OK, the timing of this thread is a bit...inconvenient considering my current "argument" with Nintendo fans in the Misc. Games forum, but aaah, screw it.

I'm at my parents' house for the holidays and just today I saw my little sisters playing Wind Waker on my Gamecube I gave them about a year ago when I moved out and having a blast. Considering the fact that my earnings and savings are more than good enough, some kind of big brotherly love is making me feel all guilty inside that I have the latest high-end expensive tech in my PC and laptop, not to mention my PS2 and 360 attached to a HD home theater system while my kid siblings play on an outdated console.

Though my local game store clerk failed to convince me to purchase a Wii for myself even after allowing an extended playtest, it seems like a pretty good gift for the sisters.

So I went ahead and just called the store and reserved a Wii console and a few games. The store will be getting the extra controllers on Wednesday and since my sisters primarily love multiplayer, I can't purchase the console without those extra controllers, thereby giving me time to think over the specifics of my purchase.

My questions:

1. The games I'll be getting are Twilight Princess, Wii Sports, Rayman and Super Monkey Ball. Should I susbtitute Rayman or Monkey Ball with Red Steel? Or do you have a better recommendation?

2. It seems that the Wii-mote and the nunchuck are sold separately. So when I buy extra controllers, will I need to buy them both? Or is it just better?

3. Do all Wii games use both the nunchuck and the Wii-mote or are there only specific titles that do? Out of the games I'm planning to purchase, how many utilize the nunchuck?

4. It appears the Wii is backwards compatible with GC games. That's a great thing. My sisters' GC collection will not go to waste. But seems like the GC controller doesn't work on the Wii and the Wii's controller doesn't have as many buttons. So how do people play GC games on the Wii? I heard some information about a "classic" controller for the Wii but don't know the details.

Any help would be appreciated.

RED STEEL is pretty average... Depends on how you like it really. try and play it in the shop for a few minutes to decide.

You only really need to buy the Nunchuck with the Wiimote if you have multiplayer games that need the nunchuck (Like RED STEEL). Its best to have an extra Nunchuck anyway.

Twilight Princess uses the Nuchuck. Wii Sports uses the Nunchuck for Boxing. Rayman uses the nunchuck too. It looks like most games will use the nunchuck. Things like racing games only use the Wiimote.

The CG controller works on Wii (along with the wavebird). The GC controller works on GC Games, N64 games and somer of th other Virtual Console games. The classic controller is mostly used for the NES, SNES and SEGA Virtual Console games

This page shows you what controller works for what systems games.

Actually I did play Red Steel and didn't really like it. But I'm not buying the system for myself. It's for my kid sisters who are not really big on gaming. Even though the game itself appeared to be mediocre at best, there was a certain novelty to it thanks to the controls and I think it wouldn't be a bad purchase for someone who's just starting to get their hands wet with a Wii. Although I'm still leaning more towards Super Monkey Ball because so far the reviews seem to suggest it as the better game.

I personally thought Monkey Ball was really hard to control single player, and I thought multiplayer was dull. But for someone younger, they could like Monkey Ball's multiplayer.

I'd scrub Rayman and go with Zelda, Monkey Ball and Excite Truck.

You'll just need one extra Wii remote, no nunchuk.

I've been having some concerns about that. If you look at the way Nintendo has concealed the Cube controller ports with those plastic flaps, I'm not so sure the Wavebird wireless transceiver would fit all the way into the port, because the flap would block the bulky frame.

If your sister is into the whole multi player aspect, then Rayman would be a safe bet, since it's main focus is mini games wrapped in a story. Most of the mini games are multi player, plus it's really fun and funny to boot.

Rayman is an extremely fun game. Redsteel is awful

1. Coming from a family with 4 sisters, I'm pretty sure your sisters will like Monkey Ball a lot more than Red Steel...especially if they're into multiplayer games.

2. & 3. Some Monkey Ball games use the nunchuck and you'll end up eventually buying a nunchuck for each Wii Remote you have so might as well get it now.

4. Don't get rid of those GC controllers if you sell the GC.

Or hold back on one game and get WarioWare on Jan.15. Multiplayer game, with over 200 minigames, check the thread in this forum it has some clips of the gameplay. Its the number two most wanted Wii game in Japan which just had their launch.

There is where you connect your GC controllers and memory card.

The classic controller is for the VC games from SNES, N64, Gensis, and TG16.

Also, you don't need to buy a 1GB SD card for the Wii. The saves are very small so you won't need an SD card at all for some time.
