The Amazing Spider-Man 2 With Great Sequel Comes Great Lounging - Part 1

My MoS review:

Direction: Very good, for the most part. The handheld cam didn't bother me, although they should've eased up with the sudden zoom-ins whenever any kind of flying vehicle was shown.

Story: It was on par with BB, a discovery journey with a serviceable villain plot.

Screenplay: VERY problematic, disjointed. It made logical sense, but thematically it was incomplete, dare I say lazy. It was like a 2-hour montage of awesome scenes that never quite stuck. It's all there, it's just missing some glue.

Characters: Characters were fine. All of them. Superman underwhelmed me a bit because the theme of "choice" never stuck, so he never really made a choice. He wore the suit and he fought the bad guys. But he was really likeable and noble and optimistic, so it was Superman, so all is good. Lois had stuff to do, she was no damsel in distress, so no idea why she's getting all the flack. Even that chick Jenny was nice.

Themes: Hope and Choice. Not once fleshed out. Nature vs nurture never really played a part in characters' choices or anything. Really superficial, even by Goyer standards.

Performances: Cavill was great, as was Adams. I really liked Diane Lane and the 2 military men, as well as the Hamilton actor. Russel stole the damn show, I loved him so much. Special mention to the other females Ayelet and Antje, especially the latter and the former's cleavage. Costner and Shannon were sleepwalking through their roles, I have no idea why Shannon has inspired all this great villain talk. not even close to being top 10 in my book.

Cinematography: Top notch. Desaturated look clicked for me. The movie is gorgeous, and the fact that it was shot in film makes it even more so.

Music: Very very good and the more scifi parts of the soundtracks made for awe-inspiring moments. The heroic parts were somewhat subdued, though, for some reason.

Action: Top notch. Best ever in a CBM. Nobody will be able to touch it other than Snyder himself. Nothing more to say.

CGI: Excellent for the most part. Tbh, I didn't expect them to be SO good. Bravo.

Editing: The flashbacks weren't organically inserted in the main narrative, imo. It tried to be BB, but whereas in the latter the flashbacks were inserted strategically to maximize character development, story and themes, in MoS they're inserted in a "by the way" manner. The movie is choppy after Krypton and before Zod's arrival, but not necessarily in a bad way. I rather enjoyed Lois and Clark intercut in the latter's spaceship.

Overall: I liked it, I really really enjoyed it, but it's not reaching the genius levels of the Dark Knight Trilogy, imo. It is a good start for a Superman franchise and if they decide to **** it up by establishing a DCU, it's an even greater start. But Goyer will always need a Nolan, just like Gotham will always need a Batman. Thank God Jonah Nolan wrote the 3rd act, because that's when the movie shone, especially the ending, which took the movie a couple of notches up in my eyes. Superman killing Zod was one of the best ideas ever, and it has to take Superman to interesting places. I'm 100% behind their choice, Nolan was in the wrong to fight it, imo. I'm excited for MoS2, I jsut wish MoS was even better than it was. It's like... TASM, only (much) better. It does NOT deserve 55%. It deserves 75-80%.

7.5-8/10 (will decide on 2nd viewing)

I made a video review for the movie. Debating if I want to post it, as well as being too lazy to do it :p

I'm replaying The Last of Us which is pretty surprisingly because I never replay games after a week of beating them. I usually wait a couple months at most. Good job Naughty Dog.

^ Hah, that's funny you mentioned The Last of Us because I'm watching the Two Best Friends Play playthrough of it since I don't own a PlayStation.

What is up with people dressing up like Spidey and committting crimes

Just listened to Death Grips-The Money Store. Pretty sweet. If you enjoy punk rock I highly recommend it.

It doesn't look horrible, but it's something I wouldn't buy until it's $20 or below. It actually looks kinda fun but it also looks buggy as hell; not well polished.

To me it looks absolutely horrible gameplay wise. The graphics look awful as well. The only thing it seems to have going for it is the humour and tone, which I love from what I've seen.

They need to stop doing COD and focus on the quality of their other games and make others as well

I wouldn't say it looks horrible. Youtube isn't the best for judging graphics quality. The gameplay looks pretty standard for a beat 'em up but yeah, I'm not dropping $60 on this. Looks more like a rental or possibly a $20 pickup later on. I agree that the humor and tone is entertaining enough...sounds like Nolan North is Deadpool again.

I seriously hate Activision. Do they ever release anything that's a polished product?

So, I finally watched Iron Man 3 today. Man, I hope Man of Steel is better.

Depends on what you expecting from Man of Steel, dialogue/story, action or maybe both?. :o
Iron Man 3 was prety good superhero movie (twist didnt bothered me too much, but some people did). i never buyed or read iron man comics, so i was pretty much indifferent.

only comics i did buyed were Spiderman comics. So for money (allowance mostly) I spent on them and enjoyed reading them, I expect Marc Webb to not the **** up my childhood as Raimi did, specially with Mary Jane and Goblin (again).

I saw Man of Steel yesterday. Even if I think it's a great superhero movie (and an extraordinary Superman one), I have complaints about it.

Mainly [BLACKOUT]with Lois Lane. How is she always at the center of everything? She was at Canada because why not, she was kidnapped by Zod, she tried to drop a bomb from a freaking plane, she was at the station where Superman killed Zod... And all of this being a simple reporter. Amy Adams did a great job, but her character was written very poorly[/BLACKOUT].

But pretty good film, better than the critics make it seem.

So this Monday-Wednesday at AMC theatres, they'll be playing The Dark Knight Rises and the tickets are only $3 and its for autism research

Looks pretty good to me for an Activision game based on Deadpool.

Don't worry, it is.

I didn't mind that they made their Lois Lane that proactive...it adds a new level to Lois actually where she's in the game. The only nitpick with that that I could think of is why Faora brought Lois to the Black Zero besides it being just some plot device for her to take the 'S' key and to bring up Jor-El on the ship. It's said Faora read her mind, but she could have easily just read Kal-El's to know where his ship is at(and they did). Just one tiny little gripe I guess when I loved the way they wrote Lois. Hope to see her being proactive in the sequel as well.

I didn't read the entire spoiler tag, I saw that "Lois was proactive"

Now I don't mind that the love interest is proactive, as long as it's done in a tasteful way. It's slowly becoming almost a worse cliche than the kidnapped girlfriend. Ever since Iron Man 1 that has become a trend of sorts. In TASM it was done tastefully, Gwen helped with the science stuff and was just basically smart and resourceful but still fragile enough. Selina was already Catwoman so obviously that works. But in Iron Man 3 Pepper Potts was really obnoxiously empowered. The makers of IM3 seemed to pretend that the concept was totally original and brilliant. What makes it even more hilariously sad that they managed to do both obnoxious female empowering AND kidnapping of the love-interest :funny:

Finished watching The Crow for the first time, fantastic movie.

By the way, I hooked up into Arrested Development. Damn, that show is awesome, I understand why it has such a big cult following.
