Would twilight be just as succesful if a bunch of models were the leads?

Ok guys (and mods) this is not a bashing thread to hate on the twilight Saga I merely want to have a discussion about this without debunking the New moon thread. Was just wondering would it have impacted the Movies success if models where cast as opposed to the people that where, I mean a majority if not all of it's success comes from Teenage girls think so and so is hot.

It's based on a popular, almost cult book series, so yeah. The fact that it's being brought to live action is more than enough for the fanbase.

I actually thought most of the actors in Twilight were models .Mainly Cullen's family and I think they had three lines of dialogue between them. they even had a GAP commercial halfway through the movie that showed people playing football.

Travis Van Winkle who you might've seen in movies like Accepted, Transformers, Friday The 13th, Meet The Spartans and looks like a model is proof that having a pretty face can't always guarantee you good parts.

No. It wouldn't have. Because it's a perfect storm. Robert Pattinson has a certain mystique about him that fits the role perfectly. And Kristin Stewart's lack of a distinct personality fits the main character's lack of personality to the tee.

No. It wouldn't have. Because it's a perfect storm. Robert Pattinson has a certain mystique about him that fits the role perfectly. And Kristin Stewart's lack of a distinct personality fits the main character's lack of personality to the tee.

I think if some random male model had been cast fangirls would be squealing about his mystique. It's the role that's attracting the girls, IMO, not the actor.

I disagree. I havent seen the films, but apparently Robert Pattinson played "the hot guy girls want" in the Harry Potter films. His casting in twilight was PERFECT. He was already known by a segment of the geek-girl community as being a guy they should lust after. The books were a massive success (again, some would say that Potter helped with the entire "young girls reading books about goth stuff that they dont usually care about" trend) and the movie was going to be a hit. Pattinson, because of the Potter connection...and his "kinda emo, kinda goth but not too much to not be hot to adult women" look helped big time.

As far as Kristin Stewart...she is bland and boring...and honestly no sexier than most of the girls in line at midnight to see the film. She not even close to be being the hottest girl in her own film. This is PERFECT because the girls watching can put themselves on that screen, giving this non-character their own personality...believing that the guy of their dreams could fall for them as well since this girl isnt anything special.

I think it was all pretty brilliant. Not nearly brilliant enough for me to watch though.

I think they probably did require at least a small level of acting skill, because the level of attractiveness that the girls will feel for the characters is going to be somewhat based on their personalities, the way they talk, act and so on. They want young girls to think these characters are cool.

I saw the first movie not knowing what it was or having seen any previews expecting it to be a horror movie. It wasn't horrible but it was clearly not intended to be a piece of art that any director was going to take pride in. It was just clever marketing to make young teenage girls think it's cool, romantic, and trendy to be into these movies.

It's like Hannah Montanna kind of. My little sister didn't even like her untill she realized how popular she was. Twilight's success is at least partly kind of working the same way.

A big part of the reason so many girls are attracted the these guys in the first place is because they know so many other girls are attracted to them. The mere fact that these movies are popular is the cause of even more girls liking them.

Well that is part of the claim to fame that the books have. Bella was supposed to be this everywoman who happens to be in love with a vampire. As eyeroll worthy as I find that (and I'm 26) a lot of these young girls have such an idyllic view of true love and romance that it plays right to them. Even some older women who should know better play right into that. As someone upthread said KStew has just the right amount of lack of personality that she's the perfect Bella.

I don't think they could hire mdel to play the parts and have it be as acceptable. Like fanboys, this fanbase is very vocal about who plays who and if they aren't accepting of who is playing a beloved character they will make it known.

Ohh they do. It may not even have to do with the actors resume but it he or she doesn't look the part then fans are generally vocal about it.

Like one actress, Nikki Reed I believe is her name, I read a lot of hate directed towards her because she was picked to play one of the vampire clan. I think it was that the way the vampire girl she plays is desribed as the most beautiful person in the world in the book and a lot of the fans feel that Reed does not fit that description.

Casting directors will tell you that they're is such a thing as "too pretty." Some of the people on soap operas are actually fine actors, but have been deemed "too pretty" to make it in primetime or movies.

I think van Winkle's problem is different. He has a dbag vibe, which leads him to be only cast as jerky boyfriends.
