X3's competition getting slammed by critics!

you must be joking.
M:I3 performed WAY below expectations at the BO. backlash to Tom Cruise being an ass and having that infamous meltdown.

Ice Age 2 is the biggest thus far
yeah, forgot about that movie. LOL. and MI3 failed, which made me sad. looks like Tom Cruise is losing his appeal.

Did it cover his expense?

I feel sorry for him :(

it made enough for Tom Cruise to get his paycheck...and not much else opening day.

it's performing below expectations. it might make it's money back through worldwide BO, but i doubt it.

^dude, i love that quote. I watched pulp fiction like an hour before that review came out.

MI:3 was a great film and it didn't exactly fail. I just underperformed expectations. It held up for 2 weeks at #1 and it's doing awesome overseas. Needs to make 300 million worldwide to break even and that shouldn't be a problem. DVD sales will be big and that's pure profit, and the TV rights aren't free.

V for vendetta did pretty well too. earned half of it's budget opening weekend, and has earned more than it's budget so far. and for me, it's this years Sin City.

i keep forgetting about DVD!
damn it. why do i not factor those into gross?

*makes mental note*

:)

but, the highest grossing movie this year has still be an animated film.
Over the Hedge will be #1. it's almost summer and the kids aren't getting homework, so they can start going to the movies a lot nowadays. family films are released in summer for a reason!! also around x-mas season for a reason.

yep. but my guess is the biggest movie this Summer will be POTC2, not a superhero movie.

oh no doubt.
people loves them some pirates. especially Johnny Depp.

teenage girls, and their moms, will be FLOCKING to the theater for that one.
lord knows my mom, sister, and i already have plans to see it.

Never happen. Over the Hedge won't touch Pirates 2, X3, or Superman. Neither will Cars. Hedge doesn't have the freshness to it like Shrek or the character. Besides we've seen 3 or 4 animated CGI films this year already. X3 is gonna be a relief.

Yeah, all this talk of SR - $800 million, DVC - $700 million is pure BS. POTC2 will be no1 this year

you missed my point.
Ice Age 2 is, thus far, the highest grossing film.

i said Over the Hedge will open at #1, not that it would be the highest grossing. there's no chance for that to happen. i just explained why kids movies are performing so well this year, the year before that, and before that, and...

Superman Returns- 800 mil? is that worldwide, or in the US.
But i can see some truth in that actually. on some list that came out a few years ago, he was like #3 or 4 of the most recognizable icons in the world.
Superman will be huge, no matter how good or bad it is.
Star wars episode III wasn't the best movie of 2005, but it did amazing.

Over the Hedge will NOT be number one this weekend. Sorry but bad reviews will not, and never do keep the masses away from such a hype up film. Maybe if the film really is as bad as critics say it is, it will have a massive second week drop, but there is no way it won't get number 1 this weekend. And I am wondering if X3 will be a big hit. That too will have a massive opening weekend, but whether anybody likes it nor also awaits to be seen. That too might have a massive second week drop. I think Superman Returns and Pirattes of the Carribean sequel will be the big winners of the summer.

And someone was asking if Ron Howard ever directed a thriller? He directed Ransom with Mel Gibson. That was a thriller, and a damned good one. Only Ron Howard movie that I have seen that I didn't like was The Missing. All the rest i've liked. Whether the Da Vinci Code sucks or not, i'll judge fo rmyself. I loved the book, and i couldn't give a crap less what critics say about any movie. It won't stop me from seeing it. People who let critics be thier guide to movies need a good smack in the face anyway.

Yeah, but a lot of people will be looking at the reviews I think

a lot of people always look at reviews.
they're a good way to guage what to expect in a film.

whether you agree or not depends on personal choice.
