Yeah, I think when he was doing his OVW stint he was called Prototype and had that Mr. Perfect-like gimmick.

I really think that's something he's better suited for. The rapper thing has gotten real stale, and it's too bad. He's much better than he leads us to believe.

Y'see, thats what I'm talking about. He should just start going overboard about how good he is and how he can't be beaten or made to submit or something and he can get in a feud with someone with a submission finisher. Too bad Benoit went to Smackdown.

Guy Gardner said:
Anything but the Thuganomics Cena. Please no more of that, his fued with the Taker was horrid.

This toned down, hip-hop Cena is much more tolerable. I recognize his talent and mic skills, but I think he's better suited as a cocky, arrogant heel.

Think Randy Orton x15. Play up his new Hollywood appeal and turn his ass bad.

um, thuganomics cena IS the cocky, arrogant heel.

Thuganomics Cena was more interesting, less over the top, and entertaining. His raps didn't sound scripted, and he came across as more intense. He was all business. He felt more charismatic and I was always looking forward to a segment with him. Nowadays he comes out waving his arms in the air like a flag. No souljah salutes please. Throw the wordlife sign up, and commence to beating ass.

I think we may be seeing a Cena heel turn soon anyway, if he drops his belt at Cyber Sunday it would be the perfect opportunity to turn him and have him shed the rapper gimmick claiming 'it's not who he is'. As well as turning on the fans for voting his title be defended.

I know the second part won't happen, but they're missing a golden opportunity to turn Cena if he retains his belt.

Yep. I've voted like 20 times already for his belt to be on the line. Enough is enough.

I mean, look at Cena's rap against Benoit in April of 2003:

SmackDown 04/17

Yo yo yo, Chris Benoit I hope you're listening
Don't you ever tell me who can and can't respect
You wind up in surgery with another broken neck
At least you all set when you get your release
Whenever you go broke, rent the space between your teeth
No, you don't like what I'm saying, I don't care, you get flipped off
Don't ever judge me, dude, you're just a Dynamite rip-off
Yo, you's a Rabid Wolverine, but you missed a fang
I tie string to acorns, so I can let my [bleep] hang
You ready to settle this? Then come on out fight me.
I ain't allergic to your rabies, dog! Go ahead and bite me [grabs area]

Look at that. That's frickin vicious. And that was all him. I would've loved to hear him rap against Edge unscripted in their feud. That's the Cena I like, not the one doing souljah salutes and waving his arms around.

That is moderately good. The rent line was cold as ice. That line was nice.

SmackDown 2/27/03

Brock:
I see hit here glued to the screen, punching these keys,
watching everything you do on these internet feeds
I download high speed all the files I need
To make your hard drive crash, and to make your face bleed
you can't erase me
I'm gonna make you taste me
I'm a virus; I kill you the next time you face me
I'm jealous, you stole my shot at the brass ring
Everybody knows I'm the next big thing
You all bark, and no bite
you stole my spotlight
I'm the great white hope
You're the great white hype
If you an animal, then I'm going on safari
I'm rocking PlayStation 2, you can't figure out Atari
Look at these eyes, Brock, don't think that I won't shoot you
I'll leave you worthless, like a nerd with no computer
show the world that you can't even walk in my shoes
Your finisher's the F5? Well mine's the FU

SmackDown! 07/03 (via John-Cena.net)

Undertaker's spreading them lies to Orlando Jordan,
It’s not your yard. It’s a prison bro, and I’m the warden.
You can’t see me? I’m a legend, you should pay me some respect,
And if you’re late on paying me, I’m gonna come and collect.
So now I wrestle Mr Ass, the dude who likes to suck it,
Torrie's a cover-up bro, we know you take it in the bucket.
Hey, I’m not nervous cause you got this weird fetish with butts,
I’m scared because your favorite food is sausage and nuts.
You can’t handle the truth Billy, you’d rather feel up Chuck,
You don’t want to wrestle with me, all you want is to []

I remember his Brock rap....and yes, I don't deny he has talent, I just hate the gimmick and think he'd do better to turn into that Mr. Perfect style heel.

Besides, with Cryme Tyme, isn't it about time for Cena to ditch the urban approach?

