Michael Keaton and the TLC references made the movie for me. I loved it. 8.7/10

This movie was pretty badass...as a comedy and as an action film! It reminded me of a very slightly toned down modern day Naked Gun movie. I want sequels! Will Ferrell also showed a slightly new comedic persona in his character in the movie. I was rolling at his whole Lions vs Tunas thing near the beginning..

Same here, that had to have gotten the biggest laughs out of the audience at the showing I just got back from.

I also agree that the TLC quotes from Keaton were great. My buddy was saying it might be coming out subconsciously if Bed Bath and Beyond had some of those songs playing on the speakers. I used to work at Home Depot years ago and they would have one of those music channels on all the time.

I really loved how Will and Mark played off each other and was also glad, as others have already said, that Will wasn't playing as dumb and childish of a character as he tends to do most of the time.

4/5

In order from that director's comedies.

1. Anchorman
2. Step Brothers
3. The Other Guys(still up in the air if I like it more than Step Brothers though)
4. Talladega Nights

just saw it...
sorta confused at how this movie has such a high rating..

for the most part i did enjoy it and laughed throughout..
but the movie was strange, it was just all over the place. One minute it felt like a normal buddy cop comedy but then shifts into Naked Gun type ridiculous comedy.. and back and forth.

the recurring jokes were not funny at all... (TLC, will farrell dating hot chicks, peacock, etc.) The old lady scene should've just been a deleted scene. But the movie fires so many jokes in one minute that at least one of them is bound to be a hit.

The ending was just completely not satisfying. With all the recurring plot moments through the movie i thought they would somehow tie-up at the end. but the finale just fell flat (That evil lady in the short black wig was setup then at the end we see her on the ground shot). I figure alot was cut from the end being the movie was already too long.

very strange credits too...

make sure you stay after the credits.

Thats around the same score I gave it.

Another thing I love and this should be done by more comedies, is that they played some of footage in the commercials were gag reel footage. I'm glad they didn't put in some of the film's actual dialogue.

And once again, I'm a little confused at why some people think it was back and forth. As I said, the beginning of the film does a great job at setting up the tone of the rest of the film. I never felt a shift in tone and it was pretty ridiculous the whole film. It was obvious that this wasn't going to be a normal or realistic movie.

Well xwolverive...all the scenes I found the funniest...especially the old lady scene you didn't like...so your answer to why it's so highly rated is most people thought the tlc moment etc. were freakin brilliant

Yeah, just that kind of stuff we've never really seen before in comedies. That they actually take their time. It's a risk to drag them out, but it just gets funnier in this film. Like the lions/tuna argument. I was dying from laughter. The fact that it went on and worked made it great.

And when I went driving with my dad, he mentioned to creep up more at the stop sign. I couldn't help but think back to Michael Keaton and the TLC reference.

I hadn't even noticed until my gf told me but in the bust at the end when Keaton is up above with some of the other cops, he's still wearing his Bed Bath & Beyond apron. :hehe:

I was also cracking up when
it has a closeup of Keaton sounding like he's talking to cops about to go out and kick some ass, then it pans back and he's motivating the BB&B workers.

spill.com really tore this movie a new one...

I guess they just had totally different or very high expectations for this movie..

I either completely agree with Spill or not at all. This is my new favorite comedy behind Get Him to the Greek.

Has anyone else been listening to TLC songs lately besides me? That is one effect this movie has...don't go chasing waterfalls.

Usually they go harder on a movie when it's just Korey and Co-Host reviewing..

lol...I thought the TLC gags were great...

and JEEZ....Michael Keaton isn't aging too well. Just imagine what he must look like without makeup...

Well, Land of the Lost was an aberration because Will Ferrell is back at #1.

I have not seen this movie yet, so I don't know if it's better than Step Brothers, which is memorable for "Boats and Hoes."

If there's one significant negative about this movie, it's Mark Wahlberg..

He's never done this kind of full-on (intentional) comedic role before and it showed in his acting...I'm not saying he was bad, but I guess there are a few scenes where you could tell he wasn't necessarily able to pull off in a naturally comedic over-the-top way.

I can see that a bit but you have to remember he's supposed to be a more serious guy who wants to go out and see some action.

Personally I thought he did a fairly good job. Although it was an under the waist shot which means it probably wasn't him doing it, that ballet scene was funny.

I also had no idea Ray Stevenson was in this and who was the blonde? She looked like Anne Heche but I don't think she's listed as being in the movie. I could have sworn it was her.

It looked like the chick who was in that Harrison Ford film and never appeared in a film again and then thought she was a lesbian.

i agree with mark wahlberg being miscast... i wasnt sure sometimes if he was playing it straight or if he was supposed to be as ridiculous as farrell's character. At least will farrell stayed in his ridiculous character throughout.

my funniest scene is easily when will farrell and mark are parked at night and the couple is still running after them for 20 miles ..lmao didnt see that coming.

Really? I didn't notice that. :hehe:

"Hey, we GOT A DEAD GUY OVER HERE!"

I just loved his TLC references.

Imagine Keaton's character listening to this makes it even funier. :hehe:

just saw it this afternoon.....a lot better than I was expecting

The thing is, the fact that Wahlberg was in this movie is what got me interested to begin with. Since its so unlike his usual roles...

And I thought he did a pretty decent job.

I also liked how Hoitz thought his ex-girlfriends ballet studio was a strip club and she was dancing for dollars...

:hehe:

It was nice to see The Rock cuss up a little storm near the beginning there.. :p
