I bought a wireless router recently, this one to be exact: SUPER-G WIRELESS ROUTER WGT624

Now, I have my comp and my Xbox360 hooked up to it. My 360 isn't wireless so it's plugged in right into the router. I got the wireless light on blinking constantly like it's supposed to but how do I know it's actually working? Stupid question maybe, but is there any way to test it that doesn't involve bringing in a wireless laptop or something like that? My Blackberry doesn't really seem to be moving any faster but that could be a settings issue.

Also, when I turn on my 360 and someone is online, there is major slowdown on both ends. I expected some slow down, but we're talking about complete freezing up sometimes. And other times, it works perfectly.

i'm guilty. i viewed this thread but i couldn't provide anything helpful cuz i don't know anything about routers :(
that's why i didn't make a post before.

So I'm gonna have my friend come over with his PS3 to see if it works. *******s, all of you. :csad:

Is your PC that's connected to the router set up to share it's internet connection? That could cause all of these problems you are seeing. It could also be related to the type of encryption you may (or may not be) using with the router. Best suggestion I could make is for you to check with the guys over at the Netgear forums for your router:

They get woodies over questions like this, so they ought to be able to help you.

Am I reading this correctly...

You have your PC and Xbox on it wired....
But nothing on it via Wireless...and you want to see if wireless is working?

Will do.

Pretty much, I know it sounds stupid, but I don't have a laptop or anything to test the wireless connection with.

Honestly...without some device, looking for a wireless signal and testing it...I don't think so.

Why do you need to make sure the wireless connectivity is functioning properly if everything is connected by cable?

Because I eventually want to buy the 360 wireless adapter, and before I spend $100 on it, I want to know if the damn thing works.

I'm sure it works fine, though it does sound like you have some oustanding configuration issues causing some problems (again, the Netgear forum guys would be ideal to talk you through that). But you'd best get your friend with the wireless laptop to come over and help you test the wireless connection because that's the only way you'll ever know it's working for sure.

Yeah, I want to get that fixed first. I mean, it works fine sometimes, my sis will be on the internet and I'll be on live playing and it will work fine. Then other times, it will just disconnect me from Live.

If you want to test your wireless i would just go on eBay and buy a cheap USB wireless adapter you can get one for like $5

thats what ive done in the past :)

I am more concerned with your issues of disconnection...
Describe that in more detail

I'll be connected to Live on my 360, most times, not even playing a game online but just playing a single player game. My sis will jump on the internet, we'll be fine for a few minutes, all of a sudden, it will say I'm disconnected from Live.

Does this ONLY happen when your sis gets on her computer?

Yeah, Live works perfectly when no one is on the internet.

Are any of the computers connected to the router set up to share their internet connection?

Yeah, to be clear, I only have one computer hooked to the router. And I did all the networking wizard stuff, test the connection and all that.

If that computer is sharing it's internet connection, it could be causing the problem you are seeing because when the computer comes online the Xbox is now getting signals from it over your internal network that it is providing internet access in addition to the connection your router provides, which could "confuse" the Xbox over which device it should be using directly for it's internet connection: your PC or the router. It could make your Xbox drop it's current connection and then get lost between the two competing internet connection providing devices, never really connecting to one or the other.

That's what I was thinking, so what steps do I need to take for that not to happen.

(When I say that's what I was thinking I mean the 3rd grade equivalent of what you just said.)
