainiac and the Ship is that half a piece of the hard drive that Lex has a hold of.

He could just find the main crystal, that he threw to make the fortress and throw it again. Sort of like Superman 2.

I think the power source for the Fortress went dead, hence Lion-El's "Power" quote towards the end. The symbol kind of looked like the Eradicator to be honest, so I bet sometime in the future, Clark will find the Eradicator which would let them "restructure" the Fortress like the writers/producers want without the influence of the Returns movie.
