X3's competition getting slammed by critics!

Poseidon was a 1.5 hour long action sequence that bombed at the box office and caused a "movie fund" to lose everything that had financed 50% of the film. Da Vinci Code is getting lousy reviews by almost everyone...http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/da_vinci_code , and while MI:3 is an awesome film (best of the franchise) it won't have strong enough legs by May 26th to cause any damage. DaVinci is in a totally separate GENRE from X3 that won't appeal to the repeat viewing maniacs that go to see X3. I expect X3 to have mixed reviews with 50% ratings at Rotten Tomatoes but the competition isn't doing any better.

I still say 85 million Fri-Sun, 100 million Fri-Mon.

Wow, I'm really surprised at the reviews for DVC. Hopefully X3 won't follow suit.

And Advanced, 50% for an X-Men film would be terrible--there is no way one could put a positive spin on that, considering the film's 80%-plus predecessors. I don't expect X3 to surpass X1 or X2 critically, but I hope it is nowhere near those depths.

^ And the 5th review isn't so fresh if you read it. Hey Storm, now way in hell X3 has 70-80% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes when all the critics are in. I'd say 50% would be good for this type of film. It's really more of a chapter than a stand alone film. You must see the first 2 films to really enjoy this. Everyone's complaining how it's too short, or not enough character development, etc...

****, just tack this 1 hr 45 minutes onto the end of X2. It's the last stand and they're making a film that we all wanted to see. Just going all out on the action. It's the final chapter of this story arc. Not sure if you guys are getting me on this but if you rate it as just a stand alone film it might not do so well. Rate it as the next chapter as part of a bigger story...and it should. This should be reviewed as a summer event film for fun and nothing much more.

Nope, I stand by my estimate. I certainly don't expect anything lower than 60%!

We'll see but I expect 50%. Which would be mixed reviews. Alot of critics don't like these kind of films to begin with. They're not looking for Academy consideration anyways. There's also quite a bit of Ratner haters out there who would never retract (cough Harry cough) their past statements because their pride is too much to swallow. Anything over 60% for this film will be good. But from a fans perspective who gives a crap. As long as we enjoy it. It's never going to be the best possible X3 films from everyone's point of view. Let's just hope we enjoy it and it makes enough at the box office to bring us some more stories.

Yeah, I heard this morning on the news the reviewers at Cannes really raked DaVinci Code over the coals. But let's face it, people could still flock to the movie, as the book is still fairly popular. Some people may see it out of pure speculation. Passion of the Christ was hardly a critical darling, ultimately snubbed at the Oscars, and still made somewhere around 300 million domestically. And there's been a helluva lot more promotion for DaVinci Code than X3, as far as I can see. Not to say X3 won't have a big opening, but I think the reviews for DVC will have to be not only quality, but the qauntity of the reviews as well. Have any major publications come out with reviews yet? Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Time?

What's funny is Ron Howards last film, Cinderella Man, had awesome reviews and was a great film. It was the biggest flop last year. Didn't Ron also make Alamo? If DaVinci makes less than 50 million...yikes.

Theres lots of praise for Mckellen's performance though just like in X-Men TLS (not surprising).

Thank heavens for Ian McKellen, whose Sir Leigh Teabing enters the plot halfway through. Injecting the film with its only humour as the wry conspiracy theorist with whom the fugitives seek refuge, McKellen gleefully hams it up as he describes in pompous educational detail the "true" secret of the Grail - the facts that Jesus Christ was married to Mary Magdalene, that they had a child and that a royal bloodline exists to this day.

McKellen brings a much-needed vigour to the film, seriously flagging at this point, which lasts through the subsequent sequences in London. The spark has been extinguished, however, by the time the film gets to Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland where the final revelations are revealed with unintentionally comic gravity.
