The Japanese premiere is September 18. Found this contest to attend - it says the red carpet premiere is September 3 at 6:00 at the Roppongi Hills Arena in Tokyo. I wonder if any cast - or even Hugh - will attend. Hugh is in rehearsals right now with Daniel Craig for their Broadway play, which opens with previews on September 10.

The prize recipient, together with his/her selected guest, will join the producers and crew of FOX TV and ACTV at the Tokyo Red Carpet Premiere of “X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE" on September 3, 2009, at 6 p.m. at the Roppongi Hills Arena,Tokyo.

I doubt Hugh will be there, since the show starts previews on the 10th. I'd hate to see him break his perfect attendance track record on Broadway. :cwink:

I doubt it too, but my thinking was that perhaps Hugh and Daniel can have a few days off that week so he can go (Sept. 3 is a Thursday) and then do intense rehearsals when he gets back leading up to previews the next week.

I think it's quite possible, even likely, that he'll attend the red carpte event. Why else would they hold it so far in advance of the actual release date? Japan is a big market for the film, especially as they've already announced that the sequel will be set in Japan.

The release date was known long before they started rehearsals so the promotional activities could have been built into the schedule for the play. A two-man play has to be easier to put together than a musical involving a cast of 30+ and an orchestra. (I'm talking about the technical aspects like having the right people in the right place doing the right things).

Good point. I hadn't noticed the difference in the dates when I read it the first time. They probably did work it in so Hugh will still be able to attend. It's still a week before previews start on the play (which, btw, I'm seeing 5 weeks from tomorrow :cwink: ).

As I recall, he was able to go to the LA premiere for Van Helsing when he was doing The Boy From Oz in NY and he didn't miss a show.

He must have enough frequent flyer miles to orbit Saturn by now.... :oldrazz:

Hugh is in Japan.

His promotional tour has been: Australia, South Korea, Russia, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, USA, Brazil, Mexico and now Japan. That's the 12 largest markets for X-Men films. I'm still impressed by the worldwide promotion for this movie. I bet it cost a small fraction of that spent on the X3 launch at Cannes.

Impressive indeed!

Hugh is obviously very busy with rehearsals but Japan is too lucrative a market to pass up on a promotional tour.So it doesn't surprise me that he's there right now.
Hugh appeared on a Japanese game show:

Man, their game shows are crazy.:p

I suspect rehearsals for his Broadway play with Daniel Craig, A Steady Rain, are basically over since the previews start next week, Sept. 10. I suspect once he gets back to NY there will be final rehearsals at the theater - I don't believe they have actually rehearsed at the theater yet. I'm sure this week off was worked into the rehearsal schedule.

Those game shows are so weird...

I walked by the theater last week on my way home from work and they were just loading in the set and stuff, so I'm guessing they haven't started there yet.

Here's the theater though:

I'll add the first publicity photo:

And the playbill:

So excited to see it! :woot:

That looked like fun! Can't wait to get my blu-ray... :yay:

W T.....?! :D

Oh those wacky Japanese game shows! He was on the same show when he was promoting Australia and let's just say he was grabbed somewhere he didn't expect....

Can't imagine any other actor being such a good sport on something like this to promote a movie!

Really?:ninja:

Even if he's as nice as people say he is (and he seems to be) i'm surprised he's game to do all those awkward and at times embarrasing looking things in front of an audience. But then again he did give various people a lapdance during Boy From Oz.:o

And he gave lapdance lessons to a member of the audience one of the times I saw the show.

I think it's funny that it's the guys on that Japanese show how can't keep their hands off him. The women seem to have it under control. :wow:

:funny: Those Japs are keeerrrraaaazzzy!! Anyone ever watched Takeshi's Castle?

As crazy as the Japanese shows were...that show in Korea he did with Daniel Henney was even crazier! :wow:

The Korean show was rather sweet and respectful compared to this.

Ahhh... the lapdance.... at the last show it was Barbara Walters and Matt Damon - at the same time!

Hugh is usually game for anything - here's the Australia game show appearance - the "unexpected" part is on the second video starting at about 3:20, although there's some interesting things in the first part too. This is the same show so I guess he knows what to expect!

The videos have been removed for some reason.

I'm a bit late in posting a response (sorry) but yes i do recall the Damon/Walters dance thing.:woot:

Really? That must have been..uhm...interesting to see live.

Here's something that happened at the premiere but not as crazy as the gameshows or lapdance.Actor Ryuta Sato asked Jackman if he would cast him in the Wolverine sequel in a rather unique way.:woot:
