X3's competition getting slammed by critics!

DVC now has 18% from a total of 21 reviews on RT!

EDIT: now it's rating is going up to 21% thanx to more postive reviews! I don't think we should consider it a flop just yet!

From Film Stew's review of The Da Vinci Code...
all eyes now are on Brett Ratner’s good buzz Memorial Day offering X-Men: The Last Stand.

Should a third generation of a comic book upend The (Second) Greatest Story Every Told at the Multiplex, it will make for a surprise as sacrilegious in its own way as those contained in Dan Brown’s endlessly debated page-turner.

Note the "good buzz". X3 has already been seen by critics so they aren't just going on hype.

The Da Vinci Code was kept close. The only test screenings were to friends and family of people involved in the project. It was only shown to theatre owners a week ago (a legal requirement acccording to Newsweek). So its buzz was based on the book, the cast and the hype not on the actual movie.

Look at the postive reviews and where they come from.

Yeah I think im going to end up seeing DVC despite the reviews.

Considering the team in place, I never would've thought The Da Vinci Code would get slammed like this. I mean, it's getting torn apart by almost every major critic. This was unthinkable months ago. While it still will be big at the box office this weekend, the legs on this film could plummet.

The Last Stand has a chance to be the first savior of the summer. It has that chance now with the way The Da Vinci Code is being recieved.

And it still upsets me because of some of the decisions Fox made about certain aspects in the film. Fox could come out of this thing look really good if The Last Stand gets good reviews.

This is a situation I thought I'd never see....

The BBC have reviewed The Da Vinci Code. They gave it 2 stars out of 5.
Here's the review:

Stop me if you've heard this one before: when a curator at the Louvre is murdered, it's up to grumpy professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) and perky cryptologist Sophie Neveau (Audrey Tautou) to solve the mystery. Following a byzantine trail of clues, they gradually uncover a massive religious conspiracy. Yes, it's The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown's hungry monster of a bestseller, adapted for the silver screen complete with albino monks and cranky French detectives. And frankly, it's a stinker.</B>
It is a truism that good books make bad films, and vice versa. By that reckoning, Da Vinci ought to be an excellent film, since the prose is awful and the plot is tremendous. But something has gone badly wrong. For all the prestige production values and A-list stars, The Da Vinci Code is practically catatonic. It just lies there on the screen like a $100 million mattress. The script is bad. The acting is bad. Tautou is very, very bad, and clearly uncomfortable. Hanks looks and performs like a lump of dough in a wig.
"THE WHOLE THING GOES ON FOR HOURS AND HOURS"
The plotting, which seemed endearingly silly on the page, is snortingly preposterous on screen: our heroes tumble po-faced from peril to peril with insane regularity. At one point, they get saved by a pigeon. Director Ron Howard relentlessly patronises his audience with CGI flashbacks to The World Of Ancient History, and the whole thing goes on for hours and hours. An extra star is earned by Paul Bettany and Ian McKellen (as the nutty monk and the wealthy fruitcake respectively), who somehow manage to keep the film from lurching completely to a halt.

18% from 36 reviews

Looks like it's too late for a recovery.

Way too late.

I can't believe the negative buzz is so strong. At 50% I don't think it would have affected box office too much. At these levels it means the majority of people who read/watch/listen to reviews will be turned off. The DVC BO needs to be revised downwards although I don't know whether this will have any positive impact on X3.

I think the "ripping" on the davince code is a trend right now, they just want to be negative about a popular story........

The heavily expository dialogue aside, "Last Stand" is "Fantastic Four" done right, taking the super-powers seriously and making the Marvel Comics panels come to life. This is where the avalanche of seamless special effects really works, making the battles possible and indulging in requisite homage to the source material. More ambitious, though not as sophisticated as "X2," "X-Men: The Last Stand" is an unexpectedly muscular curtain call for the movie franchise that made superheroes super on screen again.

Could it be that the movie just really sucks? I kind of figured it would be hard to translate that book without being boring and I guess they needed another director at the helm.

I do suspect that a number of reviewers go with the flow and let their views be dictated by the cream. With these sort of figures though, there must be some serious problems with the film.

Name one truely awful Ron Howard film, I just severly doubt that him, plus Tom Hanks would create a truely awful film, it just feels from my standpoint, that people are tearing at this film because it's a "popular" book, the critcs are just trying to seperate themselves and go against the flow by saying "this movie is bad" but you know what, i read like 5 reviews of the film, and the critics start bashing on the book, saying it was a stupid book for stupid people, so I got a feeling they have a different agenda in going against the movie.. I also think they were half way expecting some type of "shocker" movie, where they would question christianity, and I think that they aren't bying into the hole "holly grail is Marry M.", so they feel they need to bash the movie becuase they think people are going to see it for "answers" when infact, it's just a murder mystery.....

21% is really bad but I dont concider it a flop until I see how much it will make this weekend...

PLUS we are talking about critics, if x3 comes out and it gets these types of reviews, all you fan boys will be saying that these critics don't know what they are talking about
