Wolverine 2 Plans And Hugh Jackman In X-Men: First Class!
By Josh Tyler: 2008-12-05 02:51:10

Hugh Jackman has already talked about his willingness to keep playing the character of Wolverine as long as fans want him, but until now there’s been no talk of actually turning his upcoming Wolvy solo movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine into a full-fledged, Wolverine based franchise. Tonight though I talked a bit with one of Cinema Blend’s most reliable, proven scoopers who had tons of information for us on what Fox may be planning for Wolverine’s future.

According to our source, Fox isn’t waiting around to see how the solo movie performs. They’re already in talks to make multiple Wolverine sequels happen, and they’re tossing around story ideas for the almost inevitable Wolverine 2. Word is that the character they’re hoping to use as the villain of Wolverine 2 is someone named Cyber. In the X-Men universe, he’s sort of like Wolverine’s equal and opposite. Like Wolverine he’s Canadian and possesses most of the same powers as Wolverine. He has an Adamantium skin, claws, mutant healing ability, and so on. The villain of the first movie, Liev Schreiber, may also be back for the sequel as Sabretooth; but if they’re bringing in Cyber then he obviously won’t be the only villain.

But wait, there’s more! Two weeks ago Fox announced they’d be launching a new X-Men related movie franchise based on Mutant students and Professor Xavier’s school. They’re calling it X-Men: First Class and it will push a fresh group of young mutant characters. To get them off on the right foot, our source says Fox plans to have Hugh Jackman show up in the film with some sort of Wolverine cameo. Makes sense. Hugh seems willing to play Wolverine wherever and whenever anyone wants him, and if you’re Fox what better way to launch a new mutant franchise then with the help of your most popular mutant X-Men character.

It’s still very early and things can change, but this comes from an inside source who has already given us tons of proven information. It’s a safe bet that at the least, this is the direction Fox is headed with the franchise. We’ll let you more as it develops.

sorry Logan fans, but I hate this....

Wolverine 2, X-men first class with new mutants and Logan cameo...

and no X4....

sorry, but I preffer Rogue, Angel, Kitty, Beast and company before Wolverine+Wolverine+Wolverine....

:(
Well, I guess this is the closest we'll ever get to a X4

Cyber is the best villain they could come up with? It has to be Japan I mean cmon...

I think Cyber is cool and they could still be in Japan.

Yeah... truth be told, I am not a Wolverine fan in the least... and I am fine with "Wolverine," "Wolverine 2," and heck I am even fine with the X-men movies essentially revolving around him.

But Wolverine in First Class is kind of ridiculous. Hopefully he's just there as some sort of "tie-in" making it an X-4 of sorts.

I don't see how you can make a first class film with Rougue, Iceman, Kitty etc considering that isn't the first class... and it makes no sense having Wolverine in there if its a prequel... of course Fox will find some way to get Wolverine in there. They are about becoming as clueless as WB with their DC heroes... X-Men is going nowhere if this is the direction that it continues.

X4 would be good... if it had Gambit in it. :(

What are you talking about? Logan was around by the time Rogue got into the X-Men.

I believe First Class will be retitled. To me it seems like it's not going to be a prequel but a sequel to The Last Stand. Which I enjoy. I'd like to see it continue with the younger mutants that were established in The Last Stand along with some other "New Mutants" from the past and even from the newer ones.

I'm really hoping they don't decide to go with Cyber for the main villain in W2, I really want to see the Japanese stories explored.

Something tells me this story is a fake. Although I could see a Wolverine sequel happening, pending the success of the first.

I actually prefer they get Omega Red in a sequel... I mean the Cold War does go on into the 80's so I am sure they can do something with the established timeline. Plus with the brain swipe thingy at the end (I'm assuming) he can re-enlist as a member of the Weapons X team or some government agency. I'd save the Japan stuff for the third film... maybe have it take place where X-3 left off. It would make sense that Logan would take time away from the X-Men.

All of these Wolverine solo adventures makes me wish that Marvel had X-Men distribution so he can be in the Avengers.

Ok I'm really excited and then again not.... I'm not sure if everyone has heard about this but I just read an article on Xmenfilms.net that said that if Fox isn't still making X-men movies in 2012 the rights will go back to Marvel. So I guess its good b/c there will be lots of X-men movies coming.... Since hearing this my hopes are up for an X-men 4

Yes, the 2012 thing is true. I reported on it ages ago, if you read my blog...

this would apparently have to happen before 2012 when the film rights reportedly revert to Marvel.
from November 7

As for this Cyber story from Cinemablend, I don't trust it, it sounds like it's made-up. Do you really think the characters for a sequel are already planned six months before the first film is out!? Does anyone think Fox thinks this far ahead!?

That's your blog? I've read it occasionally and thought the blogger got his information the same way I do. Good effort.

I wonder if Marvel would continue the already established series. If not they should get Jackman back as Wolverine. Too bad, Fox isn't ready to let this franchise go.

Is there any news on when Marvel gets the FF & DD rights back?

So Fox wants a Wolverine cameo in X-Men First Class? Seems that it probably will be an lame X-4 with just the kids. It would be kinda weird to cameo him in a movie that takes place before X-1 same as its dumb that Cyclops is in the Wolverine movie as a cameo.

Thanks. I get my info from all over the place. Sadly, I'm finding a lot of info online isn't always very accurate so it's sometimes tough deciding whether to report it!

It's really hard work to keep the blog going, there is so much stuff out there and only so much time to do it.

again, I feel like Fox doesn't know what to do with the franchise.

They were talking about Fantastic Four though...

I dislike this plan. If they're gonna make another X-men movie how about change the story and throwing Cable in there?
