World War Z Sequel

I think some sequences from the book could be used, would love to see the Chinese submarine sequence on film.

Anyway, I wonder who will direct now though?

The first one came out June 21, 2013. Starting production in 2016 isnt waiting too long. Its been less than 3 years since the last one came out. Its not like they waited a decade. And zombie properties havent lost popularity. Not every sequel needs to be fast tracked.

Agreed. But I feel like a sequel for this shouldve been. It made money but I dont feel like it left a lasting impression for people clamoring for a sequel. Shouldve struck when the iron was hot

Also it doesnt matter when production is. It more matters when it's released in the case we are discussing.

Big upgrade on the director on the way. http://variety.com/2016/film/news/david-fincher-world-war-z-sequel-brad-pitt-1201819540/

After losing director J.A. Bayona to the “Jurassic World” universe, Brad Pitt is zeroing in on an old friend for the “World War Z” sequel.
Sources have told Variety that Pitt, along with Paramount and Skydance, is in talks with David Fincher to direct the sequel to his 2013 smash hit.

Pitt, who’s returning to star in and produce the “World War Z” follow-up, recently met with a handful of other directors, but is said to be zeroing in on Fincher for the project, which is expected to start filming in early 2017.

Skydance and Paramount had no comment on the development.
According to sources, Fincher and Pitt met two weeks ago to discuss the possibility of Fincher boarding the zombie tentpole. The talks were initially lukewarm but sources now tell Variety negotiations are much further down the road and no one else currently has the offer to direct.

That's surprising. Glad to see that Fincher is moving away from adapting goofy airport novels like Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl.

Seems weird that Fincher would want to direct a sequel like this, but oh well.

He obviously likes collaborating with Pitt. They've worked on 4 movies previously.

I feel like this is something that'll be a crazy story for a bit, then will be mostly forgotten and eventually will just never materialize.

Wait, Colin Trevorrow(sp) isn't coming back for Jurassic World 2? Fuuuuuuuu

And David Fincher for WWZ2? OK I guess. I mean he's a great director, but for this? We already saw what happened the last time they got someone that's not familiar with the subject matter.

My one hope is that the Zeds aren't undead linebackers with Usain Bolt speed, and retcon the whole immune to disease nonsense. They need to look at Romero and Walking Dead zombies. That's how Max Brooks envisioned them.

i am still waiting for a Fincher original story. he doesnt need to be a screenwritter but after 20 years he could direct a movie based on his original idea.

If he directs this sequel i bet its because Pitt would guarantee him a specific amount of creative freedom. which is important to him.

Tyler Durden v Zombies... Oh wait that was Fight Club. :o

I wanna see a Fincher horror film tho. SEVEN is the closest he's got.

Oh no. I mean Fincher NOT making movies is a tragedy (the last one was in 2014) but this is just so beneath him. Can't imagine him wanting to do this after all the horror stories with Alien 3 production

I'd rather not see Fincher waste his time with this. But if he wants to do it, all the power to him.

Most likely he'll do it for clout to make more original films in the future. He's had a few projects fall through already. If that's the case, it's unfortunate. This isn't anything new, but with people like Gary Ross directing Ocean's 8 after the failure of Free State of Jones and Danny Boyle doing a ****ing Trainspotting sequel after Steve Jobs, this is something that's going to be happening more.

10 or even 5 years ago, the thought of Fincher or a great filmmaker like him tackling a big blockbuster would have been mouth watering. Kind of like how Nolan was announced for Batman. Now it's just business as usual.

To be fair, if he makes this, it'll be great. But still, I'd rather him do something original and great. This just seems like a waste.

I'll be laughing hard if Fincher directed this. He made a promise with Se7en, Fight Club and The Game and he hasn't delivered all those years. A genius director who all he does is prestige hired work.
