Comics X-Men comic fans - do you read other comics?

Let's see...

Outside of the X, I read just about anything with the name "Brian K. Vaughn" on it, whether it's Runaways, Y or Ex Machina. I really, REALLY got into Fables, but I haven't read since March of the Wooden Soldiers, although I have been spoiled to
Snow and her litter, the Adversary's identity, and the fact that Baba Yaga wasn't the only Riding Hood imposter.
I've got all of Preacher except Salvation and War in the Sun, and yeah, it really is one of the best friggin' series of all time. I'd been told about Transmetropolitan before, and I plan on tryign to read it. After that, I'm likely to start collecting the Sin City books, cause Frank Miller makes me hot inside.

Hey manic, glad you've found Vertigo. Y, Sandman, and Fables are all AMAZING titles. The three other books from Vertigo that are must reads are 100 Bullets, Transmetropolitan, and Preacher. MAKE SURE to check those out, if you haven't already. Preacher, especially, many fans quote as being their favorite comic series of all time.
See, I've actually read the first trade of Preacher. Couldn't get into it. It seems pretty interesting, but something about it just drew me away.

try the second, I'm begging you. The first is just sort of setting the series up, and it's easy to be turned off by the initial violence. But volume two is where it sinks it's hooks into you, and makes you really feel these characters

-hope you don't mind, but I'm gonna edit some spoiler tags just for anyone who may yet read the series

-BKV rocks, you should come post on his board some time www.bkv.tv

-If you dig BKV, you may wanna give the same treatment to Robert Kirkman, who writes Invinicble, The Walking Dead, Marvel Team-Up, and others. I think if you enjoy one you'd definitely enjoy the other.

-you let Fables be spoiled for you? you fool! I'm sorry man. Anyway, get back into it, vol 6, Homelands, is badassedness

-Preacher: wait, you haven't read vol 6 and 7, but you did read 8 and 9? you skipped ahead? aww, you suck. War in the Sun is the best of the bunch

-read Transmetropolitan or I will find you and do very very bad things to you....

Oh, I almost forgot...

Despite all of the controversy involving Brian Michael Bendis' run on New Avengers and all things involving Scarlet Witch, I had heard that his old MAX title, Alias, was really good. I know I like his work in Ultimate Spider-Man, so I decided to take a stab in the dark and order the Alias Onmibus off of Amazon.com. It should be arriving within a week. Should make for some interesting reading during my lunch breaks at work.

Are you including manga in this discussion. Cause if you are I can suggest two that are beyond phenomenal.

One would be Urasawa Naoki's Monster. This is the motherload of suspense, dynamic characters, plot, and whatever else anyone can ask for in a story. The mange is superb. The anime (which I saw first) is flawless too. It's no diffrent than the manga. It's nearly taken scene from scene. This story is damn good, New Line Cinema picked it up. But I'm worried about that beacuse the manga has alot of volumes, and the anime is 73 episodes long. The movie will cut too much to make it just as good.

The other goodie is Twelve Kingdoms a.k.a Junni Kokki. Again I saw the anime first, but the manga is, well, better. That's because the series abruptly stops at the end of a minor arc, without continuing on with one of the major arcs. There was with the production. So if you do see the anime, stop at episode 39. The manga tells the whole story. I got spoiled in the anime cause the music is so beautiful.

I actually went out to buy these. Yes, they're that good. I suggest you give these a try. Monster will hook you on the first volume, or episode. Twelve Kingdoms may take a little longer, but it's worth it.

The only X-books I read right now are Ultimate X-men and Astonishing. I'll add Uncanny when Bru gets his run going, but lately, Daredevil has been number one for me.

What this guy said.

I read The Ultimates too sometimes. And I buy back issues.

I read the three "main" X-books(Astonishing, Uncanny and Adjectiveless); I've also read Ultimate X-Men(even though lately I feel like I should dump it).
As for other comics, I kinda find it hard to read any of the main 616 books, 'cause they have so much history - it'll be really hard to catch up with them.(even though I wish I could start reading an Avengers/F4 book and understand everything there).

But I do read the new Ms. Marvel book(and loving it so far :D), and I've read Avengers Illuminati - which was a great read as well.

um i read a good few books

Axm
Uncanny
Adjectevless
X-Factor
Exiles
New Excaliber
New X-men
Cable & Deadpool
X-men the End
Son of M
The 198
New Avengers
Nextwave
Runaways
Young Avengers
Civil war
Deadly gen
Ultimate Spiderman
Ultimate X-men
Ultimate Fantastic Four
Ultimate Ga Lak Tus
The ultimates
Walking dead
Fables
Y: the last man

Ive also read all the sin city and preacher stuff...oh ive read V and 300 and the best book ever made...Watchmen

Well, obiviously going by username, I've been a long time Batfan. I also like Superman, Spider-Man, JLA, and Teen Titans

id love to start collecting teen titans but DC seems to be a bit messey at the mo.

Very bold of you man, hope you enjoy. Omnibuses are a bit unwieldy though, very large, so it might not be something you want to take to work. If you enjoy that, you NEED to check out his Daredevil run, it was beautiuful

aww, it's not that hard, I could point you to some great jumping on points and answer any background questions you might if if you want. But it's not like you knew the X-Men's entire 40 year history when you started reading either, no did you?

When I was younger I would read anything affiliated with the Xmen. Now the only 'X' comics I read are X-factor and Astonishing. Speaking of X-factor I kinda wish Havok was brought on board. He has been written like s*** ever since the Mutant X title was cancelled.

Sad but true. Thank You Chuck Austen:mad:

What I'm currently following...

Astonishing X-Men
Uncanny X-Men
X-Men
Ultimate X-Men
Cable & Deadpool
New Excaliber
Deadly Genesis
X-Men the End

New Avengers
Ms. Marvel
Ultimate Extinction
Civil War
Annihilation

Outside the X-Men?

New Avengers
Thunderbolts
Fantastic Four
Ms Marvel
and for now ... sigh... Black Panther (the minute she's off I stop buying that book)

If we count limiteds then I must add Civil War, and the upcoming Civil War: X-Men. I might buy Front Line if there is a tp eventually.

Outside of Marvel? Nothing :D

Of the X-Men I buy all X-Team books. And most limiteds of course.

Well, I always keep a trade paperback or two to read in my car (currently, I keep my Runaways trade collection in there). I'm not planning to lug it into the building with me, so it shouldn't be too awkward.

I read trades at work all the time, but Id efinitely wouldn't want to bring something that big (I also try not to bring most of the more colorful superhero books. It's bad enough I read comics, I try to be seen reading things with some legitamacy rather than Superman or something like that)

Is this because you have a specific dislike of things non-marvel? a fierce loyalty to Marvel? Have you tried things from other companies? and I don't just mean Superman and Batman, but highly acclaimed books or anything?

My supervisor and I talk about comics (particularly X-Men) during work all the time. I know no shame when it comes to reading comics in public.

I have no one as tolerant or amused where I am
