The Amazing Spider-Man 2 With Great Sequel Comes Great Lounging - Part 6

Max Dillon looks like the stereotypical nerd, but he's probably in his 40s, so it makes sense for him considering he never really grew up.

Do people really want Peter to look like Dillon though? Dillon is way too extreme to be the stereotypical nerd.

Dillon is like Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker if he never became Spider-Man.

Peter's never been a bad looking guy. He just lacked confidence at first. Have you guys seen Rebel Without a Cause? I feel like Peter has always been similar to James Dean's character in terms of being a 'social outcast' and angst. Different circumstances, of course (Rebel Without a Cause is by no means a realistic look into teenage angst), but I think that connection can still be made.

Yes, I have! Rebel Without a Cause was amazing! :woot:
I feel like when I have my inevitable midlife crisis, I will turn to Lego again.

Now that you brought it up, The Lego Movie was awesome! :D

I like 60s Spider-Man wearing suits, it's classy
Although I don't like ties, and the jacket of a suit

I've been hearing great things about the Lego movie, so I'm def gonna check that one out soon.

Tonight though, I'm going to see Robocop.

He never looked that ridiculous. He was probably just as creepy about MJ as Dillon is about Spidey though.
Well that's why I said if Tobey's Peter Parker never became Spider-Man: he would grow up to be like Max Dillon.

Also, I was only half serious.

Cool! I hear it's good action. And fairly short as well. Seeing that next week. Post your review here!

Haha, looks like i was waaay off base when it came to Robocop's RT. I figured critics would judge it on its own merits, as they changed quite a lot from the original. Alas, they appear to have approached it with less of an open mind than I did, and I love the original.

I just have been burned so many times from bad reboots / remakes, and decided to leave any cynicism at the door when i entered the cinema.

Maybe seeing it on such an awesome quality screen gave me rose-tilted lenses. Still think it deserves points for finally being a reboot that tries.

Looks like my Thor:TDW and Jack Ryan guesses were just that lol.

Robocop or LEGO movie, which one should I see first?

Probably the Lego movie.

I'm seeing neither until they end up on Netflix.

I'm saving my Scene points until this summer movie season. TASM 2, Godzilla, CA: TWS, GOTG, XM: DOFP... I need a second job lol.

Saw Robocop last night. Here's my unspoilerish review.

Before I get into the review, I finally got a chance to see the Official ASM2 trailer in the theaters and if you've not already seen it on the big screen, you should check it out. I still prefer the Enemies Unite footage reel and the International trailer over the US one however the point I wanted to address is the visuals. Man, they looked amazing. All the cgi and I mean all of it looked absolutely stunning. The picture was incredibly clear and the colors looked quite incredible. There's a very noteable difference between watching the trailer on the computer screen to the theater. Way different.

So....Robocop. Let's be honest, the first Robocop was nothing more than a B-movie that was granted an A-movie budget. It had many of the classic elements of a straight ahead action film for that time period, a good looking protagonist, lots of gun play, dealings with crime and drugs, a memorable well-played antagonist, etc. Throw it up against Total Recall or any other sci-fi action movie from the 80s and it still does fine.

What sets the remake apart? For one the technology is much better. The action scenes have been given a much needed modern facelift and of course this is the driving force of the movie. Well, almost. This new version of Robocop changes the story about our main hero, Detective Alex Murphy in a way that focuses more on his human side. There's more emotional pull towards him as a character and shows the bond between he and his family. Something that was almost nonexistent from the original.

There really isn't much else in the way of a story. It's pretty much a straight forward tale much like the original. There's really no cover up for the plot nor any type of secret twist that you don't see coming. No surprises here. It's not needed though. The movie does a good job of connecting you with the protagonist and his transition from human to man of metal. It's a fun ride.

The acting imo is much better this time around. Joel Kinnaman does a very fine job in his performance as Murphy. He's believeable, grounded and bad ass when he needs to be. Samuel Jackson plays a news reporter and will give you a few chuckles, as always, he brings much charisma to his small but fun part. Gary Oldman is stellar as the conflicted Dr Norton. He's a great actor and this role once again proves it. Michael Keaton plays Raymond Sellars, the head of the robotic company that essentially creates Robocop and although his character doesn't have many layers, he pulls off the role with the ease of a veteran. As a side note, there are a few scenes with Keaton and Oldman speaking one on one and the uber-nerd inside me kept thinking, oh if only I could have gotten that Batman paired with that Jim Gordon. lol. Couldn't help it.

Robocop is a good movie, not ground breaking or genre changing but it doesn't need to be. There's only the most basic of action movie strings to pull on here but those it does tug at, it does with more heart and gravity. It's a tough thing to have a remake or reboot, especially when people seem to cling to what they already know. The end of the movie cleanly wraps up the story however there is definitely potential for a sequel and one that will have my attention.

Good RoboCop review. I plan on seeing it sometime next week (hopefully). Now I just wonder if it will get a sequel or not...?

Dude awesome. Good simply written review. This gets me more pumped because all the expectations I have for it is a basic action movie.
Plus, that suit's awesome.

This review is exactly what I was hoping to read. Thanks.

Thursday doesn't sound too bad does it? Though I do wish it were Friday.

I'm hungry. Anyone else?

Dude, I'm doing the same thing. Hollywood is spoiling me this year.
