They seem to like the Mecha genre in Japan, I wonder if the Iron man movie will do well there?

Not unless Tony Stark catches his enemies in Pokeballs.

Iron Manu :)

Iron Man has plenty of fans in Asia, for sure.

No, the Japanese don't like robots and things of that sort.

The Japanese are gonna love him I hope.

I think it will be huge there I was actually talking with my boyfriend about this. We are both huge Kamen Rider and Sentai fans, and Iron Man definitely fits into the ever popular Tokusatsu(Special Effects) fandom.

IF you've never seen Kamen Rider it is awesome-sauce, here are some clips from the most recent series.

The kids that love this stuff will definitely be loving Iron Man trust me. :woot:

No it won't be that popular. Transformers is much much more popular there yet it couldn't even do $80+ million as lot expected. It did $45+ million.

Of course they'll love it, infact they have had an Ironman franchise long before we have!

Tetsuo - The Iron Man

Very unsettling movie btw. It's "out there", like a lot of alternative Japanese stuff.

International audiences eat up super hero movies/big budget Hollywood films. If this is good, then I don't see why it wouldn't do good.

The only way I could see it not doing well in Japan, or anywhere else in the foreign market would be if there was something gratuitously offensive in nature toward Japanese or who have you.

Also cultural differences may very, but one of the more successful branches of globalization is American media, which, despite the tons of crap it puts out has very many gems, and a heck of a lot of visual splendour that people eat right up.

Not many people go to the movies in japan though, its very expensive. That's good when you consider that.

Ok I was wrong. Transformers did 34+ million in japan. Not even 45 million.

still you aren't factoring in that price difference between US and Japan in terms of tickets, what would be considered a success is different over there, because the tickets there are far more expensive there, then over here.

That's because Bayformers is a pile of s*** and the Japanese know it unlike stupid Americans.

When I lived over there the cheapest thing to do was shop at 100 yen stores (Dollar stores). The theartre near where I lived was about $15 usd to see a movie, I went to the movies twice in the three years I lived there. Since I shared a box with 4 (Seriously this apartment was so tiny my bedroom now is bigger than that apartment was) other people it was easy to save up money and go and do things. I loved it there. :D

Gawd, I used to love Kamen Rider when I was in K-school. :o

Mandarin's future scheme will no doubt involve unleashing an ancient evil from a pokeball...an evil called....

Since the movie has been just released in Japan, I thought I would bring back this thread. Does anyone know how's its doing over there?

I think it did like 2M in it's 1st weekend. I don't have any reference as to whether that's good or bad in Japan.

I have been hoping that Japan can close the WW gap to $600M, but I don't know how likely that is. IM would need about 28M from Japan to do that.

There should be a huge jump in IM's earnings soon. The worldwide gross hasn't moved in a few weeks now, according to Boxoffice mojo.

Ouch, thats a lame number. I didn't expect records or anything but I expected better numbers than that. TDK did like 3 million in it's opening weekend...maybe people in Japan just aren't going to the movies alot now...I don't know just throwing something out there.
