The premiere was at a university. I have to imagine it's part of the university's garb for formal events.

Happens all the time with movies - sometimes years!! Hugh's movie The Fountain comes out in the US on Oct. 13 - but it doesn't come out in the UK until March 2007! The darn thing will be out on DVD by then (and possibly be nominated for some Oscars and perhaps win some by then!).
