Superman Returns Will Superman Return again?

Either way is fine with me. Singer coming back to show us more of waht he has in mind or another director who has an idea to continue the franchise.

yes.....the Spiderman movies had a love story. But, unlike SR, in spiderman.....you could actually root for the guy and gal to get together.....you wanted the hero to get the girl.....

Also, unlike SR, the Spiderman pretty much got the character right.....the "essence" of Spiderman.....true....there were some changes......

but at least we didn't get a scene where Spiderman takes MJ for a swing around the city.....then takes her to the Brooklyn bridge........enlightens her on the mating habits of spiders......webs her wrists to the bridge so Spiderman can act out his S+M bondage fantasies.........then proceeds to make love to MJ....in costume.....as Spiderman....without telling her he's really nerdy Peter Parker.....shudders....

yah.....thank GOD we didn't get that......thank you Raimi........lol

hey.....we could always bring back Nuclear Man........

"Take me to the girl.....or I'll HURT people"

well.....at least the guy was an honest and straightforward villain....telling our hero exactly what he's going to do.......if only all villains were like that....heros would have a much easier time......

actually...if you think about it......the basic premise of superman 3 was computers taking over and wreaking havoc on our society.....well what superman baddie could have fit that role....hmmm.....Braniac!

And....superman 4 was basically Superman fighting a clone of himself.....well......who could've fit that role......Bizarro!

I don't know how Brainiac would have been back then, but now i could see it happeing for a sequel.

Damn Cameron.
Bless Raimi.

You know, if they had just used the design, Williams music, and accepted origon, and then had it not be a sequel, or requel, but just used those things so they didnt have to redo an origon it would have been better. And he said he cut out a lot of things close to release and you can really tell. I mean that opening shot of krypton smacks of being rushed.

I would like Singer to come back but if another director is chosen I hope he continues the SR story also..I really want to see what happens next.

JASON is part of the reason SR didn't have legs! The whole stupid kid aspect deeply divided fans and turned off many in the audience. Not to mention creates a headache for anyone doing a sequel and not wanting to deal with that turd Singer dropped. Richard Donner should be begged to helm the next film. At least he understood Superman. Heck, Superman II: The Donner Cut will probably outsell SR.

Yeah the donner cut will sell like crazy on dvd I know im gonna pick that up along with the new "special edition" of "A nightmare on elm street" coming out.
Both are tops on my list for future purchase... But I to will skip on Superman Returns... I Wont waste a single penny on Singers worthless movie.

*applauds*

wait... "No Kid?"

Takes back Applause... :(

I really enjoyed Returns. Some things I would've done differently, but I thought it was a fantastic movie. I would definately like to see Singer return to film the sequel. Will be interesting to what direction he takes it. I hope he does all the Superman films in this series, so we can finally have stable trilogy or fourology.

Maybe in a few years. Right now this drivel is still fresh. They need a public ****ing firing of Singer and a great director for the next go around.

For once, I'm in agreeance with you on something, man. I personally was looking forward to seeing the trip to Krypton and all of that stuff, but I'm willing to bet WB wanted to keep costs down because the reels were already huge for regular theaters...and for IMAX.

And everyone likes to ignore The Matrix sequels that I brought up. Each costing $150 million. If they can have Neo flying around and have great action sequences for $150 million, then there's no doubt that they can do the same with Superman.

You don't need $200 million to make an action packed movie.

Thank you for bringing this up.
I'll just summarise what i posted in the Box Office thread of SR.

It is true that you don't need 200 million for a action packed movie. However , certain factors to play a role with VFX.

- Type of VFX.
Creating for example gun battles shold be far more easier then creating a virtual human since you can relate to a human better. The emphasis on reality is very high with virtual humans and as such , the type of VFX determines just how much certain things are going to cost.
What also helps is when you have people who are innovative with camera techniques. Look at the first matrix movie. Every big VFX studio , from ILM to DIgital Domain couldn't figure out how to make those bullet time shots possible. They wouldn've just taken the hands on approach which is just animate to characters , you know with a completely CG neo and CG smith.
And then Gaeta comes along with his crew and creates the bullet time rig.
And you can the same shots with REAL ACTORS which is a huge , HUGE improvement. They had built these rigs for the matrix movies , and used a similar rig on the SR which could simulate realistic flying. But IMO that really wasn't used at all cause the bulk of the really intense VFX flying shots of Supes were are virtual. In the superbrawl of Matrix Rev., i can really only count the wide shots and 2 shots of smith charging at neo to be CG flying shots. All other shots were the stunt performers in the tuning forks shot against a blue screen.

- Time in delevering/developing the VFX
Owning a certain VFX studio does help you alot since you can basically push you're workers to deliver the VFX in a much faster timeframe. The VFX guys of WETA worked around the clock to deliver the VFX of ROTK.
Same with Matrix 2/3 where they had created their own VFX studio to handle the bulk of the 2000 VFX shots.
What also helps with outsourcing especially with companies at different parts of the world. Digital filming poses a great advantage cause for example you can shoot some blue screen work today in aus , give the images that same day to a VFX company in the US. And because of the time difference , while the crew rests for the day , the VFX studio in the states is already beginning with preliminary work.
Time plays a huge factor in creating good adequate VFX. With Matrix , they spent up to 4 years working on certain scenes. Burly Brawl cost 4 years to create , from early VFX tests to shooting , to the last scenes of animation.
WHen you force the VFX studio to deliver certain VFX which require lots of work and/or demand lots of realism within a short timeframe , then yes you need to pay up.

In short give the VFX studios the time to create something and you can technically make action packed superman movie for 150-170 million. Let them create their own VFX studio , because a) you can have the same crew again and b) improve on the technology that has been used on the movie. Also , try to reduce the timeframe in delivering VFX , cause you can spend more time in post-prod.
Spiderman 2 is a great example of how they enormously improved the looks , realism and movement of Spiderman are, as opposed to the first movie.
And with the sets already built , i would say that superman can bring it's cost down.

I dont want a sequel I want a re-boot.

Nah, that would make the movie too dark.

Well, not it a harsh way. Maybe by the hands of Luthor or by Brainiac who i want for the villain. I just can't think of seeing this movie knowing that the kid getting older....

August 14, 2006 - Warner Bros. is reportedly trying to seal a deal with Bryan Singer to direct a sequel to Superman Returns, but don't get too excited just yet over that news or by Singer's previous claim that the sequel could be ready by 2009.

At just under $200 million domestically, Superman Returns is considered an underperformer, although the film has yet to open in several international markets (although it hasn't done phenomenally abroad where it has opened). Bottom line: Superman's returns aren't strong enough to make a sequel a sure thing.

Nevertheless, industry speculation suggests that Warners has simply sunk too much money into the Man of Steel to ditch the franchise now, according to Variety.

If home entertainment and TV revenues are profitable then, Variety claims, "Warners and co-financing partner Legendary Pictures have a shot at breaking even on Superman once all the revenue streams are accounted for, but it's going to be a long, tough haul."

Although Warners denies it, the studio and Legendary are said to want any Superman sequel to come in at $200 million and below (Returns cost $225+ million).

"Negotiations between Singer and the studio would get delicate if Warners wants to include over-budget penalties," Variety reports. "Warners certainly can't wrest control away from a director like Singer, but it can try to make sure the budget stays under a certain level."
