I have been having a debate with a buddy of mine wheather it was in Magneto's comic character to sacrafice mutants , sort of like he does in the final battle in x3. I'm fairly positive it is in his character, to sacrafice them for the greater good. I am fairly positive he has sacraficed others in the comics too....but he swears they haven't. Can anyone help us settle this?

perhaps but no so willingly...

he didn't seem to have remorse for anyone throughout the whole trilogy...

the mutants he cared so much about wer the ones he was willing to sacrifice so easily...

jean should have been scarlett with and quill quicksilver, it would have been nice for him to show some compassion for them throughout the film. the people mystique found should have been his respective sibling.

I think he showed remorse over mystique....I really think he regretted it. And he DEFINITLY showed remorse over Charles' fate. But the thing is, to him it's war, and war comes with bloodshed and loss.

I am POSITIVE he has sacraficed some others in comics. can anyone tell me if its so, or if my mind is just playing tricks on itself?

Few comic characters are written consistently, and Magneto's a major offender. He actually took Xavier's place and led the mansion at one point, which hardly seems in line with a person who's also slaughtered hundreds carelessly.

Elijya you seem very knowledgeable about continuity....are there any issues where he has sacraficed mutants for his cause that you know of? Or am I wrong?

Can't think of any off the top of my head.

Ultimate Magneto seems much more ruthless

I am sure someone mentioned he tried to burn angel at the stake?

are you speaking of 1602 when Magneto was the Inquisitor and sacrificed all mutants who couldn't pass for humans? that's out of continuity

Yes. Callously writing someone off because they've had their mutation forcibly removed is actually my definition of remorse, in fact.

The writers have both said that Ultimate X-Men was a huge inspiration to them. When Mag's was giving his speech on tv all I could think of was Ultimate Magneto...

I don't think he was completely unaffected...he did seem to 'acknowledge' she saved him and did say what a shame it was. For Magneto, that's remorse. Or at least the movie magneto.

The thing about Mystique is that once she lost her powers she was no longer the same person to Magneto. When he met Pyro he asked what his "real name" was, and once Mystique lost her powers she was no longer Mystique, only Raven.

Um its in continuity its just not our magneto. It was our cap in it.

no, it wasn't. That Cap came from an alternate future

I think it's completely in character for Magneto to sacrifice mutants for his cause. He'd think of it as them dying for what they believe in, after all. And it's not as if he expected them all to be slaughtered by the Cure within the first fifteen seconds.

And look what he did to Rogue in the first movie.

Ahhh brief research has revealed you are indeed correct.

Apparently gaiman wanted to make it 616 cap but part way through the series wasn't allowed to.

Oh well i was wrong.

But i'd have gotten away with it if it wasn't for you pesky kids.
