Which directors would be your absolute dream picks for all the numerous sequels and spin-offs to come?

Let's imagine that after Deadpool and Logan Fox really brands the studio as a director driven machine that serves a lot creative control for smaller budgets.

My personal pick?

Denis Villeneuve. He is probably my favorite director working right now, and I think he would fit X-Men better than DC or Marvel. He could maybe do something on a smaller scale, a solo spin-off for someone like Storm or Cable.

I'm interested to hear your choices, especially for something more random, like that Alpha Flight film that was just mentioned by Kinberg.

I really thought Matt Reeves would get to direct one, given the Planet of the Apes movies were set up at FOX.

If only Fox talked to him to direct X-Men.

I'd like to see Alfonso Cauron and Kenneth Branagh.

Pedro Almodovar absolute pipe dream, Ben Wheatley more realistic unrealistic idea.

Guillermo Del Toro
Matthew Vaughn
Duncan Jones

Directors that can blend action, story, fantasy, & sci-fi all into one

Joss whedon

He has written great story arcs for the xmen and gets the whole team dynamic, which I think is something that lacks in the xmen universe

Tim miller

Just look at deadpool he clearly understands the comics and respects the material

Dream directors?

X-Men Supernova: Jim Cameron, JJ Abrams

Gambit: Steven Soderberg, Rian Johnson, Nicholas Winding Refn

In terms of directors I think they could actually get,

X-Men Supernova: Justin Lin, Jordan Voigt Roberts (Kings of Summer, Kong Skull Island), or Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane)

Gambit: Chad Stahelski (John Wick), and if they ever make a Gambit v Deadpool: V is for Versus movie, we can have a John Wick director reunion. Maybe I should move this to the dream category...

Rian Johnson, Kathryn Bigelow, Edgar Wright, Tim Miller, Alfonso Cauron or Joss Whedon.

In terms of realistic choices for the flagships:

Matthew Vaughn, Christopher McQuarrie, Joss Whedon...

and while Matt Reeves was the dream pick, he's doing Batman right now, so the new dream is now Dan Trachtenberg.

I'd like to see Karyn Kusama tackle a spinoff film though (or handle Psylocke or something). Get another swing at the action/sci-fi genre with the creative freedom that she deserves. Same with Jennifer Kent, Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Fede Alvarez. I think all would flourish in a smaller capacity where they can run amuck with superheroes.

Ryan Fleck & Anna Boden

Yeah, I doubt it would happen, but after Gravity, I would love to see Cuaron do an X-Men in space film. Combine that with a great screenplay and a Dark Phoenix film would be amazing not just in story, but in scope as well.

Joss Whedon - he definitely would develop the female characters who've been shafted until now

Alfonso Cuaron - because of Gravity and perhaps because of Children of Men (even though i prefer the Children of Men book, to be honest)

Tim Miller - he should at least be involved with costuming and VFX. They would be beyond stupid to push him away from the X-franchise. He delivered the biggest box office yet for an X-Men movie, so keep him around!!!!

No way on Bong Joon-ho, Garland or Martin McDonagh (Pillowman does sound like an X-Men, though).

Michael Dougherty is good.

I guess I doesn't make sense anymore but Cuaron is too good for superheroes.

"Dream" director thread. Go nuts, go crazy.

Wes Ball is a great option, imo. I've been listening to a lot of Barry Jenkins interviews and he just goes off on how Wes Ball was like a great filmmaker from the start of their days in film school together. So the potential seems there for sure to do great things with the X-Men.

whoever made game of thrones so great. i am a very obsessed new fan of theirs.

Deadpool's director
Edge of Tomorrow's director
Birdman's director
The Arrival's director
T2's director
Ex Machina's director

Justin Lin i think would be a great choice and he has shown 2 times he can jump into an existing franchise of an ensemble cast and deliver with fast 5 and star trek beyond

I don't know. I feel like Justin Lin would not work that well with a writer like Kinberg. Like he's not someone that I think could save a terrible script.

I saw Alien Covenant, last night. I thought the characters were kinda dumb like Prometheus. But I liked his directing style and his visuals are quite elegant. He also directed the Martian so that's a big plus. So if X-Men Go to space, he would be one of my choices.:sly:
