X3's competition getting slammed by critics!

i have nothing against Ron Howard but something seems off about hiring him to handle something like DVC

Whoa I didn't Expect DVC to be slaughtered by critics like this. I have a feeling X3 won't do much better, judging from critical previews...

The book was entertaining, the cast is good, and I’ve liked Howard’s other movies.
I figured it would be good.

Howard is good at doing movies that either make you laugh or have some kind of schmaltzy human interest motif. DVC has neither.

take a couple of Art History and religious studies courses before you claim him to have done his research.

i think he did a great marketing campaign to get some money. it's genius, a complete and utter lie, but genius.

Brown claims (partly in the book and in various interviews) to have conducted extensive research in many different forms. That doesn't mean that he can't put inaccurate information into his book and present his work of fiction in any way that he chooses. I've only just started reading the book and I've not personally completed any of the courses so I'm not going to be in a position to give a knowledgable verdict on whether he has done his research beyond accepting the claims that he makes. :)

btw this interview is quite interesting:

i can claim that i have researched how celluar motosis works.
doesn't make it true.

And I'm sure he did research, although it was probably second hand research. He took theories and ideas from various books and integrated them into an adventure/mystery/thriller (I don't know what to call it). I doubt he’s lying; he was probably just a bad researcher.

one of the only movies of Howard's that I liked was Beautiful Mind...but, after the Missing...I'm not sure I even want to see DVC...no, I take that back I have to see it cuz my gf wants to.

technically taking second hand research and calling it fact is a lie.
i agree, he's just a bad researcher.

The big problem with the Da Vinci Code is that it's fiction and it's against established Christian religion.

Brown included some pieces of OTHER PEOPLE'S controversial research, but the rest is fiction.. so where does fiction end and fact begin.. It's an interesting story, but only a story even though it's been marketed as something else... It comes across as a mish-mash, a cop-out. He has borrowed several interesting, controversial pieces of information (BAD MOVE 1 - they aren't his original ideas) - but he can't prove them or develop them, so he wraps them in fiction (BAD MOVE 2 - he can't prove it so he covers it all in a made-up story). It's a very dishonest presentation of information.

Fierce right-wing family campaigners and Christian groups and supporters will be against it, hence the bad reviews in the right-wing press like the Daily Mail in the UK.

I'm not. I found the book boring. Too talkative. Seems like the movie reflects that. They should have done Angels & Demons first
Hell yeah! Bring on the anti-matter!

over the hedge will IMO might beat davinci in box office.. lol

hey.. never know!

on DVC's rottentomatoes page (at the time of this posting), you can see all the quotes from the rotten reviews...

...and then the one fresh rating with the NY POSTS's lou lumenick gushing about the film. HILARIOUS!

i can just imagine him in a sheepish voice, "what? you guys didnt like it?"

what was that post for?
face it, family movies are a BIG draw. look at Ice Age 2 for a prime example. that movie is STILL the highest grossing film so far this year.

I'm beginning to think that Over the Hedge will beat Da Vinci...so I agree as well. The buzz around that film is pretty good. IT will prolyl be a bigger threat to X3 than Da Vinci now. Howeve Da Vinci is still gonna make money.

Like Just My Luck did. :o

Yikes....The bad reviews are piling up for DVC... :( 15:1 positive... :O

I think plenty of people will still see the movie, regardless of the critics..

I don't know about these DVC reviews...anyway, I'm still looking forward to seeing it. X3 too, but I'd be surprised if it isn't panned by critics.
