If you suddenly had the option of turning the U.S. into a dictatorship and you get to be the dictator would you? Most of us are opposed to a dictatorship, but it's probably a different story when you get to be the dictator.
I have to be honest I'm not sure. If I did I'd probably turn it back into a democracy in a few years. I would either A. return it to a democracy the minute I came into power or I would keep it for a few years and do the following.

First I would allow the democratic process to continue except for when I override everybody which would be often. Freedom of the press, speech, and belief would remain the law of the land.
raise minimum wage by 85 cents
redeploy the troops in Iraq to secure the iraq border and oil and do nothing else
create a path to citicizenship for the illegal immigrants, where they have to pay a 5 dollar fine every month for the next 12 years to fully become legal. Any illegal immigrants who make 10 dollars or more an hour have to pay 7 dollars a month to become legal.
Make a speech at the U.N. that while I am in charge the United States is going to be fair and objective with our relations towards Israel and Iran. If Israel is going to have our protection and alliance than they must stop building on the neutral zone. They can not steal any more land, and continued support will not be guranteed in the event of another act of genocide like they committed against lebannon. And if Iran agrees to quit enriching uranium than we will also tell Israel to dismantle their own nuclear weapons.
Outlaw any pork barrel spending attachments to any bills from here on out
Limit abortions to the first three months of a pregnancy
pass a law that goes into effect that all guns manufactured to be sold in the U.S. 4 years from now must come with safety locks. No producing fingerprint proof guns, and reinstating the ban on federal assault weapons
raise the retirement age by 2 years for anybody retiring 4 years from now, and that law will last 10 years
raise taxes on cigarettes by 10 cents a pack, with a 10 cent increase every 4 years for the next 20 years. Restrict nictotine levels to gradually decrease over the next 20 years to nicotine free cigarttes. It can be done, because phillip morris successfully had it gentetically removed years ago for a prototype.
Pass an energy plan that says that all vehicles manufactured to be sold in the United States after 2018 have to have 90% of what is currently metal replaced with the material to make motorcycle helmets, and run off of electricity. The government will purchase 1 million solar panel roofing units annually for 12 years and randomly give them to home owners, but all the electricty they would sell back to the company will be used to pay back the government for the cost of funding this. In 2018 an X-prize of the purchase 800 billion worth and a second place prize of 3 billion worth to whoever can give us the best deal.
