It says 2 hours and 40 minutes, but that's like 10 minutes for the credits. So literally just 2.5 hours long.

It could have easily been 2hrs 45 mins to say the least. With a max of 3hours. Lord of the Rings pulled this off, so did Titanic. You can't tell me fans would have complained. Studios wouldn't have complained. There were showings as late as 2 am and as early as 9am for the film.

I'm hoping A4 will be the 3 hour film we need.

I agree. I believe it could have slowed down a bit and added more back story to Thanos, rather than speed along his history. Another 10 minutes would have been more than enough time to elaborate.

Perhaps the Russos had enough story told for the time chosen for this film and didn't want to or felt there was nothing more to add. Nothing that wouldn't just amount to deleted scenes or something like that.

Personally, I think that an extra 20-30 minutes added to the story to incorporate Thanos attacking Xandar, more of Team Cap and Wakanda, and some more of Thanos's backstory wouldn't have slowed the film down much at all. I've seen the movie three times in theaters and those two and a half hours just fly by.

^This.

It could have easily been 15-20mins longer. Focusing on Cap and his team as well as Wakanda and some other bits passed along to perfection.

A good movie is exactly as long as it needs to be. A bad movie can not be short enough

If the run time on this was three hours or over, that would stop a decent amount of people going. Not us nerds over here that would love that. But let's be honest, if you're not hyped for a film, that run time would scare a lot of people off.

Correct. And those wishing for a few more expensive action sequences are being downright silly. They were always going to have just enough action that they were willing to afford and not one more. Every additional dime spent would decrease their profit.

I had hoped for 15 minutes more of character interaction than we got but I never expected more action than they showed us.

Too bad they wouldn't just this one time give an extended edition of added "inexpensive" character stuff which I am certain they did script and shoot. But even that would cost money to finish.

The only way we'd see an extended cut is a double dip where they get us to buy it twice.

I don’t see any reason why we need to see the attack on Xander. It would literally add nothing to the story or Thanos’ character.

I wish people would get over it.

That would have been too long.

Or they thought so.

Simple as that. My impression is that the pacing is quite good, actually. It never dragged for me, and there was definitely a crescendo effect.

Not perfect, I might quibble with a couple of things, but basically the film took a very challenging concept and made it work.

I think it had the perfect length. Yeah, team Cap didn't get much to do, but that's just how this story was. They had smaller parts and got enough screentime to tell their story.

Us fanboys would love a 3 hour cut but a lot of fair weather general audience members might skip it for that.

Ignoring whether the audience would skip it if it was over 3hrs, I am of the opinion that you should never cater your movie to a run time. The story needs to play out in the best manner possible, no matter what the run time ends up being. The 3hr cut of this movie no doubt would have been slower, and I think the way the film is paced is intentional. The movie just has such an energy about it that slowing it down too much would have hurt it overall.

They could have use an extra 10 - 15 minutes to do the Black Order more Justice. Such a shame.

The Black Order were never meant to be major characters. They served their role in the story just fine.

They did fine with Ebony Maw and Cull. Just thinking that Proxima and Corvus deserve to be more of a threat.

Honestly, I really want to have an Avengers movie with Black Order being the main villian before encountering Thanos.

That was never going to happen, amigo. The Black Order are new characters and were just meant to be henchmen with a face. They served their role. We were never getting more from them.

I can’t imagine how having 10-15 minutes of the black Order having character moments over a cup of coffee would have helped this movie.

Because the writers and directors were going for a specific pace and story and they only wanted 2.5 hrs

How? Titanic was 3hours, each Lord of the Rings was 3hours.

That didn't hurt their box office. They still played to crowded seats and multiple showings per day. The people want their Avengers and would have still gone to see if it was 3hours.

All I'm saying is adding another 20mins to the film could have done wonders. Heck, even 10 mins.
