Woman Sees Prison Sentence For Neglecting Her Child....

Because of World of Warcraft. Sadly, the child died. The mother faces 25 years to life in prison.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — A New Mexico woman has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the death of her young daughter, who withered away from malnutrition and dehydration while the mother spent hours chatting and playing World of Warcraft online.

The house had an overflowing litter box and pervasive smell of cat urine. And there appeared to be so little food that the child ate cat food, according to the U.S. attorney's office. There also was no PediaSure, police said, which a year prior had been prescribed to the child for digestive problems and frequent diarrhea.

The three-year-old child had only gained a single pound in it's last surviving year. Only 23 pounds by age 3 1/2? My gosh.

The father was convinced of child neglect as well.....

What a sad story. Poor kid.

Even though the mother had an internet addiction, there were a lot of people who could have stepped in and saved the child. The father and the grandparents also knew of the neglect (the grandparents had custody of one of her children so they had to know) and did nothing.

Sigh...I don't know why I go to these threads. I hate hearing things that happen to children more than anything else, and there are far too many horrible things that happen to them.

Honestly how could someone live with themselves knowing they hurt/killed such a sweet innocent child, and to play a video game nonetheless. This isn't even being neglectful for just an hour, couple hours, or even a day or couple of days, this was over a long stretch of time. To just starve her child to death is just simply inexcusable and horrendous.

New parents should be required to take training course on how to raise a child. I don't know if it would have helped in this situation as the mother has some obvious addiction problems but maybe it could help parents who genuinely need help in starting their family and need that support.
