Last week, Geoff Keighley wrote on Twitter that Microsoft will be hosting an event before GDC for undisclosed title; the news fell completely off the radar until now. Aaron Greenberg has confirmed the existence of the event, as well as it's content and the official date.

Great117, the same user that asked Geoff keighley about Forza 4, also asked Aaron Greenberg about the event and he replied:

"Yes we have a big core games event planned for Feb 24th"

There you have it, you can expect to get new details about Microsoft's offerings for the core gamers this week. With E3 being relatively close, don't expect them to show all their games, they know they have to wait for the biggest event, but let's hope it can hold you off until June

Small Update: The press conference hasn't been confirmed in a press release yet, so there's a chance that it might be an NDA event (Non Disclosure Agreement). This means that we might not be able to get any announcements until GDC. As soon as anything comes up, we'll keep you updated .

So, you think it´s true, or just Kinect "crap" that Greenberg is calling as core?

Not too long ago, it was revealed that Microsoft would be hosting their own special event prior to the GDC. Details regarding the conference itself was, well, not very revealing with the details being something along the lines of "making announcements"... Yeah. That, however, has just changed -- a bit.

In Major Nelson's latest podcast, which went live several hours ago, said event was lightly, no, very lightly, discussed. Major Nelson stated that:

"Next week I'm going to be down in San Francisco. We are having an invite-only press event that we're going to have some cool news that I'm not quite fully briefed on, but we have a lot of news that we're going to be announcing. Just telling you guys, you're going to be really happy when you hear all the news, that's all I can say."

If it´s more info on Gears 3, Forza 4 or Halo remake, they can go to hell.
Sure, those would be cool, but they really need new stuff, new Ips.
Make Perfect Dark one of them and i´ll be a happy man, make it a restart of the franchise and i´ll be ecstatic

I'd imagine it's 50/50 Core/Kinect.

Confirmed games so far:
New IP (Orcs Must Die?) from the Age of Empires/Halo Wars team
Final Fantasy Versus XIII coming to 360
Forza 4
Halo CE Remake
Gears of War 3 gameplay (maybe beta date given?)
Fable 3 Expansion pack
Halo Reach DLC

Probably going to see:
Spring Dashboard preview (Hulu+, Kinect enabled Netflix/dashboard, Netflix 5.1/subtitles)
Kinect SDK kit for XNA developers (due March; includes finger tracking)
Sesame Street for Kinect
Gunstringer for Kinect
Street Dates for Kinect XBLA titles
Full House Poker for XBLA (in 2 weeks)
Kinect Home
Kinect Gears of War Sports Game
Child of Eden (Kinect)
Steel Batallion (Kinect)

Wild/unlikely guesses
Shadow Complex 2
Halo Wars 2 (Kinect hybrid)
Skyrim DLC exclusive (E3 likely)
Rage DLC exclusive (E3 likely)
Alan Wake 2 (E3 if so)
Kingdoms (E3 likely - Crytek 360 exclusive)
Metal Gear Solid Rising (Kinect)
MK exclusive character?

More than likely you're going to have to wait for E3 for most stuff.

EDIT: Also, there's lots of new IPs, but it's for Kinect :)

Final Fantasy Versus XIII coming to 360 has not been confirmed, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

It was posted and taken offline. They're now claiming it was a misprint.

My guess is it was confirmed, then Sony pushed for the exclusive, so chance are we'll have to wait for E3 for the announcement if it's coming, or if Sony bought a temporary exclusive.

Anyways I'd imagine Beyond Good and Evil would also make an appearance (March 2).. maybe Torchlight (March 9).. Saints Row 3 (leaked from the next Game Informer magazine).. Full House Poker (March 16)

Which?

Confirmed list:
- Major Nelson
- NeoGAF
- Robot Entertainment teasing Feb 24 announcement + Trademark application + website url put up and subsequently taken down
- FF13Versus (V-Jump; said to be a misprint; generally this means it was planned as multiplat when it went to press and someone paid for exclusivity/delayed release)

Probably:
Based on previous previews and nearing release date / something to pad the list out since we don't know what's being announced

The all Final Fantasy Versus XIII coming to 360 is not unexpected, nor is the Gears of War 3 beta start date to be announced.
But i´m really sick of the same stuff coming from Microsoft: Halo, Fable, Gears and Forza.
Sure, there is the all Orcs must die, and the Halo remake will be...interesting (also expected, this year is the 10th anniversary of Halo, so, something was going to happen, either Halo remake or Halo 4, the return of Master Chief and Cortana), but there should be more.
Yes, we have E3, but i don´t have much faith in Microsoft

I really doubt that Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be a temporary exclusive. Temporary exclusives tend to hurt the sales of the game more than helping them. And if porting Versus XIII on the 360 is going to delay the game the way that porting the original Final Fantasy XIII did, I highly doubt that Square-Enix will port the game because they just want this game done.

