Wii launch date and price confirmed!!!

Microsoft has denied a price drop for the 360. It looks more likely they'll upgrade the Premium version to include 3-months gold, PGR3, and I think an arcade game. Even if they drop the price, it'll be $200 for the Core (the set no one wants or buys) and $300 for the Premium; so the Wii still has the edge, albeit a small one.

Releasing the Wii so close to the PS3 is not going to be fatal. The Wii is half the price of the ****ty $500 version and more than a third the price of the better version. The gap is too big to cause a negative impact on the Wii.
At most, Xbox would drop its price 50 bucks. I mean, come on, they cant afford to lose that much money:o

At this point, it's unlikely they'll drop their price at all.

THey're Microsoft. :p

They haven't earned a penny from the Xboxes since the original Xbox launched.

And for the couple billion they've lost on the Xbox brand thus far, they've earned tens of billions through the rest of the company. If they wanted to they could sell the Premium at 200 dollar and it woudn't put a detremental dent into the company. They're one of the few companies in the world whos problem is too much money.

But even if they drop the price of the Core by 50 dollars, ro 100, it's still not fully functional compared to a Wii.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the hard drive required for online play with the 360? And it costs 100 dollars anyway.

No, but the hard drive is so necessary for everything else :\

Well you'd need a memory card + an Xbox Live Gold Accoount, looking at the prices of the subscriptions, even if the core did drop down to 250, there's a bill to foot if you want to go online and play those games or save them for that matter.

Anyway the Wii is fine at this price, though it's not really saving anything with the 'bundle' they've chosen to go with because it's the eaxact same price as a Wii in Japan + what Wii Sports would retail for.

Yeah. I was hoping for a couple of downloads, but this "bundle" is fine at its price. The only thing that really bothers me (aside from not being able to purchase a black Wii at launch) is the price of the controllers. I just wonder how effective the GC controllers are going to be on the games not requiering the nunchuck.

The problem is that everyone just got their hopes up that it would be 200 or less, when Nintendo never promised that. They said it would go above 250 and it didn't.

I'm loving this bundle though, and it comes with Wii Sports, which many of us said it should. Plus their is more to Wii Sports than just the originally announced games, which is awsome. :D

You don't need a memory card if you get the Premium. If you get the Core, you're ******ed. For $60 more, you get 320x the space.

Thanks guys. I mean, I already knew this and the fact that Microsoft can afford to lose money on its consoles in the long run, but hey, at least you guys got to show off how much you know. Congrats:up:

The point was Microsoft would probably only decrese their system's price by $50 at first. That's enough to distance itself from Sony's pricetag. And isnt it going down in price about that much in Japan anyways?

My comment was directed at Zenien's "They can afford to lose money" comment.

Yes... You better have like 500 Little mentoks running around on your Wii Blas

My Wii will be chock full o' Mentok....how is that not awesome? :(

Sounds like I made love to it while you were distracted :(

Did anyone preorder anything yet? I just preordered Zelda, because Eb Games said they're calling people 24 hours ahead of time to let them know when they are putting the Wii up for preorder. Only for people who preorder a game though.

I called a little over a week ago. They weren't taking preorders for TP on Wii or the Wii itself. I'll have to call this week for an update.

I had Zelda pre ordered on the cube since last November & I hated Navi with a passion in OOT. So I am sticking with the cube version of TP. I will wait to get Wii version during the first price drop

Yeah, I was EB last friday. We can pre-order games, but not the actual console yet due to some company legal work. I believe they said that mid october everything would be good to go.
