Seeing as how X-Men 3 ran the series into the ground and First Class (although a great movie) is not cannon with the other movies, I think their should be an X-Men reboot. Maybe not now, but maybe in 2013 or 2014. I think a reboot would allow them to incorporate more of the sci-fi elements of the comic. A reboot would also give them a chance to redo characters that got screwed up in the films (i.e. make Storm african, make Rogue southern and not a whiny runt). I think a reboot trilogy would allow them to explore new villains like Mr. Sinister and Apocalypse and while making an X-4 would allow this too, do we really want to see an X-Men movie with a dead Cyclops and Jean, a powerless Rogue, Magneto & Mystique, and a body-swapped Xavier?? And no I don't want some lame way of restoring them in a sequel.
I think a reboot would be a clean slate and a new interpretation of the series like Nolan's films are a different interpretation of Batman. A reboot could be darker, more sci fi based and plus there are just so many plot lines from the comics that should be explored on the big screen:
Genosha, Project Wideawake, Days of Future Past, etc.