I also doubt that Microsoft will give them any special deals if the game takes up more than 2 disks which would also hurt this games chances on appearing the 360.

It doesn't matter. All those titles you mentioned will sell out the ass. They dont need many more new IP's at this point.

Altho Crytek is currently making a game for MS, maybe that game will be shown publicly?

A leak just showed some 3D logo.. it'll be interesting if they continue with Johnny Lee's Wii Remote stuff using Kinect to accomplish a 3D effect.

Wow...the event was way worst than i could have ever thought...

And then there was this guy

2011 will be "an incredible year" for hardcore gamers on Xbox 360.

That's according to the senior producer of Microsoft's interactive entertainment business, Kevin Unangst, who told CVG that this afternoon's Xbox 360 announcements are "just the beginning" of what 2011 has to offer.
Wow....really.....this is just the tip of the iceberg....you mean Microsoft has more than DLC, XBLA and CRYSIS 2.....wow

"Hardcore gamers are where it started and absolutely, we've got Gears, great games like Homefront, Batman: Arkham City... if you like core games - and I'm a core gamer - this is going to be an incredible year," he said, adding that "what you're seeing here today is just the beginning."
Anyone that say they will have a great year because of games like Batman and Homefront, not only is pathetic, it´s a pure sign of desperation.
To say they will have a great year because of games like Resistance 3 and Uncharted 3....sure, to say they will have a great year because of games like Legend of Zelda or Dragon Quest X (it was announced to be exclusive for the Wii)...sure, to say you have a great year because of games that THE OTHER GUY WILL HAVE TOO is a bit ridiculous.

Now, please, call me a troll or whatever, please.
I really want to say good things about Microsoft, i really do...i just can´t.
Sure, there is always the E3, but i´m 90% sure that it will be a disappointment all over again.
You know why?
Because Microsoft knows that, whatever they release, fanboys will eat it up.
So, at E3 we might have the Halo remake, and Forza 4 and, kingdoms and geek will have a geekgasm and say it´s the best thing they ever seen and they will sell tons and call it a day.

I give Microsoft one last chance, if they fail at E3 like i´m expecting, i´m done with them.

I gotta wonder what the hell is up with Microsoft. They used to give out awesome presentations, but ever since Kinect, it's just been one big WTF after one big WTF.

UC3, sure.

R3? No way.

Either way, again, this whole exclusive thing with fans is ridiculous.

You complain that there's endless sequels, but you use Resistance and Uncharted as good examples?

Besides, Homefront is a really good game, almost everyone who played the beta loved it.

You're not, but you keep setting yourself up for disappointment. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. Face it, the Xbox you want no longer caters to you, and it likely never will. Save yourself disappointment, give up, move on, whatever. Again, there's lots of exclusive Kinect IPs, but that's not what you want.

It's hard to argue otherwise. They're the only console with actual growth this year.

As far as E3 goes, go figure. Like this event, fans are going to whip themselves into a frenzy before it.

Whatever happened to patience and the wait-and-see attitude?

Really? Do you promise? Does this mean you're not going to post more doom and gloom threads? Somehow I don't expect that to happen.

/crosses fingers

True.

Personally, I think after the Cirque de Solei thing and how it was received, they decided to scale it back.

Regardless, this was supposed to be a private event with some announcements, so it's not exactly the same thing.

Hopefully the E3 presentation will be better this year, as everyone's stunk last year.

Its not so much what was announced because what was is pretty awesome and now we're getting hands on previews from many sites about Batman, Gears beta, and Gunstringer which I've been curious about all 3. The reason it just seems so disappointing is the fact that is was amped up a bit before hand so we were all expecting some great announcements instead of stuff we already kind of knew.

Actually I thought that Microsoft was the only poor showing at last year's E3. Nintendo did a damn good job last year with the 3DS and announcing new games for almost all of their IPs, and Sony, while not as impressive as Nintendo's did a good job with Kevin Butler, Gabe Newell, showing off their IPs, etc. They showed off 3D but they didn't focus too much on it. They gave a decent amount of time to the PlayStation Move even though the software really wasn't all that impressive.

Gah, really? That sucks man. I mean whats Microsoft going to do with out you? Are you still going to keep providing us with your excellent "analysis" on Microsoft though?
