Hey guys, i just had to do a factory restore earlier today on my dell insprion e1505 with windows vista home edition. Well everything was fine when i did the restore, and i got programs back up that i had to put back on the laptop that wasnt their in factory built.

But then i came across a problem when i was trying first to get windows defender to update to newest definitions but it wouldnt. So then i clicked on windows update to redownload stuff from microsoft that needs to be downloaded. But i tried to start the scanner thing and after awhile i came across this error message: code 8000FFFF and windows update wont install any updates. I dont know what is up with that and last time i did a factory restore about a year ago everyone came back up and was good to go from the restore and i dont know what happened this time around. If any one knows what i should do that would be great.

I think i might have found the reason why windows update isnt working since i did the factory restore, i need to reinstall windows vista service pack 1 onto the laptop which it had before. Now just need to find a service pack 1 download link.

Ok so i decided to email microsoft tech support with my issue. I hope they can give me a fix that will work and i get windows update working so i can start installing the important windows updates, and then to get windows vista service pack 1 back on. Only other thing i was reading about is some registery files fix but i am not super tech savy and i didnt want to fiddle around with those things. If any one else has experienced the issue i have and found some other fix please post.

I suggest...on a machine restored doing the following IN ORDER
1) Drivers (if needed, from a restore partition, this is not needed)
2) Update Service Packs first, ignore all other updates.
3) Update more Services packs till they are all done, although I think Vista is on SP1 still
4) Update security patches
5) Update/Install AV

well that was the problem after i saw windows update not working at all, i was thinking maybe service pack one needed to be redownloaded first. But i tried to get it to download from microsoft website but it wasnt working. So the other day i finally just decided to email microsoft tech support, and they finally got back to me around an hr or so ago. With some potential fixs which i will try later in the day.
