Although this aphorism is particularly associated with a certain web slinger, it is a valid watchword for all of Marvel's heroes.

Rather than using their abilities to seize power and tyrannize over their country(and possibly humanity as a whole), Marvel superheroes( heroines seem uninterested in such things) have chosen to act as defenders and protectors not just of their native land but Earth as a whole!
Anybody think as I do?

What the...?

So basically you're saying that heroes act like heroes?

And that you're sexist?

The one exception to this assumed morality of Marvel's characters is, of course, Taskmaster. I love the fact that he realized he had powers and immediately figured "I should use this to make tons of money" without any thought of becoming a superhero. :D

Actually that would apply to Peter Parker too

Yeah, but he learned his lesson and all that junk. Taskmaster made a decision and stuck with it. :)

The full quote is "With great power, must come responsibility and also great sacrifice."

"Really? That's inane. Most people in life don't have great power, and the few that do are almost never responsible with it. The people who have the greatest responsibility are the kids with no power because we're the ones who have to keep everybody else in check."
--Gertrude Yorkes from Runaways..

Spiderman 3 taught me that using my power responsibly doesn't really matter... since whether I stopped a criminal from robbing a wrestling promoter or not, Sandman is still down on the curb killing my uncle.

But, I forgive him.

Sorry but if I had super powers, I think I would personally use them selfishly. Maybe the odd good deed if I came across the opportunity by chance but I'm not going to spend my life looking for trouble.

The whole notion of superheroes "patrolling" cities by flying on rooftops is one of the silliest cliches of the entire comic industry. Most serious crime happens indoors and out of sight.

It takes a strong will NOT to misuse superpowers- if you or I were as powerful as the Hulk, Thor or Hercules( or even Iron Man, Spider Man or Captain America) the temptation to use them for purposes of tyrannizing over your fellows is all but overwhelming!

Terry

As the newly transformed Ben Grimm said to Reed Richards- "we've GOT to use these powers for the well being of mankind!"

At this point, most superheroes spend the majority of their time fighting supervillains anyway, so that particular cliché seems to have died down.
