Even In A Sewage Plant, YAIBA: Ninja Gaiden Z Looks Gorgeous. November 21, 2013 . 2:01pm

Frankly, this is probably the prettiest sewage plant you’re ever going to see in a videogame.

Tecmo Koei have revealed a new area and enemies that you’ll find in YAIBA: Ninja Gaiden Z—a sewage plant filled with zombies that use bile, electricity and fire as part of their attacks.

Yaiba counters these enemies by killing the Blister Sister and harvesting her toxic bagpipe, which allows him to spit bile himself. Other weapons he can use include a fail, which has the ability to combo into “cyborg rocket punches” and swordplay.

The screenshots below show the sewage plant off, and frankly, this is probably the prettiest sewage plant you’re ever going to see in a videogame. YAIBA: Ninja Gaiden Z will be released on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 4th, 2014 in North America.

This homage has a side-scrolling camera and 8-bit feel to it. When you progress through Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z’s story you’ll unlock Ninja Gaiden Z mode. Tecmo Koei notes that this has a really high level of difficulty designed to challenge players. Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z comes out on March 4, 2014 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC in North America. Europe gets the game a couple of days earlier on February 28.

Mighty No. 9 surpassed its own Kickstarter goals and is in development, but we don’t have to wait until 2015 to meet Comcept’s new robotic hero. Beck will be in Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z as a crossover costume. The Mighty No.9 collaboration also includes a special zombie pack.

Why is this happening? Comcept, Keiji Inafune’s company, is working on Mighty No. 9 and co-developing Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z with Team Ninja.

How YAIBA: Ninja Gaiden Z Was Conceived. January 21, 2014 . 4:27pm

YAIBA: Ninja Gaiden Z was born out of a variety of different things, the game’s developers reveal in a new developer diary.

YAIBA: Ninja Gaiden Z was born out of a variety of different things, the game’s developers reveal in a new developer diary. One of these was the idea of combining the idea of a ninja and a machine, which resulted in Yaiba himself being a cyborg.

The second was elements that Comcept’s Keiji Inafune—who is overseeing the game—wanted to include. These included things like mechs, zombies and ninjas.

The third, says the game’s producer, was the concept of what Americans and Japanese think makes a ninja “cool,” and trying to find a balance that could accommodate these differences in opinion. You can hear about all these elements in the video above.

YAIBA: Ninja Gaiden Z will be available on February 28th in Europe and March 4th in North America for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Yaiba Ninja Gaiden Z delayed, comic series from Dark Horse begins

Like a zombie slowly shuffling toward tasty, tasty brains, the release date for Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z has limped from March 4, 2014 to March 18. For those who can't wait to witness zombie murder at the hands of a ninja cyborg, however, Team Ninja and Dark Horse Comics have released the first of a three-part comic series that provides insight into the world and story of the upcoming game.

Written by Tim Seeley (Army of Darkness vs. Hack/Slash) and Josh Emmons (Ex Sanguine), the debut issue has main character Yaiba explaining how his sword came to be known as "Heartless." Just a wild guess here, but we're going to wager it has something to do with it being used to kill a lot of people. Maybe we're wrong, though! You can find out by downloading the first issue for free from the Dark Horse digital store or via the iOS or Android apps. The comic will also be available in physical format when the game releases. Tecmo Koei have shared a new developer diary for YAIBA: Ninja Gaiden Z, in which members of the development team discuss the game’s zombies and their humorous approach to creating them.

Keiji Inafune, who is supervising the game, shares that the idea was to have “stupid” zombies in the game, spread across multiple element types, such as fire, electric and more. This humorous approach, he says, is a a trademark of “Inafune’s zombies”.

YAIBA: Ninja Gaiden Z will be available on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in March.

Koei Tecmo trademarks Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z

Yaiba Kamikaze set to return?

Yaiba-Ninja-Gaiden-Z-TM_01-07-19.jpg

Koei Tecmo filed a new trademark for Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z in the United States on January 2.

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z is a zombie-themed spin-off of the Ninja Gaiden concepted by Comcept and developed by Spark Unlimited. It was released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC in March 2014.

It is worth noting that this new trademark is specifically for “Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z,” while the game’s previous trademarks, filed in August 2012, were for “Yaiba” (United States, Canada, Europe).

Going through the database of Koei Tecmo’s past trademarks in western territories, the company does not seem to file trademarks for anything that it does not plan to use at that point and time. The only exception seems to be a trademark for Eat! Fat! Fight! filed in December 2016 in the United States and January 2017 in Europe, which was never used. Eat! Fat! Fight! is a WiiWare title that released in 2009.
