Would you support Evan Bayh for President in 2008?

No because the spelling of his last name perturbs me.

"Bayh!"

Now that the Democrats have taken back Congress, I decided to bump this back to the main page.

I think it is worth reapeating that Evan Bayh is one of the strongest potential candidates for the Democrats in 2008.

I don't think anybody will beat Hillary for the nomination, so it seems almost pointless to talk about it. Hillary is winning the nomination and she's losing the general election to a John McCain/Rudy Guilliani ticket.

I'm not psychic but I knew for along time that dems would win the house in 06, and the 2008 results, and I can also tell you that Obama will be president in 2012. He will enjoy a democratic controlled house too.

I think that John Kerry would be a strong cantidate in '08. Watching his speech replying to the Republicans jumping on his botched joke, made me realize how commanding, smart, and articulate he is. These are qualities that are not shared by our current commander in chief.

If John runs in 08, he'll just botch it all over again and get another Republican elected. I mean, think about it. He had to REALLY shove his foot into his mouth to get Bush re-elected, and I think his whole "celebrities are the heart and soul of America" misstep killed him.

Barack Obama all the way. So what if his name isn't Anglican? He's the best viable candidate if you ask me.

I'd rather see Barack wait a while before running.
Bring on John Kerry or John Edwards.
Or both.

Obama hasn't shown a whole lot. He needs more time to be a power cantidate. It's too bad that Gore isn't putting his name in the hat.

Funny, when I watched the Incovenient Truth, I thought this guy is definitely running in 08. But we'll see. I don't know if now that the Dems won both houses, the general public will likely find a Gore presidency even less appealing?

I woundn't mind seeing Obama run in 2008. Even though he hasn't even served half his tenure in the Senate yet, he's more popular than half the veterans, and he is a very strong politician. For better or for worse, he's reached across the aisle, working with Republicans on multiple bills, and could help the Democratic party shed its "liberal" (I use the term loosely, as people have gotten a distorted notion of its definition) image.

As far as Hillary Clinton is concerned, I don't think that she will win the nomination. She is too polarizing even among Democrats, I don't see how that will translate into winning the nomination.

If the Democrats are smart, they will note that part of the reason they were able to take back Congress was that they ran moderate candidates where neccessary. If they want to take back the White House in '08, they will need to nominate a centrist candidate that can appeal to independents and moderate Republicans, someone who can compete in places like the South and Midwest and turn Red States into Blue States.

Evan Bayh is someone who could do this, He has won five elections in a stubbornly Republican-leaning state. Bill Clinton has said on a few occasions that he wants Bayh as President. He would probably win Indiana's electoral votes, as well as possibly Ohio's. Could compete in the South and West. Pair him up with Wesley Clark or Mark Warner, and the Democrats would have a winning ticket.

I personally think Bill Richardson is the best potential candidate. But thats just me.

no one named Evan can ever become president.

Its so true :( We need a manly name like George or John. Frankly, the entire US population of 1850 needs an ass kicking for electing a Millard

I've never really understood the notion that candidate's name affects electability.

One thing Richardson has on his side is how politically experienced he is in both domestic and foreign policy. The one downside is that he has a lot of baggage, which you just know the Republicans would use.

Evan Bayh announced that he's out.

John Edwards is about to announce that he's in.
