Willow [Leaving Disney+ May 26]

Could a spin-off work if (relatively) nobody has seen the original though? It's not exactly Titanic. Maybe it would be better to remake the original.

Funnily enough I watched the original for the first time in about 20 years just a couple of days ago.

Willow was one of my favorite movies as a kid, if they have a story worth telling then it could turn out okay.

Bring it on, more Lucasfilm stuff the better. Ron'll be right in the zone right after Solo for it too, the classic movie-magic adventure headspace.

Yes, I'm excited for this! I own Willow on DVD and VHS. One of the best fantasy adventure movies ever.

.....Willow?

Is that a hot property people would get excited about a sequel for? And isn't it a little late? Who would even be in it?

Warwick Davis and I guess some upcoming new actress to play the kid grown up I would assume. Ron and LFL are probably better off playing the film as a fresh start than a full on sequel.

They could do it later on with Elora Danan being 21 and Willow being the wizard of his village.

I was a kid when I watched Willow for the first time. I couldn't decide who looked scarier - General Kael or Darth Vader. Twenty-five years later I still can't decide.

It's like Blade Runner. The original Blade Runner was actually a flop in cinemas, but the sequel Blade Runner 2049 came out came out last year and was.....also a flop. Okay, not a good example.

Thing about Willow is, although some of the action scenes are quite good, the battle scenes are atrocious.

Wasn't there a series of sequels written by Chris Claremont (x-men) and Lucas.?
Shadow War trilogy?
I remember reading the first sometime in the 90s.
Is that what they are basing this on?

I don't think it's as far down the line as that. Ron Howard just says there have been talks about doing another Willow movie.

Were those books any good? Lucas/Claremont sounds like a winning team.

You would think, although Madmartigan wasn't a part of it so that might stop you right there, it's about Willow and the girl [Lara?Edit:Elora] who is growing up.
I remember buying and starting the first based on the two "authors" names alone, being super excited (although I definitely knew about) I hadn't seen the film yet. And feeling - I don't really know (or care) what's going on here, ...so maybe I better see the film first.
Which I didn't get to till years later, so that didn't help, and I confess I never got back to finishing the book.

So yeah, that wasn't very helpful.:oldrazz:

Thanks for the info.

Thinking about it, although Willow obviously is in the fantasy genre and inspired by the likes of Lord of the Rings, it's not a plot-heavy epic - it's a typical Lucas action-adventure. There's enough plot for an exciting two hours, and that's all. Like Indiana Jones or Star Wars. So an epic fantasy book trilogy is maybe not the best place for Willow to continue. Comics might be better.

But that's just speculation as I haven't read the books.

I always thought the original movie was pretty crappy but I remember really enjoying the classic NES game. It was like Zelda with better graphics and more story.

Anyway, I'd probably watch a sequel if it was on Netflix or something but I don't think it's necessary.
