What are your thoughts? Clearly they want to keep the Ultimate line going, but they've killed off 95 % of its prominent characters. Do you think they will deus ex machina it, if so, how?

How will they "Deus ex Machina" it? The plotline has been resolved.

That doesn't mean it can't be reversed. Captain America having his soul transferred to a different time (or whatever the hell is going on there) happened 2 years after he was "killed."

A Deus ex Machina is a convenient and inconsistent end to a particular story. Since Ultimatum is over, and concluded, then the possibility of a Deus ex Machina is no longer in play. Ultimatum is over.

I was unaware that plots in comics could not be reopened or revisited. Especially considering that the ultimate universe as a whole is one, long story, it can be deus ex machina'd at any time provided that Marvel does not stop publishing the Ultimate line. But really, aren't we just debating semantics? Get on topic. :cmad: :cwink:

I dunno, with the way Loeb killed the characters I can't see a way to bring them back asides from Wolverine that would be incredibly stupid.

It won't be pretty, but its almost bound to happen at some point. I could see it happening through the use of Ultimate Beyonder or some such nonsense. After all, the books still sell and as long as they make money, Marvel will want to milk it.

Well, with the way the line looks now isn't more than likely that they'll just end it?

I thought a DeM was a person with convenient powers who solved the comic crisis way too easily.

What can I say? I'm a master debater.

and a cunning linguist?

I'm sure there's gotta be a time traveler or time machine laying around they could use if they really wanted to. I don't care either way, as I don't read ultimate anymore, but if it's selling well, it'll stick around. Storytelling be damned!

Wolverine is pretty much confirmed to return. Mark Millar is bringing a new generation of heroes for some reason now. New Hulk, New Iron Man (Tony's Brother), New Black Widow (Fury's ex-wife), New Daredevil was spotted.... Rumour has it it's Elektra but i mean... Elektra is cool by being herself. =p

I love the Ultimate Universe and i'm sure Millar can find a way to make it appealing, i love the Red Skull he recently created. <3 (Oh and yeah, im a big fanboy of Millar as you can see haha)

Deus ex machina.

You keep using that term. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Since Ultimatum ended already, a deus ex machina cannot occur to bring about a particular ending. In order for a deus ex machina to occur for Ultimatum, they'd have to publish a new issue of Ultimatum to put it in. I suppose a deus ex machina can occur that could suddenly change the Ultimate Universe, but not the Ultimatum miniseries.

Jesus Christ. The question is "Will Marvel use unlikely, outragous plot devices to undo the undesired outcomes of their pervous storyline called Ultimatum." What's so hard about this?

The term he's LOOKING for is "retcon."

If you replace "deus ex machina" with "retcon," everything he's saying actually makes sense.

Yes but there's subtle soft retcon (Stark didn't fight in Vietnam, some old dead villain resurfaces without explanation etc.) and than there's the deus ex machina retcon with the subtelity of a rhino in a Nine Inch Nails T-shirt (One More Day, Jason Todd comes back thanks to Superboy reality punch).

I could see Scarlet Witch of Jean Grey undoing most of it.

As someone who actually liked the Ultimate books I wouldn't mind a ridiculous retcon if it meant seeing some of my favorites return. Mark Millar should be in charge of all of the Ultimate Marvel books. He's written some of the best stories to date in that universe.

If it kept him off of Marvel's main continuity, I'd be all for that.

I dunno. I'm playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 now, and it just keeps reminding me what a great concept civil war was. I wasn't that much into it when I was reading it but man, I should go back and reread. yes, it ultimatized the Marvel U a little bit, but I think the registration, the initiative, the attempts at government regulation of a crazy place like the 616 makes the comics a lot more exciting. I'm glad Millar writes in the main universe. (Yes sometimes he goes crazily over the top, like in Old Man Logan, but somehow I can enjoy the **** out of that one too, even if most characterisations don't really make sense - not well explained.)

I don't mind his ideas. Bendis' either. They just need someone to help them with those little minutiae like, oh, having characters behave in ways that make sense.

In time, death will become in Ultimate exactly what it is in Marvel.

Irrelevant.

I had some thoughts/questions about Ultimatum. I Wasn't going to bring up the story again but since someone else did, I might as well.

I suppose there could be some kind of retcon involving Rick Jones. What was it that happened at the end of Ultimate Origins with him? The Watchers choose him to be some sort of "Herald" or something, and he burst into energy in his backyard. And it was never mentioned in Ultimatum. Maybe it's suppose to be for some later storyline, but I just assumed Loeb didn't give a Sh** to collaborate with Bendis.

There was also some other weird part in Ultimatum right after Strange was killed by Dormammu. Some shadowy figure came up to his body and shined light on it, like he was going to revive him or something. But like the most of what happened in ultimatum, there was no explanation and it was forgotten. Come to think of it, what happened to Dormammu after he killed Strange? Did something seal him back up and I forgot about it? Or was it just forgotten by the next page?

Man Ultimatum sucked...

Isn't there supposed to be some Ultimate book Loeb is doing where Thor is like, God of Hel or something and all the dead heroes are there or something? I gotta tell you, I stopped paying attention to the Ultimate Universe when Loeb made sure to let us know once and for all that YES WANDA AND PIETRO ARE F**KING!

Indeed. No one like's overt incest. It should have stayed subtle. :o