Yeah, leave that to Cryme Tyme and LAX over on TNA. He needs to just be a conceited mega-jerk heel. Like i would be. :D

Maybe in terms of ring attire, but everything else I'd keep. If Cena can cut promos that sound natural and not scripted, plus less arm waving and all, I'd be happy and wouldn't be desiring to hear him rap.

As for heels, Orton and Edge are better at it and are the top heels on RAW (despite not being treated as such).

If they could do the "The champ is here" Cena with the WordLife attitude, then they may have something. After that, we'd just have to worry about his workrate...

i think RAW just has to think of a new gimmik for everyone, or at least a lot of them. We need to change Cena, HHH, Benjamin, Carlito (slightly). They also have to give edge and orton more wins. orton barely wins his feuds and so does edge. How can we expect them to beat DX when orton couldn't beat HHH in 2004, and Edge couldn't beat HHH back in the triple threat match. I think Edge beat HBK before like at the Rumble of 2005. But they just really have to turn the heels up a notch.

As for cena, i would like to see him rap again and get all cocky. He needs to seriously stop being such a good guy and bring back more of that attitude from 2003-2004.

Can any of you guys tell me who sang maria's new intro song? And what's the song called? Thanks!!

He has ditched the urban approach. He doesn't rap anymore, and he doesn't wear rapper clothes with throwback jerseys and chains and whatnot. His gimmick has evolved in to the Marine. Which is pathetic, but that's the way it goes, I guess.

This was another straight-forward show. Since I know a lot of people don’t watch the show, I will close with an evaluation of how the wrestlers from this week’s show are progressing in ECW:

CM Punk – Easily the early success story from ECW, Punk is well on his way to becoming a star. His push has been so straight forward. He wins his matches decisively, and is never outsmarted by the heels. The crowd knows they can believe in him, and when he starts feuding with bigger stars he will likely move to a new level. His straight edge gimmick to me was always more of a heel gimmick, and a feud with Rob Van Dam is a natural story that would produce great matches.

Matt Striker – I just don’t get what people see in Striker. He is a sub-par wrestler and his heel personality screams lower card. Perhaps he could work better as a heel manager, but they need to ditch the teacher gimmick sooner or later. It’s just not a gimmick with upward mobility.

Hardcore Holly – A face turn seemed like a good idea based on his match with Rob Van Dam, but his personality isn’t terribly sympathetic. I think he can still work well in that capacity, but he needs to be booked strongly in order to do so. Tonight’s reaction to his match was not a positive sign. He’s a good fit for ECW, but as a tough midcarder to help get over rising heels.

Test – Test has done better in ECW than I expected. His match with Rob Van Dam the other week was a real positive for him. He is capable of having good matches with the right opponent, particularly for a man of his size. He still has his limitations, as he isn’t a good talker and doesn’t have much charisma. I don’t see him as a main event single, but I think he works well as a heel enforcer. I think they should increasingly link him with Heyman, as the guy that Heyman calls in when the Riot Squad falters.

Big Show – Show deserves major credit for working so hard as ECW champion. He didn’t need to, and he has really gone beyond the call of duty. The problem remains that he has been jobbed out for so many years that it is hard to rehabilitate him even with an extended push. ECW would also be able to differentiate itself by putting together great main events every week, and Show can only do so much in that capacity. I’m not nearly as down on Show as champion as I once was, but I do think there are better choices for the role.

Rob Van Dam –RVD is the star of the ECW show, as would have been expected going in. His chase of Big Show is working well so far. It’s too bad they had RVD win the ECW Title already with a brief run, because the story of RVD chasing his first ECW Title was something Paul Heyman built for years and now they can’t really do it. Still, RVD works naturally as champion, as evidenced by his great run as TV champion. I hope RVD’s body can hold up, because he’s a lot older now than when he was going so hard in the mid to late 90s.

ANGLE SO MESSED UP ON PAIN PILLS, CAN'T REMEMBER WHEN HE QUIT PAIN PILLS
Tuesday Oct 17, 2006

At a media conference call staged by TNA, Kurt Angle was so messed up on pain pills; he couldn't remember when he quit pain pills. "I quit pain pills cold turkey. That was three years ago. No, wait. That was eighteen months ago. Or so. God, I get so hazy when I take too many of these soma…ah… somaof a ***** I hate Vince McMahon!"

