Woman sues Best Buy for 54 mil after they lose her laptop

LOL.

Wait.

What is best buy?

Is it like a pawnbroker?

I doubt she can win given nothing justifies that amount unless she was at a risk of earning or losing that amount because of the loss of her laptop. Of course, who knows how a jury will decide and it is possible for her to get a few thousand plus the legal cost.

She says she had important information on it. I can see suing for that.

I thought she was worried about "identity theft" issues.

It is her important information and unless she is worth that amount or could possibly earn that in her lifetime she has no claim to such an amount. However, if she wins the case given the policy on "punitive damages" she scould potentially get awarded that much. It would be however very disproportionate.

Oh hell yeah, I would sue them........the research I have on my along with lectures, power points etc.......YES, I would sue their pants off.....

But then I would have to give the money to my school district.......since they provide the laptop......

*sighs*

Yep if I were her, I would already have changed my SSN, bank account numbers, all passwords etc........before even thinking about sueing....

And for the most part, lawyers ask for a hell of alot of money, knowing they won't get near that much. She won't get anywhere near that amount, but she sure has hell had the right to sue.

She won't get anywhere close to that ammount, but she'll get something. Hell, I wouldn't be suprised to see Best Buy just throw a few millions as it would be cheaper than going to court.

I lost a cell phone at Captain D's one time and it had the phone number of an incredibly hot stripper. I wonder if I can sue them for a couple million dollars.

If Captain D's was supposed to be keeping it for you, go for it. :o

I'm betting they have her rubbed off.

She wont get 54, but boy, she might get 1 or 2 million to replace her hardware...cost of lawyer, and then of course punitive damages for dealing with identity theft.

If they lost mine, hell yeah I'd sue for 54 Mil. I hope she wins big time...

If I could get $54 million, minus the legal costs, coming to about $40 million for the loss of my laptop I would be happy to lose it anytime now.

Getting $50,000 would already be sufficient for such a thing. Over a million makes the idea attractive.

My thoughts exactly.

Man, I need to go buy a laptop so Best Buy can lose it. Sounds like a pretty solid investment to me!

I'd just ask them to give me a new laptop.

This woman has a legitimate case, but most of this is simply grandstanding. By her own admission, she doesn't expect to win. She wants an explanation because Best Buy jerked her around for six months and didn't tell her about the identity theft exposure (which they're required to by law).
She says she doesn't expect to win, but wants to go to court anyway to force Best Buy to explain how her laptop was lost
Beyond that, she picked 54 Million as a number only because it was the amount that idiot ALJ in DC sued for in the 'Lost Pants' case and to draw further attention to her issue.
