since im giving second thoughts to my major(ERZ I've arleady been given the pep talk from my mom) im begining to feel a bit discouraged and not really happy with it.(or i probably feel like quiting). Sometimes i think i was in it for the money(which is'nt bad in itself). i was always interested in science and social studies so im thinking of leaning towards it.

anyways, what do you guys think is a better choice to when it comes to pursuing your career?

If you're going to be realistic then you have to have a balance of both. You have to plan for a degree that you think your strengths will be in also. You may love art...but if you are a crappy artist or have zero sense of composition then your love for art will not go that much far beyond your natural strength.

Pretty much sums it up. If you really enjoy something but are afraid that you won't be able to get a job you would be completely happy with in it (whether because of money or somethign else) then try minoring or double majoring. Just because it isn't your job doens't mean you have to abandon it. You can do it as a hobby if you want.

yeah i beleive in balance but money is very important.

I'll probably get a major in programming for the money. I don't have much experience with it as of yet (I'm going to spend the next two years of high school studying it. I think I get a degree at the end of high school, but I'm not sure.) and I'm not a tech geek, but I neither hate it nor love it and it should give me money. I'd like to become an anthropologist- maybe write books about the subject, but sustaining myself in that field would probably involve me working at McDonald's. I might consider a double major.

Unless you are in pre-law/med or in grad school your major doesn't mean all that much, so go with whatever will make you happy for four years, because those are really the only four years you get to be happy. After that, it's the rat race.

I majored in Painting for the untold millions it will bring me.

I picked Broadcasting for my major, but the more I learn about the business, the more I hate it. Now I'm without a major, and floating in college limbo. It sucks.

im in the same boat...:( although i have other interests criminal justice and social work.)

I'm not saying I'm giving up, but a few community college real estate classes are on the table.

My first major was Cartooning, but the classes weren't very challenging and what the hell can you do with a degree in comics. So I switched to illustration at the end of last year, so this year will be my first time as an illustrator.

I'm thinking about going to grad school to get a masters in Art Education, For some reason lately I feel like being a Highschool art teacher.

My big question is, Do I jump right into Grad school, or do I take a few years off and try to get a job. If I jump right in, I don't know if I'll be ready for it, but if I wait, then my loans start needing to be repayed.

Money is and will forever be important. It just depends on how much you let the chase for it affect your life. Sometimes, though, you gotta take the good with the bad.

Lawyers, for example. Who seriously grows up truly desiring to be a lawyer and thinks "I want to defend my cliets with truth, justice, and the American way!"? It just so happens that when they do become lawyers and make the big bucks, it's a different story. "I have a huge home, I'm wealthy, and I can support my husband/wife and children." It's complicated. The world is rough, and the future is scary.

As an archaeology major, I really didn't pick my field of study for the money. I'm considering grad school or teaching, still not sure yet. However, you can get most jobs with any Bachelor's degree, so it's not like it's that big a deal that I'm not majoring in accounting or computer science.

Sucks to go through such. But at least you know it now and not after you've finished school and graduated. It's happen to too many people.

This is one of the major reasons why a Liberal Arts degree is becoming both popular and respected by businesses now.

It's about balancing out. I work for a dot.com its a little boring but it is part of what i went to school for. You also need to be practical, get a degree in something you know there is a need/demand for in the workplace.

I'm majoring in Marine Biology for the love of it.

It's funny...when I quit my job in a hardware store, everybody who knew I was going away to school kept telling me how great it was that I was going, and how I was going for the BIG bucks.

I have a feeling there's not a lot of money in marine biology.

GOD this is my dilemma also. I'm majoring in Political Science but it just doesnt excite me anymore and I dont think I would be happy with any of the jobs they offer. I really wanted to major in film but I don't think I'll bother. I'm looking at other majors now that I find interesting but will also be sucessfull for me.