KURT CLAIMS HE BROKE UP; VINCE SAYS IT WAS MUTUAL
Tuesday Oct 17, 2006

The ugly public break up between Kurt Angle and Vince McMahon got even uglier this week, as neither side could agree on who broke up with who. "Kurt Angle clearly feels abused in the situation," said TV Host/relationship expert/match.com consultant Dr. Phil.

"Kurt feels that Vince didn't appreciate what Kurt sacrificed for Vince, and that Vince just treated him like a dog. Kurt also got plain sick of Vince working 24/7." Dr. Phil noted that many of Vince's past relationships have ended in the same way. "Frankly, Vince needs to get that stick out of his ass. Vince McMahon is on the run. Runnin' from his past and runnin' from a tender relationship. The son of gun needs to realize that he'd be a lot happier if he would just quit ****tin' in everybody else's stew, take a long look at himself, and realize that he's got some damn big Daddy issues."

ANGLE MOVES IN TOO FAST; CREEPS OUT DIXIE CARTER
Tuesday Oct 17, 2006

Kurt Angle is known to be aggressive, but he's moving just a bit to fast for Dixie Carter in their new relationship. "I like Kurt a lot. Everything has been going great between us so far. But I have to admit that I was a little creeped out by how he kept going on and on about me in our media conference call last week." Carter was reportedly pleased when Kurt said he "found working for Dixie Carter that wrestling could be fun again. You don't get pressured into doing something you don't want to do. This will be a lot of fun for me and grow quickly." But Carter admits that she began to think Kurt was coming on too strong when he said he expects to work for Dixie "for the next 30 years." Just a few seconds later, Kurt said he plans on being with TNA "forever." That's when Carter said her "stalker radar" went off. "The guy is coming off of a really bad break up. But if he starts weeping about Vince in public one more damn time, I'm telling him I need some space."

CRACKHEAD INTERRPUTS TNA IMPACT
Thursday Oct 19, 2006

A strung-out crackhead slid past security and got on the mic during the Oct 19 episode of TNA Impact. Embarrassed by the incident, TNA attempted to edit the crackhead's twitching, nonsensical, high-on rant off the show, but were only able to get it down to a tight 30 seconds. The delusional man believed he was going to be a "special referee" at Bound For Glory. The claim was immediately recognized as preposterous by TNA fans that know that TNA would never employ anyone who has a drug habit.

RAW SETS STEREOTYPE RECORD
Monday Oct 16, 2006

WWE set a new RAW race record last week when an astounding five black people were included in one segment. But perhaps even more impressive were the stunning six racial stereotypes in the very same segment. "We're all very proud of this difficult achievement," said WWE creative genius Brian Gerwitz. "We successfully introduced our gangbanging street n***a tag team to the RAW audience by having them engage in theft of the wallet of our street n***a turned cartoonish English king Booker T, right in front of Uncle Tom house n***a who runs the show when old rich powerful whitey massa McMahon is away. Top that, Cops!" Gerwitz was particularly proud of the layered stereotypes in the Booker T character. "See, he USED to be a gangbanger. Now he THINKS he's an old English king so he tries to talk like what old English kings talked like, but…he's black! So it comes out sounding like a gangbanger with a bad old English king accent. That's depth." Gerwitz was asked why WWE doesn't try to capitalize on more sophisticated racially based acts that draw actual heat like TNA's red-hot LAX. He answered, "Those TNA Mexicans are scary. They seem REALLY violent. We prefer our marginalized non-threatening lawn mower riding Mexicans."

ERIC BISCHOFF: CORPORATE GIANT. YOU? NOT SO MUCH.
Tuesday Oct 17, 2006

In his new book "Controversy Creates Cash," former WCW head Eric Bischoff proves to dumb wresting fans that he was solidly part of the super-corporate Turner corporate structure, something their puny blue collar brains could never fully understand. Dumb wrestling fans were universally confused by a simple corporate sentence on page 324 of the book, where Bischoff wrote, "Intercompany allocations and forecasts were used and abused to help various divisions or departments position themselves internally for future budget considerations." Don't get it do you? That's not because the sentence is meaningless. It is because you are a nerdy-dirt-sheet-reading-loser.
