X3's competition getting slammed by critics!

Well I saw the DaVinci code and I thought it was very good. One thing that has bugged a lot of people is that the main actors were miscast but I really don't agree with that. I've never read the book and I'm not very religious so a lot of the things that were happening in the film caught me by surprise.
Overall, I really enjoyed the movie and I guess that's what really matters.

I saw Over The Hedge with my bro and parents. All of us enjoyed it. It was alot of fun. I think it will be the movie to beet this weekend. Da Vinci Code has been slaughtered by the critics in Toronto. The Toronto Star had 2 back to back bad reviews for it and the CBC has been airing its review on the radio and on TV and telling people to stay away from it. The only thing they had to say abotu DVC was its cinematography. Over The HEdge the box office this weekend.

over the hedge has been getting some real solid reviews. I usually trust the folks at avclub.com. They loved over the hedge and were mixed/negative on dvc. I can't wait to hear what they have to say about x3.

DaVinci expecations are 59-70 million range with most dropping their estimates closer to 60 after the reviews. The movie is floundering in France 50% off the last string of blockbusters from past years even with the higher ticket prices. Still it should do well opening week and then sink like a rock next week.

I saw DVC last night. I thought it was great, and it was definitely one the critics missed the mark on.

^ My friend just left to go see DaVinci. He said the bad reviews didn't bug him because Ron Howard never made a bad movie. LOL

Even if that were true (cough Grinch, cough cough Alamo) then it's clear he has now. The critics have generally enjoyed his films before but not so with DaVinci.

Yeah but he did do The Missing, EdTV, and Far and Away. That last one made me cringe

didn't mind the missing, and anything with a young liz hurley is good in my book, yummy........... never saw Far and Away..... what's that about?

like X2 more than less:

Rank Opening day:

9 X2: X-Men United $31,247,979

10 DA VINCI CODE $30,177,000

11 Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones $30,141,471

It appears DVC will be a success, like X2... but X3 will be a bigger one, hehe.

Wow that made a lot of money, despite all the terrible reviews. Lets hope X3 makes that much.

It deserves it. DVC was a fantastic movie in my opinion.

i saw DVC yesterday...and it was pretty dam good....though i have to confess without Ians excellent audience grabbing performance the movie would have been VERY dull.

but it was great!another reason you cant trust critics!

On todays Ebert and Roeper, Roeper said the same thing I did more or less... interesting.

Wow. In one day? This will be a big hit for sure. For XMTLS...I'm worried. Hopefully, it'll succeed in the box office.
That's not that great for such an anticipated movie, X2 made more money and while it was great it wasn't as advertised as DVC I don't think..

How much did Ice Age 2 make on its opening day?

Ice Age 2 made $21.7 million on it's first day ($68 million weekend)

Da Vinci is now expected to reach $85-$90 million opening weekend....
So it WILL be a threat to X3, as it is not likely to drop that much considering it is Memorial Day Weekend (may only drop 35-40%... so could still be makinf about $50 million next weekend...)
Not a threat to X3 going to #1... but a threat to how much money X3 can make... if DVC is still pulling in a mature crowd, some older people may rather see DVC over an FX driven summer movie..

I´m being surprised that moviegoers so far seem to respond much better to DVC than the bad reviews suggested... Dunno if it will have legs or not.

LOL at Joker. I seem to remember he was talking about some movie slump and about how movies don't make the money like they did before? Sure they do. It's just a matter of what the movies are.

DaVinci just had a 29.5 million dollar Friday with lousy reviews and the audience is nowhere's near as broad as X3, and DaVinci won't have nearly as many repeat viewers.

85 million for X3 Fri-Sun, 100 for the 4 day holiday weekend.
